The tour guide was excellent at facilitating a dialogue among the group, and she really helped us think about all of the different exhibition themes and issues. The show itself is fascinating, because it offers alternative views of Jewish communities throughout the country. I was especially taken with the portraits of teens by Dawoud Bey. The photographs are accompanied by audio recordings of the teens discussing their own identity. It was moving to hear the teens' actual voices while looking at their portrait.
Contemporary gallery dedicated to exploring the Jewish experience through art..
In Short
Culture, history and ideas orbiting Judaism are presented here through incisive and thoughtful contemporary art and installations. The small, hushed, one-room space located on the ground floor of the Jewish Community Federaton features rotating exhibitions of new and established artists--often from diverse religious and national backgrounds--exhibited in collaboration to cultivate dialogue. Art may include audio-visual installations, hands-on interpretive displays and hanging pieces.
