I could not agree more with Lynne L. My experience with Tipsy cake is exactly as she described, " They seem to be in the business of bait-and-switch if you read these reviews: promise one thing, deliver something far lesser, then refuse to compensate the buyer." I asked for a blue cake with clouds, raindrops and flowers. I got a pink cake with hearts on it delivered 15 minutes before my party. When I complained to the owner that they did not make the cake I wanted she told me I was crazy and should have returned it if I didn't like it. How am I suppose to return a cake delivered 15 minutes before a party? Then after yelling at me on the phone for 10 minutes she hung up on me. When I called her back she told me to stop harassing her! I have never dealt with someone with such an utter lack of professionalism. I will also be filing a consumer fraud complaint.
This place has an F rating from the BBB for a reason.
They cannot follow directions, and the owner, Naomi Levine, becomes insanely combative when you complain ("You rich people and your cakes!...."). Their craft is atrocious. They seem to be in the business of bait-and-switch if you read these reviews: promise one thing, deliver something far lesser, then refuse to compensate the buyer. The icing on their sad cake is a heaping helping of totally unprofessional harrassment. Same story, over and over again. My claim has been sent to the Attorney General consumer fraud division - I urge you to do the same. This business should be shut down.
The cakes taste good and are very pretty; however, because of multiple mistakes and shockingly bad customer service, I won’t be going back.
We used Tipsy Cake for our wedding a year ago. We wanted to do carrot cake cupcakes with cream cheese frosting (my favorite especially the cream cheese part) and mini cheesecakes with fresh fruit on top (my husband’s favorite especially with fresh fruit on top). At our tasting, we were given what we were told was cream cheese frosting, but it tasted like buttercream. After some back and forth with the owner, she realized the mistake and brought us some very tasty cream cheese frosting. I wouldn’t even mention this in the review, but when our wedding day arrived and dessert was served, we realized that the carrot cake cupcakes were topped with buttercream! Not only that, but the mini cheesecakes were topped with canned topping instead of fresh fruit! This was upsetting and incredibly disappointing, but our wedding was still a blast, and we decided to forget about it.
Fast forward one year, and my husband decided to surprise me with a carrot cake from Tipsy Cake for our one year anniversary (we hadn’t saved any of the cupcakes from the wedding). When he ordered the cake, he spoke to the owner and made very clear that he wanted cream cheese frosting and not buttercream. She verified that she understood, and told him that the cake would have a rough finish as is typical with cream cheese frosting. When he arrived to pick up the cake, the owner showed the cake to him and told him that even though the cake had a smooth finish (unlike her description on the phone), the frosting was in fact cream cheese frosting as he had specifically requested. The cake was a wonderful surprise! He told me about the frosting, and I told him that it looked like buttercream, and took one taste, and it was buttercream! Unbelievable! My husband felt like he was looked in the eye and lied to. He called to express his frustration, and the owner offered to fix the cake, but when he tried to explain the history and why he was upset, she cut him off and said that she had already offered to fix the mistake. We took the cake back. The owner was at the front counter when we arrived, but promptly went into the back after finishing with another customer. She knew we were there, because the girl working the front came out with frosting that the owner wanted us to taste since it was being used to fix the cake. When the cake was ready, the sales girl brought it out and pleasantly told us to have a nice afternoon. We asked her if she understood the history here and expressed that we could not believe that the owner wasn’t handling this herself - at a minimum we deserved a sincere apology. It was even more unbelievable because we could see through a screen into the back and the owner was back there! There is no way she couldn’t hear us because admittedly I had raised my voice a bit because by this point, I was upset - how could she make the sales girl handle her upset customers on her own! The girl just kept shaking her head and saying “sorry,” so eventually we left.
I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, especially someone considering using Tipsy Cake for their wedding! While the cake may be tasty, mistakes seem to be common, and it was one of the worst and most frustrating customer service experiences we’ve ever been a part of.
Do not use for copying a cake from a picture – Do NOT use TipsyCake for copying another cake. I asked for a cake to be copied from pictures. The cake included silk and frosting butterflies all over it. The entire cake was supposed to have fondant icing. They charged me $460 plus tax and delivery to copy the cake. I liked the cake and the cake had many details, so I decided to splurge and order the cake. They did a terrible, unprofessional job. They didn't even put any silk butterflies nor did they use fondant for the willowy leaves on the cake (they used frosting globbed onto the side). They also did not get the proportion of the bottom cake to the top two tiers correct. It was very embarrassing to serve the delivered cake and at this price you would think that someone could have at least gone to the craft store to purchase the silk butterflies and get closer to the original cake. The only good news is that it tasted great.
Sadly, this bakery cant be trusted & customer service is bad – We used TipsyCake as our Cake supplier for our wedding. We visited their bakery for a tasting which was lovely. We greatly enjoyed their cake, especially the fillings that they offered. This bakery was well above our cake budget, but my mother decided to get us a custom cake as our wedding gift. We were so excited about the cake to come that we spent a year telling everyone we knew about it! Everything up until the event went smoothly. Once we got to the wedding and cut into our cake per the custom, we realized they had made our cake wrong. The filling was not what we ordered. Instead of their custom, toffee crunch filling, they had used the standard vanilla buttercream that they use to 'stick' the fondant to the sides. So our cake was very poor quality and most of our guests did not even finish their piece. In fact, most were shocked that we had spent so much time bragging about such a terrible cake. Once we returned from our honeymoon, we contacted the bakery. Even though we have photos that clearly show the filling was incorrect, the bakery owner essentially told us that we were wrong. She told us that her bakers remember using the right filling so it must be true. Only, it was not. I would never use this bakery again, which is such a shame. they are capable of a good product, but their follow-thru and customer service are terrrible.
Beware unless you are fine with spending top dollar for grocery store quality cake.
The Most Horrific Cake Ever – This was the worse tasting cake I have ever eaten. The custome service sucks and the owner is just plain rude and disrespectful. The cake tastes like dry non-sweet cornbread and not good cornbread. The 3 layer cake had no filling or icing between the layers to hold it together. This was definitely not worth the call, gas and especially not the money. The pictures on the website are deceiving, you will expect something good and receive the worse experience of your life. These cakes will definitely spoil any event and appetite. I cannot plead enough but please, please, please, please, please DO NOT patronize this bakery!!!!!!!!
Neighborhood Bakery Gone Crazy – In a city that prides itself on diverse neighborhoods this establisment has caused a riot. Feeding off it's original vibrant Humbolt Park 'hood' it's gone uptown and the owners vile comments about the 'hood' that made her money makes me want to...well...post here, there and everywhere. Do NOT frequent this establisment if you have any morals at all.
WORST PLACE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – WORST. EVER. O STARS
So, I had ordered a cake for my wife's birthday. It was supposed to be a life scale designer shoe, large enough to feed 20+ people. The shoe was supposed to be complete with detailing, down to the red sole. When the cake was delivered the morning of my wife's birthday, I was livid. This was not a lifescale shoe, no, instead TipsyCake had ripped me off of over $600 for a mini, tiny, 3 inch sloppy shoe that didn't look ANYTHING like the designer shoe I had sent a picture in. This little 3 inch shoe was atop a giant white square cake, that had sloppy writing on top "Happy Birthday". It was literally the saddest thing I had ever seen come from a cake shop. No detailing on the shoe, no pristine hand work. You could see lines where they had applied color to the little Barbie shoe. They put 0 effort and 0 work into my cake, completely ripped me off, and DID NOT EVEN DELIVER WHAT I HAD ORDERED. The owner was a complete unprofessional and did nothing to rectify the situation. In the end, I had to find a replacement cake before my wife saw this devastation.
Run Away Screaming!!!!!!!! – EVERY SINGLE NEGATIVE REVIEW (I.E. 1 STAR) this bakery has received is ABSOLUTELY TRUE! This woman is a lunatic! I am even more pissed that I did not read the reviews on this site before now. I had the same experiences that these people have had and it makes me sick to my stomach! The fact that she has ruined children
I purchased the living social deal without reading the reviews. BIG MISTAKE. I love all things cupcake and was super excited, as I have seen many special discounts regarding this bakery The special included a bakers dozen of cupcakes with the option b for specialty cupcakes. I called in for this, and was told that there is no "b" special, if I wanted the specialy cupcakes, (the include a design I guess, not a variety of flavors like most other bakeries) I would have to pay an upcharge of several dollars. I declined, and was told to call back with my order. I called in to place my order, and the owner answered the phone. She told me, no, she would not place my order, even thought I told her that the other girl insisted I have an order first before picking them up. At this point, I told her that I needed them for a party, and she said to pick them up at the store. I asked her if she was sure that they would have enough that day, and that I would really prefer to order them. She insisted that she would NOT take my order, yelled that she was busy and had to go, and hung up on me. I am appalled! Who does this? I then read the reviews, and am shocked by this commonality. How can someone provide such horrid service??? It seems though from reading these she has some orders from naive people who have not done their research, and she appears to be a scammer. I have called the website where she advertised, and they told me that they have had very many complaints about this place. I am worried about picking up my cupcakes, but will update as to how this goes. Another thing, I was interested in a pie she had on her site, and wanted to order that, however, no I will not as her rudeness has made me want to never order anything from her again. What should have been a fun cupcake experience is certainly not that this time.
Warning to everyone.
