Cupcakes Yum! – If you are looking for a real quality cupcake this is the place. No more searching, grab your wallet and head to Kara's. These cupcakes are deliciously good without being too rich. If you arrive early enough you might be able to snag a mini so run on over. Besides the actual cupcakes the store has a sleek and modern design with the cupcakes framed in glass cases. Kara herself is often there and always checking in to make sure her customers are fully satisfied. If you go, do yourself the favor and don't just get one, trust me you will won't regret it!

best cupcakes anywhere!!! – Wow,

I just tried kara's cupcakes. What an amazing bakery. First of all, the space is so cute. Clean and modern without being sterile. Very well thought out, and well executed. A super fun store. Unique, and pink.

Oh, yeah, and the cupcakes. How about the best cupcakes anywhere!! I had heard about his place and was sure the cupcakes would follow the trend of bland dry cake topped with overly sweet frosting. No Way. Kara's cupcakes are like a dream. Moist cake, lots of flavor ( especially the chocolate ) and real complex frosting. She makes mostly buttercreams, which are delicious, but the sweet frostings she offers are not too sweet, and the cream cheese is oh so tasty.

The cupcakes are even more pretty than the pink store, with a display case showing all the yummy flavors.

I cant wait to go back and try more ( they have a dozen choices or so ) , especially the filled ones ( passion fruit and lemon ).

Friendly staff, perfect little cupcakes and a jewel box like store...all reasons to try this new bakery in the marina...

Where's the quality control? – Being a cupcake connoisseur, I rushed to Kara's Cupcakes as soon as it opened. Love the concept, love the sweet little shop, but was very underwhelmed by the product. I bought several cupcakes and the quality varied by individual cupcake -- one was too dry, one was undercooked, a couple had less frosting than the others, one was borderline burnt. Figuring it had just opened and needed to work out the kinks, I have gone back twice since and had the same experience. You can just look at the cupcakes in the case and see the varying degrees of "doneness" and frosting coverage. Maybe they're a bit rushed and overwhelmed back in the kitchen. By contrast, Sprinkels in L.A. is a great cupcake store and turns out a consistently great cupcake -- they do a much higher volume and still get it right. And look at Miette's in our own backyard (San Francisco, at the Ferry Building). I've never gotten a cupcake there that wasn't perfection, and you can count on the quality being consistent week after week, cupcake by cupcake.

good ... BUT VERY PRICEY – Just went there and got small 8 cupcakes, which cost me a whopping $24.00. The cupcakes are good, though, but I wouldn't revisit, unless I really wanted empty my wallet and spend $3 per cake. I would recommend trying it, but only for the curiousity factor.

Cute Cupcakes in the Marina – It's a good business idea - organically-made cupcakes in the Marina - and only cupcakes - but couldn't it have been better? Granted, I've only tried one cupcake - the passion fruit - but I was left feeling disappointed. I love the cupcake-only idea - makes me think of castles and lands where they would have one little shop for cupcakes, one for cookies, one for cakes ... My point is, there is so much room for creativity here! And for $3 a cupcake, I expect something grand - what I got was a nice cupcake in a nice little pink shop, in a neighborhood where for most people, $3 is nothing. It's 'just okay' to me. That being said, I think it's great that they use all organic, locally-produced ingredients - it's definitely worth a try, but I would stick to one of the more traditional cupcakes.
