Best place to have a party on a budget – I organized a reunion for the organization i work for. I was looking for a place that did not require a minimum or charged a fee. I was able to find 2 locations. When I found Slattery and thought perhaps something was going to be horrible because you get what you paid for. Was I wrong. John Slattery himself was there to make sure everything went well and his staff was amazing again although we did not spend a lot of money. It was exactly what we needed. A place to get a big group together without spending too much. The space was great and private. I can not say enough. Everything was great all around.
A WINNER – We just had our annual women’s luncheon. All of us once worked for a major airline. Some attended the previous luncheons at other locations and some were first time guests. The women and I want to express our wonderful experience. The upstairs party room was perfect – full bar, relaxed dining area, and private rest rooms – all on the same floor and no other party sharing this floor. Mr. Slattery and staff were warm, friendly and the service was impeccable while attending to the guests’ needs. “The Midtown Buffet” was delicious, we had chosen Chicken Francais, Beef Tips in Burgundy Sauce and Penne a la Vodka. The mixed salad was chilled and fresh. The made-to-order Apple Crisp dessert was the perfect finishing touch to the meal. The ladies misplaced items and the staff always found them – honest and above board staff. The guests found the location also convenient to transportation and parking garages. We all had a great time mingling, drinking and eating. This flawless event was all due to the true professionalism shown by Mr. Slattery and his staff.
You will NOT be disappointed! – I just had a surprise 40th Birthday for my wife on March 20th with approximately 50 friends. After searching the web and considering a number of different places I was drawn to Slattery's after speaking with John and Justin, the owners, on the phone. They assured me from the beginning that though I was considering their bar/restaurant sight unseen that I would NOT be disappointed. I can tell you I WASN'T! They promised from the beginning that parties were something they have worked on and took a lot of pride in and they told me that the night of the party there would be nothing I would want for. Again, they were right! They gave us the party room upstairs (no additional cost) that was just PERFECT! It was a beautifully done room with big glass windows and a whole section of tables for people to sit and eat at. The room had an awesome sound system that they allowed me to plug my IPOD into and John(who was working the bar that night) cranked it higher anytime we asked. They took care of balloons for us and they took care of a cake. They greeted out guests when they arrived with signs directing them upstairs as well. We booked what they call the Ultimate Midtown Dinner party and it was worth it! The food was great! We ordered the Chicken Marsala, the beef Burgundy Tips, and Penne a la Vodka...all great choices! In fact when I realized a couple days before the event that it was Lent I called John in a panic and he offered to cook a tray of salmon as well with what they had till it was gone. VERY ACCOMODATING! In addition to the cake they served another dessert, some apple cobbler or something...and it was AWESOME! They had hot and cold appetizers passed around as well and they were just greatl! Because it was lent we ordered non meat appetizers...french bread pizzas, spring rolls, tomato and mozzarella...all delicious! I just can't say enough about how EASY these guys are to work with and how friendly they were! My guests just had an absolute blast and I know we will be back. The icing on the cake was when I called after the party and realized that we had 2 less people attend than I paid for that night. John did not flinch to issue me a refund for the amount and I have to tell you I wasn't surprised...these are good, honest, hard working people that will help you throw a great party and have an awesome time. Stop your searching, I've been there...it's no fun and you often find yourself talking to people that have more restrictions than anything...NOT here. If you have a need...ask...I'll bet you won't be disappointed at their response. Oh I forgot..Audrey was another bartender working the private bar for us upstairs and she was every bit as friendly! KUDOS to the entire staff their! These guys know what a good time is and they know how to throw a party! Don't hesitate to book your next party here!
best food in town – very nice Irish pub with great food and very good staff. could be hard to get a seat at the bar on Thursday and Friday for happy hour, but there's usually room at the upstairs bar. They are also very accommodating for parties and special occasions
AWESOME PUB – LOVED IT !!! Great service, amazing crowd, the tap beer is fresh and crisp ( no sour Bass or Harp here like 99% of the other pubs in NYC ). I didnt try the food but after the aroma from there I absolutely will, am planning anohter trip to NYC just around having dinner there. Thanks a ton
Bigots – I went in there with another English friend recently, it was full of very Republican anti-British Irishman and the barman was equally offensive and asked us to leave after one drink - this is a throwback to the IRA days, Gingerman opposite or Volcano next door us infinitely better and much less threatening.
Irish hot spot – I am retired from the restaurant industry after many years.
And some how cant help but voice my opinion on bars and restaurants that i visit. After my visit to slatterys i was very impressed. Warm friendly atmosphere. exceptional food. I had never realized that a Irish pub restaurant could serve food to this standard hats off to the chef staff and management at slatterys midtown pub. keep up the good work and i will look forward to my next visit.
Service – I saw a previous review about rude service and couldn't disagree more. The bartenders and servers are the perfect blend of sweet and beautiful. I have been to my share of bars and this place stands out as having the warmest service of any place that I've ever been.
I often come to this lovely bar in midtowb at weekends - good vibe, nice people to hang out and friendly staff.
Worst waitresses – Hands down the rudest service this native New Yorker has experienced. Waitresses were impatient, discourteous, had unhappy demeanor, suggested that I seemed "confused" about my drink order, and were confrontational about drink specials. An inquiry about a Happy Hour special prompted waitress #1 to stomp off and send over waitress #2, who arrived at our table with arms folded across her chest ? clearly not happy to serve us. Being very surprised by this entire exchange, we attempted to apologize for somehow offending waitress #1, when waitress #2 insulted us by saying she could see why her co-worker treated us badly. One round of drinks was all we needed to find that Slattery's employs the rudest Irish waitresses I've encountered in both NY and Ireland. Thanks for helping me find friendlier alternatives in the neighborhood.
