We used to come to Madigan's regularly, but after our experience last Friday, we will seriously think twice about going back. The reason? The service. We were probably there for 2 hours and during that time were only served 2 rounds of drinks. The place was almost empty, so that wasn't the reason. We were sitting at the bar, so that wasn't the reason. The problem was that the bartendress was WAY more interested in flirting with the barflies to our right than doing her job. And then she would walk right by us with our empty pint glasses in front of us, talk to the regulars at the other end of the bar, walk by us again, never even looking in our direction. The last straw? We ordered some food, and after waiting for 35 minutes, we asked her about it, and she hadn't even put it in to the kitchen. Madigan's ain't anything special and there are PLENTY of other places in town that offer the same or better. Sorry, Madigan's, but you've lost at least two customers for good.
Excellent food, Exceptional Service – I went to Madigans for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. I had a Rib-eye that was out of this world. I was served by a young guy who talked to me like he knew me for years, and I never had to ask him for a drink once, I just had to tell him to stop serving me!!
Overall I had a great experience and would recommend it to anyone; visiting or local.
Great Music, Great service – The Music on Wendensday nights is great. The bartender was allot of fun and made sure my drink was never empty.
nightmare – The place reeks of cigarette smoke which makes it hard to breath. The bartender was some clown with curly hair that kept trying to get us to "go out back and smoke with him." The bartender who we couldnt seem to get rid of really made it uncomfortable. He though he was funny but wouldnt shut up and kept raving how he has the best job in the world. I think its pretty out of line for a bartender to as customers if they wanna go smoke out back, I dont care how shady the bar is. For a place that was suppose to be a good spot for locals to hang out I was displeased. I certainly will never go back and would advise others to stay away too.
On the streetcar line and the sibling of a popular adjoining restaurant, this Uptown spot almost has it all. – In Short
Madigan's diverse mix of ages and social groups is due as much to its short distance from Tulane as the lure of the adjacent G.B.'s Patio Bar & Grill. Rumpled professorial types mix easily with students and neighborhood regulars. Tiffany-style lamps hang over the vintage bar and posters commemorating the New Orleans Jazz fest cover many walls. Bar patrons can order food from G.B.'s--burgers, steaks and grilled seafood are served until midnight. Attractions are limited to one pool table and three video poker machines.
OK – Madigan's is not dingy like most college hangouts. It's a lot cleaner than most college bars. The crowd is mostly cliques. The drinks are reasonable priced and the music is good. It's not a place to dance, just to sit around and drink. Not too many beautiful people. You need a college backup to get in if you're 18.
Madigan's is by far my favorite bar in NOLA. The bartenders are friendly, and the people at the bar tend to be great-- yes, they're college students, but not the pain-in-the-ass stuffy ones-- we're kids looking to have a good time and relax. Definitely a neighborhood-bar type feel.
