Fantastic All Around! – The food was unbelievable! Service was phenomenal! A definite keep. We will be back. Great job everyone!
Horrible Dining Experience – We received a gift certificate for Gaucho's and thought it looked interesting. We looked at the website and discovered the Feast of Meats/Seafoods specials and also an a la carte menu. The website made it look like something we would enjoy. When we arrived, we were told we could wait in the bar area; very dimly lit, rotting cielings and weird music playing. Employees kept coming in and out of the kitchen with "glazed" looks on their faces...it seemed really bizarre. We waited well over the half-hour estimate for a table but were finally called. We were seated in the back of a dark, and frankly, ugly room. A waitress came for drink orders, and I asked for a menu..."No menus...this is an all you can eat dining experience. You must have either the meat feast or the seafood feast. You can add a lobster tail or prime rib." I explained I had looked at the online menu which included an a la carte meal...she said, "No, it's not like that here." So, my husband and daughter ordered the meat/seafood feast, and I ordered the meatfeast....that was all they served per the waitress. I was given seafood meal as well when I didn't order it. The servers hovered around us like sharks...you didn't have time to even taste one thing until they were literally interrupting you (even though we had our cards turned to "stop". I had to drink about 3 glasses of water just to get the dry, overcooked cheap cuts of meat down. The waitress kept trying to sell us a lobster tail...we repeatedly told them we didn't want it...then tried to make us order a roasted pineapple...we politely explained we did not want it. Very abrupt staff with difficult to understand accents (?) This was just a horrible experience...I have only not left a tip for my server twice in my life, and tonight was one of them. Ridiculously overpriced, dry meat, poor quality salad bar...just a horrible experience. We literally wanted to walk out without paying...we were robbed as far as I'm concerned...stay far, far away from Gaucho's!
Does not make good on their B-day Specials – I went there with 4 others and one was the birthday girl. The B-day girl placed her order for the seafood feast but was told by the server that she could not have that, so then she chose the feast of meats. Then the waitress told her that she had to pick the lesser of 2. Either the feast of meats or the 35 item buffet. She chose both and was told that she will have to pay for the feast of meats $25.95. Then the server asked if this was separate bills or just on one. We said one bill is fine, but then we realized that none of us had cash on hand just debit cards. So we told her we needed separate checks. Then she said she couldn't do it, because of the birthday girl. (Made no sense, first yes she could then no she couldn't). After we paid our bill and left I went home and looked on their website about the Birthday promotion and it stated that the Birthday person will have a free meal with choice of "The seafood feast " and the 35 item buffet or "The feast of meats" and the 35 item buffet as long as 2 people at the table were ordering the same priced meal or more. Well, 2 of us ordered the Surf and Turf at $49.95 a pop. That would automatically give that Birthday girl a free meal. So I called the owner to discuss this matter and "Sam" (owner) apologized and told me that his staff just did not understand the policy and told me that he would send me via email a free dinner on him. It's been 9 days and still have not received anything. I would have liked to have taken my family there but not anymore. This sounds like the old "Bait and Switch". Would not recommend this place.
The best kept secret in N.W.Indiana! – I was very happy with my experience at Gaucho's!
The 'all you can eat' salad bar was exceptional, as was the 'all you can eat' meats and the 'all you can eat' seafood my partner had!
The wait staff was above a 5 star!
I can't wait to go back to this wonderful restaurant!
Customer for Life! – I've been to Gaucho's before and I must say, it just keeps getting better every time I go back. I first went with my mom, because she loves seafood and they offer ALL YOU CAN EAT crab legs. We were seated in the lounge area (excellent atmosphere) and ended up staying for 3 hours because we were having such a great time. I went back again this week and took my sister and my daughter and yet again it was a fantastic experience. Not only was the food amazing, but one of the servers came up and started doing magic tricks. My daughter was beyond excited about this and has been asking to have dinner there every night since. They are such an incredibly family oriented establishment. Its a nice change of pace from McDonald's playland (which is the only other place she asks to go). I've noticed there have been a lot of bad reviews and I can only assume one thing: they must be a certain kind of SNOB to think bad of such an amazing restaurant. They certainly have made a lifetime customer out of me!
RUDE STAFF who DON'T HONOR their Promotions – Gauchos staff is RUDE, IMPATIENT, and UNFRIENDLY. The free birthday meal is a SCAM. We ate in May 2010 and the hostess stared us down without a greeting or a smile. It was horribly overcrowded but she managed to seat us. My chair got bumped into every time a server walked by. There are several staff walking around and each step they take shakes the floor and your chair. Our server acted impatient like it was an inconvenience to be waiting on us. Several of the meat carvers acted the same way, just plain RUDE, SHORT, and treated us like idiots. It was very bizarre! As for the food, nothing special on the salad bar and the meats all tasted the same. The meats were salty and either way undercooked or overcooked and dry. HERE’S THE BEST PART – they state on their website that you get a free Feast of Meats for you birthday. NOT TRUE. We only got $25 taken off our bill because apparently the Feast of Meats meal is $35 on Saturday, not $25 and so we had to make up the difference. THEY NEED TO STATE THIS ON THEIR WEBSITE. We are NOT hard to please diners by any means, and Gauchos managed to really turn us off. Tip to Gauchos, train your staff to be friendly and SMILE and maybe customers won’t get upset when you don’t honor your promotions. I have never written a review before, but I just had to warn you, it was THAT BAD. Spend your money at Pestos instead.
DO NOT EAT HERE!! – Owner of Gaucho's,
I was at your restraunt last night. I had won a gift certificate at the charity auction at the Porter County Fair. I had never been to you restraunt before yesterday. I checked your website first for your hours- it said you were open til 11. I walked in with my wife- who had got all dressed up- and we stood there for about 3 minutes. A young man who looked about 16 came and told us that you didnt seat anyone after 10. So we walked out, and I looked at my phone- It was 9:58. I ripped up my gift certificate- Its on your parking lot. If you dont want my business, I dont want to give it to you. We frequently go to Kelsey's- at least once a week. You lost your chance to convert me to Gaucho's. You lost a lot of money too. But worse yet, I plan on telling everyone! Maybe you should train your staff a little better on customer service, or at least on how to read a clock!
- Your lost customer
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY – We went to Gaucho's Brazilian Steakhouse for my birthday. I had wanted to go there for several years, but was waiting until we could afford to go. I was so thrilled when I bought my Entertainment book and there was a coupon in there for $35 off. My sister planned a surprise gathering for me at Gaucho's with my brother and my sisters. There was a total of 12 of us at the table.
My sister had called previously because we all had coupons from our Entertainment books-a total of 4-with 4 seperate checks at the table. She was told over the phone that we all could use our coupons. However, the waitress informed us that we could only use one coupon at the table-no matter how many seperate checks there were-and that kids usually ate free, but since someone at our table was using a coupon-we would be charged $14.95 per child-despite the fact that they were on seperate checks from the coupon. We had 3 children at the table.
My husband and I thought we would be spending about $60 for the evening, with the use of our coupon-that is-but we ended up spending $100-because we all decided to let our brother and his girlfriend use their coupon, since they just had a baby a month before.
On top of this "screw job", the meat server-with the dark skin and dark hair-looked to be about 17 or 18-was very mean. I had never been to a Brazilian Steakhouse before, so I did not know the proper etiquette when removing my meat from the skewer. He was cutting a rib off of the skewer and told me to "grab it" so, not thinking, I did, with my hand, and he literally yelled "WITH THE TONGS"-I felt like an idiot-then I apoligized and laughed with embarassment and he said nothing-did not smile or anything at all. When he returned later with another skewer with a different meat on it-I made a joke and told him not to worry-I would use my tongs-again, no facial expression whatsoever, no words were said by him. Needless to say-it ruined my special birthday celebration. My sister wrote a complaint-since she witnessed the entire ordeal-and got no answer in return.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PLACE! It was NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE-I STILL HAVE MY $35 COUPON, AND IT WILL GO DIRECTLY INTO THE GARBAGE CAN-THE ONLY MEAT THAT WAS GOOD WAS THE RIBS-MY FILET MIGNON WAS ALL FAT-the "brazilian mashed potatoes" were aweful-there really wasn't much variety on the salad bar either.
Take the money you were going to spend at Gaucho's and go to the House Of Kobe on Broadway in Merrillville-by Burlington Coat Factory-and have a GREAT MEAL-with courteous staff, delicious food-which is cheaper than Gaucho's too-be sure to try the Kobe Royal, and California Rolls-which is a sushi, but it is cooked-and THEY CARE ABOUT THEIR PATRONS.
