Po-boy King – We found Johnny's the first time we went to NOLA. Since then, we have made it a priority eating place during our visits. One thing we found out was not to go to late because the bread is baked every day. One time we waited until the last day to go there, and the bread was gone. Also, there is a place to sit in the back.
Make sure you try breakfast! – We stopped in on a Sunday morning about 9 a.m. No crowd, no wait, just low prices and terrific eggs and hasbrowns (yum!). Good coffee, laid-back deli-style atmoshpere (you have to ask for it if you want it), and great prices. It was our last morning in town, and the wallet wasn't quite as heavy as when we first got there, if you know what I mean. Can cure a hang-over if that's what you need.
Best po' boys & breakfast in town – Johnny's is the one place that I make sure to eat at when I visit NOLA. The po' boys are the best. Get there before the lunch crowd or you'll be waiting for a seat.
Gumbo – Don't miss Johnny's. They will make a po-boy out of just about anything you could want. The shrimp is my fav, over flowing with shrimp, the gumbo is best I have ever had and the crab cakes are wonderful. The shrimp creole is lusious. We LOVE this place.
Po'boy for a lucky boy – We passed up breakfast at Cafe Beignet for a po'boy "brunch" at Johnny's. One of our smartest decisions made on a recent trip to New Orleans. Johnny's has a daunting selection of po'boys to choose from. We gaped at the wall mounted menu for some time before throwing up our hands and taking a stab at two sandwiches we hoped would reflect a lunch in the Crescent City. We decided to let caution flee and ordered a fried oyster and a boudin sausage po'boy--dressed. Both po'boys were ample in size, served on a terrific french loaf. The oysters were fresh, and tasted of the sea, despite being deep fried. The boudin sausage(pronounced "boo-dan--I was cheerfully informed)was the richest, sweetest, most complex flavored sausage either of us had ever tasted. A memorable brunch stop, and one we will make again when in The City.
Mmm Mmm Good – True while there isn't much atmosphere what's important here is the food. The Po-Boys were great, try the shrimp one...mmm good. They also have breakfast available. 2 eggs, grits, bacon/sausage and a biscuit for $4.95, at least in March 2004! How could you go wrong? The service was friendly and if you avoid the peak lunch hours it's fast. I was there 4 times the 5 days I was in town. It's just that good.
A must for lunch! – Anyone that pans this place is a fool! It is a typical deli so don't expect atmosphere. If you go, go for lunch and a late lunch after 2:00 p.m. Try the Austrialian Roast Beef Po-Boys. They melt in your mouth. Still my favorite place for a Po-Boy. It is extremely crowded any other time so be prepared to wait. It is a sandwhich shop but the food is awesome. A great place to take a break and rest for a bit. You'll eat only half and take the other half home.
Just about any kind you want! – If you want a variety of po' boys this is the place. Every one I've tried has been been excellent. The bread is the best (you have little crispy crumbs all over you after) It is best to go early or late for lunch, because it gets very crowded. (that is usually a ggod sign) It's a deli/diner atmosphere (self serve) but well worth the effort.
Service is usually fast even in the rush. Good value!
Will we return? – Perhaps we will return, but we were not overwelmed with the service. The sandwich was good, but so were the others we ate in the French Quarter and the service was better at the other shops too.
Best n town – we ate here in a hurry on our way leaving the city.... wish it would have been one of our first stops..........the food was excellent and the food to match....be careful though, not credit cards accepted
