Wonderful fish sandwich – I had the fish sandwich and sweet potato fries for lunch yesterday. Absolutely wonderful, I am going back with clients soon! Waiter was great, good service, but they ran out of diet coke.
Not worth the price – I had dinner recently at the Standard, and it was truly disappointing. While the atmosphere is great--the house is beautiful--the food was average and the menu was boring. The food was not bad, but for close to $30 per entree, I expected much higher caliber. My pork chop was dry, the crab cake was mostly breading, and most entrees had the same two side dishes offered. Again, all would be fine if you were eating at a chain restaurant, but not a place that clearly claims to be something more. While we were there, the new chef came out to a table of regulars and explained that he planned to totally overhaul the menu, which is good to hear, but I am concerned by his inability to prepare the current menu offerings well (particularly considering the current menu consisted of very basic dishes). I am curious to see what the new menu has to offer, but would hesitate to go back, and definitely would not go back at the dinner prices.
Frozen sweet potatoes fries and a burnt hot brown served by a disdainful waiter – Well, I don't really write reviews, but to have a server speak to me like I'm an idiot is plenty of motivation. I can deal with the fact that the sweet potato fries are frozen and a busy kitchen who burns my food, but you'd think that my waiter would have been polite. He obviously was in a rush, but to flat out tell someone that you "don't have time to deal with them right now" is a bit much. All I wanted was a check. Did he not want my money? Weird. A gentle, "I'll be back with that soon." would have sufficed. I tried to find a manager on the way out to tell them about our server, but I was informed that there was no one available. Double weird. The decor is nice, as long as you want to feel like your dining in your grandmother's house. Which is a decor style that does fit the historic home.
You must visit NOW!!!!! – Let's start out that The Standard was very comfortable for lunch the service was excellent, the food is of fresh fare, and everything was perfect. I can't wait to go for dinner sometime soon.
Loved it! – I've had wonderful service and great food at the Standard. The atmoshpere is nice and you can't find a better selection of food that is all delicious anywhere else. They also did a great job on my friend's wedding after party.
Nashville's only remaining 1840s-era townhouse sees new life as a downtown lunch spot. – In Short
This three-story brick legend has hosted Nashville's elite as a boarding house, society club and set for music videos. But, ladies who lunch and businessmen now enter its grand arched doorway to dine under chandeliers and among refurbished mantles and Victorian furniture. The Standard's refined Southern-themed menu offers crab bisque flavored with Tennessee whiskey, Hot Brown sandwiches with sauce moray and chicken Madeira--all served over white tablecloths dotted with daisy bouquets.
Best Hot Brown anywhere – I LOVE The Standard! They have a sandwich called the Hot Brown that is amazing! They also have a Blackened Salmon that was the best Salmon I have ever had. The crab cakes are great, and so is the french dip. As you can see I love it, and go at least once a week. I look forward to them opening for dinner soon.
Great Food ....great environment – Try the crab cakes with creole mustard sauce. The Standard is the only place I know to get sweet potato fries (with chipotle dipping sauce.)
Best upscale lunch spot in town – Not only is The Standard's atmosphere breathtaking but the food is incredible. The crab cakes are the best in Nashville and the crab bisque leaves you wanting another bowl. My friends raved about the chicken basil and pesto sandwich and sweet potato fries as well. The service was excellent even on a busy Friday and the owners even offer a tour of the historic building. Great for business lunches or a day out with the girls!
Southern Charm!!!! – The Standard is just what Nashville has been looking for! Great food, great service, and Southern charm you just can't find anywhere else. The menu is diverse and great for groups. The building itself is worth the trip - don't forget to read all about it when you're there. I'd highly recommend it for business lunches, out-of-town guests, bridal luncheons, and special get-togethers.
