Very pleasant experience: good food, ambience, and service – It's no longer the Twisted Grille; it's now simply Twisted. The original version was complimented in the September 2005 Gourmet magazine, but its offerings proved to be too innovative or rich (?) for the locals. The present owners have a less innovative menu, but based on what my wife and I had on a recent below zero Saturday night, the food is quite good. We'll certainly return.
The vintage brick building emanates an appealing non-corporate, non-franchise ambience. The restaurant consists of three narrow floors, the top one used for live music (later in the evening than when we were there). If lung cancer has no appeal to you, avoid the first floor.
We shared a truly decadent warm lobster spread on toast for a first course. A very nice change from the ubiquitous crab-artichoke-spinach variety. A suggestion to the owner, though: Provide crackers of some kind instead of the thick toasted bread, which, while good, is too filling for such a rich topping. My wife had a very nice Caesar salad, while I had the "Twisted House Salad". This had a very tasty soy dressing and oven-roasted Kalamata olives. China, meet Greece. The entree selection was sufficiently varied and just unconventional enough to be appealing. We decided on cow. My wife had what she termed a very good and tender ribeye, and I had an excellent beef brisket with roasted fingerling potatoes. I expected chunks of meat, but it was shaved - a nice presentation - in a wonderful smoky barbeque sauce with a bit of a bite. Really excellent. It'll be difficult to resist next time. The chocolate cake, almost like fudge, at the end was dense and chocolaty enough to satisfy the most unrepentant and unsalvageable chocoholic. (I refer to myself.) A dollop - what a strange word - of whipped cream on top would almost put it in the ethereal category.
The service was perfect, too. To the new owner (co-owner, manager?), with whom we briefly chatted: Utmerket mat. Tusen takk og vi ses igjen!
