Uncooked, frozen beef and even worse service – I had been here a couple of times before about a couple of years ago and both times it was disappointing, but I saw the recent reviews being good, so I thought I'd give them one more try hoping they'd gotten their act together. I ordered a combo for a take out here about a couple of months ago - can't remember what it's called but it had marinated beef, rice, and macaroni salad. I took it home and opened the container just to find the beef (other than cooked looking surface)is in one solid, still frozen chunk underneath the thin layer that was cooked outside. I was horrified and disgusted that I threw it all away. This is on top of their service (or lack thereof) - the employees never bother with hello or thank you. Turned out my friends from the islands avoid this place all together. Go figure.

Great lunch spot – Just tried lunch here for the first time. I was very impressed by the quality of the food and the large portions. I had the kalua pork which was excellent. I also heard good things from the people I was eating with about the garlic shrimp and the curry. Medium price range but wonderful, tasty food. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu.

Excellent, authentic food; generous portions – My girlfriend and I went here after we spent a few weeks in Hawaii in late 2008. I had tried Loco Moco there, so I wanted to try that, and I also love Kalua pork. Both were excellent - the Kalua pork tasted like it was fresh from the Imu pit - and we've been back 7 or 8 times in the last 2 months. I can get both in a "combo" for around $1 more, so I don't have to decide between the two. My girlfriend loves SPICY food, but nobody around here can or will make it to her taste. She ordered the garlic shrimp "triple spicy" (not recommended for most!) and she LOVES it. They have a special spicy sauce they bring out from the back when she orders. Finally - a place that makes it the way she likes it. And when she's happy, I'm happy. :^) Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the great recommendation! We were nervous at first about pouring on so much heat for your girlfriend's shrimp and mahi, but she can handle it. We really do appreciate your help in spreading the word about the work that we love doing.

Solid Overall – Food is great. I would recommend carrying Aloha Shoyu though. Maybe its just me but I can't stand Kikoman shoyu, it ruins a good meal. Also, how about Hapa rice?

Just ask for Aloha Shoyu at the counter, we have it now.

Thanks for the positive feedback.

Amazing food. – I was just there tonight for some chicken katsu and spicy shrimp. YUM! I have known the owners and founders Hiriomi and Gerrick for years...From the inception the Aiea Grill was their vision. Gerrick is a phenomenal chef of not only the Hawaiian menu that he created, but also of sushi, steaks and everything else I have had the pleasure and honor of sharing with him and his delightful wife.

The differences between Aiea and many other Hawaiian restaurants are that Aiea is clean, and the food is high quality and very well made. Also Hiriomi and Gerrick are warm, friendly and gregarious people who genuinely care about their customers, their friends and the quality of their food.

Kanpai! Mahalo! Cheers! and Enjoy! :)

Delicious, Clean and Good Servise – I went to the restaurant with my co-worker today. I ordered a Hawaiian style spareribs. It was good!!

My co-worker ordered a Loco Moco and I tried some her Loco Moco. It was really good, too!!

Usually I am not Loco Moco fan, but I like their Loco Moco. Absolutely I will go back to this restaurant and I want to try a "combo menu" because I want to try other menu, too.

Simply put - AMAZING – I discovered this place last week, after seeing the ad here on citysearch, and I'm really glad I decided to check it out, because its the best tasting food I have discovered in the Portland area since I moved here in January. Everything I try at this place is amazing.. I keep trying new things, expecting that this time the food will just be OK (instead of great), but everything tastes o-so-good. Also, they have the best macaroni salad I have ever had, and I don't even like macaroni salad.

I just tried the mahi-mahi tonight, and WOW -- its perfectly cooked, with a lemon wedge and a tasty lemon butter sauce.. mmmm...

Aiea Grill staff - keep up the great work! Y'all have definitely succeeded in creating a unique place to eat.. Its easy to see that you put great pride and care into every dish. Thanks!

Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – I've eaten here a few times now and they never ever disappoint. I'm from the islands and I had some of my local friends visit who have also moved to the mainland. When we ate here it was like we were all back home. I think the only thing I wish was that it was a bigger restaurant with waiters/waitresses. Standing in line can be a hassle when it's busy (which is a lot of the times I've been there). The line can be going out the door. Small sacrifice for the food you get. I think Aiea Grill also has some things up on the places back home. The food is awesome, go eat here.

Thank you so much for the awesome comments. We all work hard to keep improving in every way. I agree, the store is getting a little small at times, and we would love to expand. Know any investors? :)

Great Food, what about gloves though when handling the food? – The food here is good! Always consistent. I have NEVER gotten sick or anything from this restaurant but the following still concerns me. I wish they would change their policy around this.

I was wondering how come they don't wear food handling gloves (like subway) when handling the customers' food? I watched them prepare the food, touching different kinds of meats across diferent orders, using the cash register and then going back to food handling w/o gloves nor did I see any hand washing take place.

The gloves are so very cheap and bring a lot of comfort to customers, especially when the food handling area is in clear view of patrons.

We can do much better in that area. Your concern is justified and it is being addressed immediately. Serving food to the public carries a HUGE responsibility where safety and sanitation are concerned.

Thank you also for your positive approach to making your observations known.

We are taking action on this now. One of the benefits of a totally open kitchen is that it keeps us on our toes. I hope that it will comfort you to know that our latest sanitation inspection score was a 100.

We very much appreciate your important comments.
