local eats, fried food heaven – I'll be honest, I live within spitting distance and I love anything close by, and I've only ever gotten the chicken strips, fish n chips and dee-wait for it-lightful milkshakes!! BUT this is truly a gem. Great friendly staff, nice menu that I've seen, but I am a die hard for my fried food. But seriously the milkshakes - real ice cream mmmh! OH- and they use environmentally-friendly biodegradable plastic take out bags, that earns 100 stars in my book! The meat isn't organic but they only use 100% veggie oil- non-hydrogenated. Check them out! I know I'll be back to check out the rest of the menu.
Relaxed 30's atmosphere, great food – I picked this place from citysearch reviews and it was spot on. Wonderful food. I had a turkey sandwich and my husband got fish and chips. Both were great, but the fish was the best either of us have had in a long time. I also tried their Vodka Italian Soda...which was very good. Wait staff kept coming by to check on us, but were not intrusive. I wish we lived closer, because it would be my neighborhood joint. Great for adults, but still kid-friendly. The only minus is that it was 95 degrees outside and their A/C wasn't working.
Neighborhood treasure – Love, love, love that I'm lucky enough to be so close to this place. The food has become much more consistent than when I first started frequenting, and I have always had an overall positive experience there. The pork loin is a wonderful entree. The meatloaf is like a dream! The brunch is totally radical with hearty corned beef hash as a personal favorite. The fish n chips are some of the best I've had, ever. The drinks are usually not worth buying, unless you figure out which waitress/bartender is the master. I'd pass otherwise. Oh, and did I mention that there are MILKSHAKES!!! Great variety, friendly service, and comfortable spacious booths make this neighborhood cafe/soda shop a total winner.
Real food - great neighborhood place – Honestly, people -- eat at Sckavone's. If you're like me, you're tired of over-hyped restaurants that empty your wallet without filling your stomach. Which is you'll love Sckavone's like I do. My wife and I have been going here regularly since they opened (we live 2 blocks away) and we have never been disappointed. Nothing fancy -- just normal food, deliciously prepared at a decent price. I'm a burger guy, and I think they have one of the best in town (1/2 pounder!).
Awesome food, feels like your "special" place – My boyfriend and I have eaten here several times recently alone as well as with our 3 yr old son, this place is as conducive to a date as it is a family dinner.
The menu is as clean and simple as the diner itself.
We have enjoyed sunday morning 11:00am breakfast with no wait whatsoever. Their coffee is excellent and the breakfast portions are absolutely perfect. For dinner my boyfriend had a fancier pasta while I enjoyed a sandwich both were wonderful.
Their mixed drinks are yummy and only $4 bucks at happy hour.
Good music is always playing and the wait staff is just the right amount of friendly. my only fear with this place is that once the word gets out it will become a pretentious hipster scene like so many other great diners around pdx.
Great spot for meeting friends – My husband and I met three other couples at Sckavone's on a Saturday night. We enjoyed the atmosphere and customer service. We ordered several items on the menu and we were all pleased with the food. The favorites included the meatloaf, fish & chips and salmon special. We look forward to returning.
Unique, fun, and very good – Don't let the past guide you, as this "neighborhood restaurant" is just that-casual, friendly, not too expensive and everyone in the neighborhood can enjoy this unpretentious spot. The bar is really cool because it's oval shape allows conversation between everyone at the bar, not just the blokes on either side of you. The wait staff is very nice, and the owner is extremely chatty and witty.
This isn't a "5-star" restaurant, so don't expect perfect everything every time. Be glad though that you won't have horrendous holdups when waiting in line to get in on a Sunday, or sitting down and waiting for your food.
Big - actually HUGE comfy booths, lots of windows, and high ceilings make this place roomy, but the decor makes it feel cozy as well. In my opinion the ambience is perfect...makes you want to have just one more beer or ice cream float!
getting alot better – This place seems to finally be working out the kinks a few months after it's opening. The food is very tasty and suprisingly affordable. The service is lacking some charm and knowledge at times, although sometimes it seems there is only one server when most seats are full. Overall it's nice to go to a great neighborhood place to get great food and a couple of drinks for around twenty bucks.
Delicious homestyle breakfast, veggie friendly – The boyfriend and I went here for lunch and it was delicious! Seeking comfort food on this cold & rainy day, I ordered the sausage scramble with veggie-sausage and my date had the pastrami sandwich with clam chowder. Rarely do you get veggie sausage scramble (and at 1:30 in the afternoon!) so I was thrilled. The potatoes were tasty & my date said that was one of the best pastrami sandwiches he's ever had. The coffee was surprisingly good. Our server was the only one working, and as a result we had to wait a bit for menus and for our check, but she was also very friendly and nice once our order was in & she had time to chat. My only criticisms are that there weren't very many vegetarian options, and the ladies room smelled like a hamster cage.
Excellent Neighborhood Diner – We were very happy when Sckavone's opened since it is very close to our house. All of the meals we have eaten here have been excellent. I love their Autumn Pasta, the bacon, vegetables, fettuccine and cheese tossed with a little olive oil, allow the flavors of each ingredient to come through without it the dish being too heavy. I think my favorite item is their Apple Caramel Sunday. The crust on the apple pie is wonderful and of course who would not love caramel and ice cream topping the pie served in a sundae dish. Service is always friendly and wiling to help with special orders. Good value for the cost.
