Owners John and Lori brought in a well known sushi chef who personally trained Lori to work this magic. The quality of the seafood is outstanding, it is without a doubt the best white tuna you can find in or out of the city. Its only close competition in Lake Country is Asiana, and unfortunately does not come close. It also happens to be right on Little Okauchee, which makes it a great place to sit out on the deck and watch the sunset. My wife and I just take our boat and pick up food to go half of the time. Rumor has it that Lori is training a new sushi chef to accomodate an addition that is currently under way. If you are a sushi lover, it would be a crime not to try this place. The spicy seaweed salad, white tuna, yellowtail, and salmon are some of the best. Try it and you'll love it.
Best Sushi in Milwaukee! AND a great view. ;).
I can't say better things about the food at this place. Phenomenal sushi. I've been to eight Japanese places around the metro Milwaukee area, and this is my first choice. I live near State Fair and drive out there just for this place.
Great presentation, FRESH seafood, WONDERFUL sauces, nice casual atmosphere, great drinks, and they even have a HUGE deck overlooking Okauchee Lake. If the weather is nice, you get a beautiful sunset to go with your food. Oh, and their Special rolls are HUGE. Easily twice the size of a regular roll.
The food rates 5/5 as far as I'm concerned. I've been going in there the past 18 months or so, and the food has always been mouth-watering. I'm mainly there for sushi, but I've had hibachi too. It was great. But, they don't have yakitori on the menu, which I missed. It's something neat to order and generally fast.
Go out on a weeknight, or bring someone along to talk to for a while over a few drinks. Sushi isn't the quickest, especially if they're backed up. Some of the Fri/Sat nights I've been there have had a longish wait just due to volume. I talked to the owners a while back, and their history is in the nightclub business. It's obvious they're figuring out the restaurant thing -- they've got the food down great, just not the scheduling. (Hibachi is WAY faster than Sushi.)
Service seems to be better lately, but still leaves something to be desired. Depending on who you get I'd give it something between 2.5 - 4, probably 3 - 4 the past six months, maybe even a 5 for one of the guy bartenders. The bartenders all seem to be great, so if you look like you're getting a high school girl for a waitress, latch on to a barstool and ask the bartender to take care of you. OR ask them for a beer and to seat you with a good waitress.
FYI - I saw a Clipper Magazine, and there's a coupon in there. Might be just in the Waukesha version.
Don't be afraid of a slight wait. The food is VERY worth it.
