Worst Salon Ever!!!!! – Ladies, BEWARE of this place. I really wish that I could give Urbanbella zero stars, but since that is not an option, 1 star will have to suffice. I booked a product consultation 2 weeks ago, and paid my $50 deposit to secure the appointment. I arrived on time for my appointment, and there was only one other customer waiting ahead of me. After taking the other client back to get her hair washed, i still waited 30 minutes before anyone decided to take care of me, even though there were two other stylists working. At this point, I could see that my visit to Urbanbella was not going well. The person who did my consultation tried 2 different products on my hair while using flexi rods. She then began to tell me that she was going to try to two strand twist another part of my hair. At this point she decided to tell me and I quote, "Your two strand twists would be much prettier if a stylist was doing them." At this moment, I am thinking, so you're not a stylist, but your conducting my consult, and you don't even have to confidence level for showing me what to do with my hair! A few minutes later she turned on the hair dyer and said, "ok, i'm going to sit you under the hair dryer. I checked out my hair in the mirror and noticed that she had not even applied any product to a huge section of my hair, and did not even attempt to put a flexi rod or two strand twist this part of my hair. I asked her so what are you going to do with this half of my hair? She had the nerve to tell me that during a product consultation they do not style all of your hair. I was LIVID at this point. What do you mean you don't style all of the hair??? Am I supposed to walk around with half of my hair done? I immediately told her that I would not sit underneath the hair dryer, to take the flexi rods out of my hair, and asked to speak to the owner. The owner then told me that she could "try" to squeeze me in to get my hair styled, but a spot could not be guaranteed. So am I just supposed to hope that you have a spot for me to get my hair styled? NO! I asked for a refund for the $50 deposit that I gave them, and told them I would go see my regular stylist that I know would be able to style my hair. The owner then told me that she would not give me a refund for my deposit since "services were already rendered." Styling half of my hair is not what I call service, and after explaining this over and over and over again, the owner finally gave me my refund. Like i said before, BEWARE of booking a consult here!
Worst experience of my life!! – If I could give them less than one star, I would!! I spent over $150.00 at this salon and I expected much more!. I was referred to this salon because they specialized in curly hair...what a crock!!. I waited over 45 minutes after my appointment time just to get a wash. The girl that cut my hair was HORRIBLE and so inexperienced!! Do not go to this salon if you want a great cut and you expect a professional environment.. The salon is dirty and undesirable! I had to go to another salon to correct the worse than ever cut. I have had better cuts for $15.00. DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON!!
Not a good experience – I have worn natural hair for about three years now and recently decided to go curly. A friend of mine suggested that I visit Urban Bella and I did. The first time I visited the store I was impressed by the number of different product lines and the amount of information the consultants provided me about the care of my hair.
The consultant was very judgmental and critical of individuals who wear their hair pressed and I almost felt ashamed that I would dare to "blow fry" my hair (their words not mine). After about 30min. of listening to the consultant tell me about the products I should "try" I purchased about $90 worth of product. (about what I expected to pay after doing my research online).
I realized that due to pressing, my hair had about 7-8 inches of that were only wavy. I decided that I would make an appointment and begin gradually trimming away the straight ends.
THIS IS THE PART THAT YOU HAVE TO READ!!!!!
When I called to make an appointment, I was told that a "shaping" (which is a trim in layman terminology) was $65 (ok that's reasonable I suppose) BUT they "don't like clients to leave without a finished look so they don't do shapings without coupling it with a style" CHEAPEST STYLE? $35. I was irritated about this, but like a dummy I didn't pick up on the signs, so I scheduled an appointment, by leaving a $50 NON REFUNDABLE deposit.
When I arrived, I was ignored for about 10min and then asked to wait in the "waiting area". I filled out a little questionnaire on which I stated "I ONLY WANT A TRIM" additionally I answered another question by saying that "I WANT TO KEEP MY LENGTH!" then when I sat in the chair I said "I WANT TO BEGIN CLIPPING THE STRAIGHT ENDS BUT I WANT TO DO IT GRADUALLY OVER TIME "
Long story short, the stylist, who said maybe 20 words to me the entire time cut ALL 8 INCHES of my straight ends off and when I started crying she said "IT LOOKS LIKE MINE, ITS SO CUTE" Additionally, she put so much product in my hair that it felt like I had a hair full of Elmer's glue. When I asked how long she had been doing natural hair she said “professionally, about a year” That’s when I started crying again. So all in all I spent $110, and left with ONE bottle of shampoo, a hair full of “glue”, and about 4 inches of remaining hair. When I got home I was forced to wash $35 of product down the drain and listen to a very angry husband cry over the length of my hair.
I WILL NEVER RETURN TO URBAN BELLA!
POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE – Ok... so urban bella..after dropping a little over $160.00 at the store on my "prescribed" products and getting home and trying them I woke up the next morning with my head feeling like it was inflamed. After calling and letting the store representative, Benita, I believe , know that the 'prescribed' product was causing an iritation she all but let me know that they do not take back anything that is used and they dont accept returns on any other products. Hmmmmmm...poor business practice. It seems that A) Urbanbella has little to no faith in their vendors products because if they did their return policy would certainly not be so horrendous. B) Benita was very nonchalant and unsympathetic to the fact and basically responded in a manner that was not very professional. Here's the thing ladies, black, mixed, whatever you are please DO NOT FALL FOR THE HYPE! Investigate product lines for yourself and confer with a professional before spending your resources in places that are unappreciative of your business. And finally, Yes I am going to go there, it is a shame that black-owned or run businesses cannot do better. But even more than that, black women HAVE to do better. I will NEVER go back to Urbanbella.. except to drop every bit of product that I did purchase right back on their sales floor.....and then I am cancelling my credit card order!!!!!
BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE – I recently went to urban Bella and bought a product-KINKY CURLY-and my hair had white flakes all over it. I brought the product back and I told them what happened. They stated that they do not accept returns, even though the reciept said that you could exchange products. The salon employee was rude and horrible and acted like she could care less even though I spent 30 of my hard earned dollars on a produc that I could not use! After speaking with other women this is their status quo! I may have lost 30$, but I hope that this is helpful to other women. Know that you will not get your money back and they are very judgmental if you press your hair.
Great Product Consultation - OK Service and Salon – I went to Urbanbella after deciding to fully commit to being a curly-haired girl after being natural for 7 years (I alternated between pulling it back and press and curl). I made an appointment for a product consultation, paid the $50 deposit, and arrived on time. I was barely greeted when I arrived and was directed to the waiting area. While waiting, several stylists walked passed me, no one acknowledged my presence. I felt like an outsider without the secret club code. Finally, I was escorted to the consultation chair where a stylist tried several different products on small sections of my hair. During the consultation, she provided great advice on styling and maintenance. I left with a "prescription" of products and a daily regimen. The products were expensive but I priced them on the web and the prices at Urbanbella are quite competitive. My hair looks good and I will continue to use the products. I don't think I will return for any services as it did not have a welcoming atmosphere.
