Terrific Atmosphere! – Been coming here for years and always have a good time. The service can be spotty at times but the food is consistently good. Every Saturday evenings, they have a live band play cuban salsa and whether you join the group of regular on the dance floor or choose to watch, it's loads of fun.
The prices are reasonable and well worth the price of admission. If you're into live music, don't miss Saturday nights.
Great Cuban food! – I wrote a review for the other location by mistake! This is the location where we ate. I'm sure the other location is great too, but I will always go to this one because the wait staff was fun and attentive and made our evening. It didn't hurt that the food was sooooooo great. I love Cuban food and this was by far the best Cuban food you can get in New York City. The atmosphere is also great and I felt like I was dining with a Cuban family.
YES YES YES!!! The BEST paella and ropa vieja in town! – I'll be very brief - EAT AT HAVANA CENTRAL!! You will not be disappointed. The food is so tasty. The mojitos are excellent. Value and service are also great.
THE WORST SERVICE AND FOOD - SHOULD BE NO STARS - DOESN'T DESERVE IT. – NEVER go w/young kids. We waited for 45 minutes for our meals. When it finally arrived the one of our dishes were completely raw eggs. After our kids lost their patience, our hunger turned into complete spite. The whole experience was HORRIFIC!!
Great food and service – I've gone to this restaurant several times and the service is great. I've had the luck to get the same waitress. She's great and friendly. The food is delicious and they give you a lot for your money. I highly recommend the Paella Valenciana (is what I always get when I go there) and the empanadas. Delicious sangria. Can't wait to go again.
Fun Atmosphere, Great Appetizers – I love coming to this place for an upbeat atmosphere during the week. The empanadas and nachos are among my favorite here. Recommend for a gathering with friends or coworkers.
Good food, service okay. – The food was great and decently priced. Dining room is a bit crowded. The service is okay, it seems they are understaffed and not all wait staff speak excellent English.
Get a lot for a little! – I've been to Havana Central twice now, once for brunch outside and once for dinner indoors. Both times I had a fabulous experience, especially the food and atmosphere. The staff were friendly and accommodating, the food was excellent, and the place itself had great energy and an overall cool vibe. Given my currently less-than-thick wallet, one of the best parts of the whole experience was the pricing. Dinner for two cost only $24 -- with tip! A great cool place for all.
Bad Experience All Around – *We were seated/squeezed inbetween 2 other tables, with less than 1 foot of space between couples.
*The music was very loud. I was constantly raising my voice and asking my date to repeat herself.
*The service was very poor (leaving his name out b/c I don't want anyone to get introuble):
They brought our food before we'd finished appetizers.
They brought the wrong food for our main courses - when we told the server that the order was supposed to be vegitarian, he obviously did not speak english because he tried to serve it 3x before we had to tell him "no quiero."
The server told our waiter that we did not want this food, and the waiter never came over to clairfy, or ask how things were, as waiters normally do, so the whole party waited to eat while we though this salad was being made.
After 20 mintues, 15 of which were spent trying to get our waiters attention, without drink refills, or water, I stood up and waived my hands over my head for 30 seconds before our waiter finally came to our table.
Of course, after 25 minutes, when the rest of my dates meal finally came out, all of the hot food was cold, and we still didn't have drink refills.
As the bus boy cleared our table, I asked him for water, and while he acknowledged my request, he cleaned 2 other tables before I said "agua por favor," and he brought water.
Maybe it was just bad luck, maybe the loud music was hurting communication, maybe when people don't speak english, and someone tells them something in english, they should not guess at what the person is saying, maybe waiters should come over to your table after your food is served and ask if everything is ok. Maybe I'm not sure what the reason was, but we left frustrated and unsatisfied.
A traditional college hangout meets traditional Cuban food. – In Short
At this revamped incarnation of Columbia University's fabled West End, students and professors dine on burgers and Cuban fare like empanadas and paella prepared in individual iron pots. Old photos of Ivy League athletes set the mood in the dim front room, while the back's tangerine walls and checkered floor foster a brighter, tropical vibe. Both sections have their own deluxe bars where beer and frozen cocktails are served late into the night.
