The Denver of Olde – Rockbar offers a piece of Denver that seems to be fading away. 70s, seedy, Western. Think Denver Nuggets throwback jersey. I liked the mirrors and the prices. Post-bar snowball fights. Still trying to figure out how it's possible to spend $90 in a night there. I suppose at Rockbar, anything is possible.
Save yourself the time, money, & agony – Oh my gosh... where do I begin? My whole experience with the folks at " m inc" has been awful to say the least. I recently threw a party for my husband at Rockbar and had Mezcal "cater" some appetizers for my guests. Based on my experiences in the past I was expecting a quality result. BOY WAS I WRONG! When I arrived and saw what was passed off as food I was dumbfounded. I had two cold trays of soggy "quesadillas" and one bowl of chips and guac to feed 30 people (And if I tell you how much they charged me per person you would be dumbfounded too!) Though I should have seen the writing on the wall as the "planning" process left a lot to be desired. From the beginning I could not lock down specifics from the girl that apparently m inc has employed as their key contact for events/catering. Not only did I not receive what we had agreed on in writing but there was a complete lack of follow-up on her part.
To say the least I DO NOT recommend using the folks at m inc for ANY of your event planning/catering needs!! Not only was my food cold & soggy I was rushed out of the area that I "reserved" at Rockbar... this was after purchasing 2 bottles of Mad Dog for what was to be their "bottle service" the only service I got out of the folks over there was a swift kick in the backside as they shooed my out the door because they told me they were expecting 300-400 people for the evening! Being good natured and noticing that my friends were having a good time on the dancefloor I allowed to them the space.. I can tell you I left at 1:00 a.m. and the space that I previously occupied was never used. Seesh!
KRUNK NASTY – Everything you've heard is true and this a great alternative to the dt and lodo scene of a club/bar that plays great muzik and not just top 40 garbage...
RockBar is the Radest bar in denver, PERIOD.... Sick ACEE Dj's that spin metal to gangsta rap and everything inbetween. Great Drinks (no weak poors) and even better people watching. So get a Mickeyz tall boy and get on the dance !!!flO!!!
Normally pretty cool scene but could do without the 'tude – Rockbar is a cool place to get away from the same ole Denver scene, especially the downtown scene, and has been a recent fav to drop in on the weekends. There is a nice electic group of people and I have thoroughly enjoyed the music and drinks. It's got a great dive feel, cool retro-arcade games you played as a kid in your local pizza joint, and did I mention the music?
Sadly, me and a crew went up here last week after dining out for Project Angel Flight. At the restaraunt, they gave us these flyers for Rock bar for a 1/2 price drink. We weren't planning on going out, but as Rockbar is a fav, & they seemed to be participating in the event, we'd decided to go. I ordered a double & was told that they wouldn't honor the coupon, which was fine, except that I got the biggest 'tude from the Celo-looking bartender about it straight off the bat once I handed him the coupon. He continued to lip at me about it & all I said was, "That's fine. what do I owe you?" After I paid him, I told him that he looked like Celo, and he lipped at me more. I realize Rockbar is supposed to have a bit edgy feel about it, but if you are participating in a fundraiser event, is it really necessary to be a righteous @#$ to your patrons, even when there is no reason for it to begin with? Why be rude to your customers when you have a practically empty bar?
Overall, the other bartenders & staff I have encountered there are cool, but it really left a sour note with me that this particular one was so unnecessarily rude. Hopefully if you go, this guy won't be there.
Like-minded late 20's Hispter Scene, great for dancing, a nosh, or some classic metal – Outwardly, Rockbar is at first a dubious choice - nestled in an old, low-rent looking budget motel on East Colfax... 3 things strike you as you walk in the door; Scarface-esque, red, tuck-and-roll vinyl booths, the huge dance floor on the left - ringed with booths, and a tiny little bar offering a small selection of canned beer. Then it becomes apparent how unique this place is in comparison to most of the drudgery at present in the Denver hipster bar scene. Rockbar aims to please with a jukebox boasting a range of Kkill 'Em All era Metallica, Run-DMC relics and Sabbath, to a DJ kicking out enough pseudo-indie hiphop to please the trendy city crowd. Love them though - a mix of pure Goths, various types of musicians, punky/ indie girl ala Suicide Girl wannabe's, aged frat boys, small, tattooed intense men, and tall Scandinavian girls dressed like babydolls... I couldn't have been happier for the people-watching. We ordered a basket of fries for $3 - the skinnies were brought out quickly, super-hot, and tasted great. We drank cans of Newcastle for somewhere around $4 each which was great albeit though it was after requesting a much-needed plastic cup from the bar. There might be a few of you like me that are a bit too prissy to drink from a can, but it didn't wear the place down too much. In fact - I can't wait to whip-out my black-eye liner, straighten my hair and find a teeny black concert t-shirt from my teens and return to Rockbar summarily. I'd recommend this place to anyone that was a hair-band kind of sort through the early 90s at least but have (mostly) moved past the need to wear an Axl-style bandanna, or anyone with a great appreciation for loud music, requisite distortion, a proletariat palette and love for the body ink. Also a great place for people-watching and more importantly ? dancing!! Not enough places like this in the city! It seemed to become exponentially busier after 11:30 so I?d suggest getting there earlier if you want a booth.
East Colfax watering hole raises the retro bar with a salute to the unforgettable '70s. – In Short
Lava lamps, orange- and silver-foiled wallpaper and floor-to-ceiling mirrors all remind visitors that old is newly in vogue at this groovy bar celebrating the 70s. Throwback hipsters jive to the sounds of heavy metal and classic rock--Metallica, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin--while tossing back PBR and Schlitz beers or cheap, but potent cocktails. The restored wood-parquet dance floor is packed with dancers rocking out as the DJ spins.
