The Crack House Cafe – SOOOOOOOO tired of hearing about how great this dump is. They get a lot bands, but only because they are the only 18 and over venue around. How they pass a basic health code inspection is beyond me. I have seen their filthy hippie staff members blow the dust off of food service equipment before preparing and serving food to people. The sidewalk in front of the dump is a good spot to watch gray-haired hippies give cigarettes to 17-year-old kids and the local high school kids certainly enjoy selling drugs to people in the alley before and after shows. It's a real class act. Their loyal followers are constantly badmouthing the real music venue down the street at 1st and Lincoln Hwy because The House can't get the acts they they can, or serve liquor, for that matter.

To be fair, the place DOES have a friendly vibe, but it goes right out the window on their many METAL NIGHTS. Seriously, this place has no sense of theme. The interior looks like a day care center, the food is bought at Sam's Club and marked-up 400%(yes, we know), and the coffee is priced like Starbuck's, but tastes like the hospital cafeteria left-overs. I had a hot chocalate one time, which was about $3, that tasted like a Hershey's kiss dropped in hot water. Did I mention the freaking hula-hoops? WTF is THAT all about?

The place has potential, but it is mainly providing a head-quarters for the local losers with nowhere else to go because they are either too broke or too young. Put it this way: if there were a 2 drink minimum on show nights, the place would be empty.

A real gem. – Every college town attempts to establish a place like this and none I have been to have succeeded to this level. This place is all about art, music, great food and a real sense of community. I wish I could give it a few more stars.
