A genteel old dame in the French Quarter. – The Scene
This is a warm and welcoming place in the heart of the French Quarter. Its atmosphere makes many visitors want to succumb to its languid mood and forget about tour schedules and sightseeing. An old, white Victorian house, it is guarded by one of the city's most famous bits of ironwork-an 1850 fence with stalks and ears of corn woven into the design.
There's an authentic genteel shabbiness about this hotel. It displays the kind of patina that modern interior designers work hard to replicate. The small rooms are nicely furnished with Victorian pieces and Oriental rugs. Fireplaces and stained-glass windows add extra charm. Despite the building's age, guests aren't expected to forgo modern conveniences. All accommodations have private baths, TVs and telephones.
cornstalk hotel – We enjoy our stays at the Cornstalk Hotel very much. The old style home adds to the effect of the way things used to be in old New Orleans. Do and will continue to stay at the Cornstalk Hotel as much as possible. We find the hotel personel very friendly and one is just around the corner from the fun on Bourbon street and the French Quarter. We have stayed at other local hotels in area and will not mention names, but they were disasters.
Forget about it – Highly over-priced. Not what it is cracked up to be. Tiny rooms and I never saw any breakfast. Don't waste your time and money.
We liked it! – My sister and I just returned from here and were very happy. It is a little pricey but if you like historical buildings that are close to everything, this is the place. Yes, it smells musty...what older building in N.O. doesn't?? Duh! All of the people working there fell all over themselves to call anyone or do anything we asked. The upstairs balcony overlooks Royal and the carriages go by every few minutes, their driver telling the history of the hotel. Everyone wants a picture by the fence. Had a great time and large room with 2 dbl beds. Comfortable air conditioning! Would stay there again!!
beware fire alarms! – when we checked in, after a 4 hour flight, we were not allowed to use a restroom, even though we were paying guests, and we were sent to the "Brews House" by the rude clerk--"you should see the bathrooms there!" Avoid at all costs the rooms on the ground floor--extremely noisy. The fire alarm went off one night at midnight and sounded for 30 mins...all in all, a terribly run place, tries to be cute and homey but comes off rude and cold. Expensive for what it is.
