Poor service, high staff turnover – Do not waste your time and money on this restaurant. I have been a regular customer at this Ruggles Grill trying to like it because of the nice atmosphere and food over the last 8 months. The food is expensive but is presented nicely. Over time, the food has become inconsistent in quality and the service has significantly declined. The staff turnover is high and my last several dining experiences (eating in and taking out) have had wrong dishes served, no bread despite *4* requests, slow drink refills, take out packaged in boxes upside down so contents spill, waiting over 20 minutes for the bill and then not having it run properly, etc, etc. I have frequently been angered by the attitude and slow response time. What a disappointment compared to the Ruggles Grill we used to frequent in Houston. I cannot recommend this restaurant. There are much better places where you receive good service AND food for the high prices that you pay.

one dish good, one dish not..... warm martini's and bright lights. – The description and pictures of this restaurant on their website is not a good representation of what to expect. They tried on the decor but the lights are so bright you feel like you are in a school cafeteria. The bartender appears incapable of making a decent martini - I guess they don't really need to actually be cold, even when requested that way. The host was very nice and the waiter was a sweet young kid but when questioned about the available wines by the glass we received blank stares, but he did his best. My boyfriend?s steak was little better than average but the side veggies were great. My chicken was very good. I would be tempted to go back just for the chicken dish but the atmosphere is so bad I never would, maybe order to go? If I had kids it would be a maybe.

Great bar and grill - finally! – After reading some so-so reviews in various publications/Web sites, we were dubious about Ruggles, especially on a Saturday night. This first visit was very, very enjoyable, even with the children wandering about the entire restaurant. Our greeter thankfully went out of her way to find us a quiet table. For a starter, I selected the gumbo from the night's specials. It was appropriately-seasoned, with a hint of andouille, seafood and okra, and delicious. We enjoyed a tuna and a snapper entree, each well-presented with a delightful medley of vegetables. The portions were not huge at all but more like tapas servings. Dinner was finished with a shared slice of delicious chocolate cake and coffee. Our server was very friendly and pleasant and part of the experience vs being a distraction. I sincerely hope a bar and grill survives on the west/southwest side of town. The new Hyde Park Grill to the south seems to be thriving. Ruggles should be able to do the same based on good food, a good location, and great, consistent service. We now wish we had visited sooner and will definitely return.

Excellent, tasty fare! – I am in the catering business in Austin and know good food. Ruggles has great food and a relaxing environment. I love to drop in after a long day and sit in the bar and wolf down crawfish etouffe or stuffed trout. The vegetables are fresh, well prepared and tasty. The menu is extensive and they serve a great burger. The service is attentive without being cloying. I frankly cannot understand why this restaurant is not more popular.

Give it a try and have the crawfish or the stuffed trout --- but you better bring your appetite cause the portions are huge!

No. No. No. No. – Seriously? The description of this place makes it sound like a quaint little french chateau. Instead, it's Applebees meets Hoovers. The food is just OK - portions are enormous, with tons of sides that make your meal look like a thanksgiving dinner plate. We both had fish - mine was oversalted and overcooked. I'm not sure where the southwestern or asian "fusion" cuisine was, but it wasn't on my plate. I left having spent way too much money on mediocre food in a crappy setting - plus, I had to drive a half hour to get there. No thanks.

In blooming Westlake, this energetic New American eatery brings jumbo portions and jazzed-up fare from Houston. – The Scene
This wildly popular restaurant chain has been satisfying diners since the mid-1980s with rich food, reasonable prices and bustling surroundings. The extensive, eclectic menu is notable for oversized portions and aggressively robust flavors. A goat cheese salad starter could serve three. Entrees, like grilled lamb chops are surrounded by a veritable garden of side vegetables. Pizza, pasta and chicken variations are available in abundance and the desserts were meant for sharing.
