7 tattoos by annie mess and i love each and every one! – I would (and have) suggested Annie Mess to any and everyone that comments on my tattoos. She has tattooed be 7 times (including my hand piece which is a work of art that she did for free!!) She is an amazing artist that took the ideas that I couldn't get out of my head and put them on paper...and then onto my body :) I am pleased with all of the work she has done on me, which is considerable (a back piece, sleeve, knuckles, hand, forearm....) she is fast and I think totally affordable for her skill level. She is also one of the only tattoo artists I know who has been able to master doing fine lines. Everything from small font to a delicate drawing of an owl, to the perfect pictures on my knuckles. Thank you Annie for being the most amazing tattoo artist I have ever come across, and I can't wait for our next session!
Annie Mess is amazing! – Let me start by saying that I had a small tattoo on my back so I was aware of how getting a tattoo felt. Well, touchee because Annie Mess has an extrememly light hand and each sitting was a painless joy. First off, her creativity is amazing. I went in with an idea for a quarter sleeve with the center piece being the foot of mercury. Annie neede a few days to come up with an idea and then promptly called me to have me come in for the first sitting. When i got there I was a bit nervous but with the mix of super nice people and great music I was fine. Annie's design was amazing and I loved everything about it. The rest of the sleeve she had decided to free hand on with a sharpy after she put the center piece down. And away we went. I ended up sitting 4 times i believe for 3 to 4 hours each time. Now that it is finished I am in love with my tattoo and Annie. The colors are super bright and it looks like a painting, a tattoo with feeling. Annie is outstanding and super caring. To be honest I was pretty sad when she finished it because that meant no mas visits. Our visits were very cathartic for me; not only was I getting a tattoo that really meant something to me, but my talks with Annie were great. She is so cool, and sweet; not to mention hilarious. So basically, I have already come up with another idea and am saving money in my piggy bank to go back. Let me add that it was worth every penny. This is quality artistic work and you should expect to pay for what you want. I mean this is her job and profession. What would you expect, this isn't the corner tattoo shop in Juarez. I would recommend Annie Mess to anyone. In fact I have already...thanks Annie, I love my tattoo!
Annie is the best! – I've been tattooed by about 20 different artists in Austin, and once I got one from Annie I haven't gone anywhere else. She's extremely communicative and easy to work with, she has a light touch and does brilliant work. Her prices are a little high, but good tattoos aren't cheap (and cheap tattoos aren't good).
Tattoo Experience was great – I took my boyfriend to get a tattoo done by Anne for his birthday a while back and it was great. She stayed true to his requests and the finished product came out better than we could have imagined. She does fabulous work!!!
In response to the last review about me (Annie Mess):
I pride on customer service, and the client never told me she was unhappy. At the end of the session she told me she was happy with the work and I assumed that we would continue with more color (greens and yellows) on the next session.
I would have been more than happy to change the design if she would have told me. I feel judging an unfinished tattoo is unfair. Waiting 4 months to post a bad review is also unfair.
She didn't contact me at ALL with her concerns. I bend over backwards to make my clients very happy. I wish she would have been more clear in her thoughts.
You can judge by my website that I do quality work and it saddens me that she couldn't come talk to me because I would have been happy to help her.
I thought that I was doing exactly what she wanted. I worked in the parameters she gave me. I wish the artistic process wasn't able to be fulfilled because she would have been happy with the work.
Horrible experience, Annie Mess totally overrated – I had a tattoo done by Annie Mess in October, which I have since been having lasered to remove. My experience could have been the result of a horrible miscommunication (even though I was explicit in my description and brought in a finished tracing and color studies of what I wanted.) I should mention that I have a degree in drawing and painting. I wanted an addition of a fall maple leaf branch behind my previously existing tattoo of a vine of roses (which I loved), and what I got was a complete transformation of my once-colorful piece into a horrendous monochromatic one. Annie suggested that she go over what was there before to freshen up the lines, yet ignored my request to keep it delicate-looking. And since the piece was on the backside of my hip, I could not see that she was not only tracing over what was there before, but altering it to make it look like she wanted it to look. When I asked her about it, she said, "Well, I changed everything to look like the new piece because it would just look weird to have two different kinds of leaves in the tattoo." My fall maple leaves (and the entire piece) came out only brown and burnt orange- and everything looked dead. When I asked if she could at least throw some yellows and greens in to balance it out, she replied, "But green isn't a fall color." I asked why she had it in her palette and she said, "Oh, I guess I should have explained that- it was just there to make the brown with." I ended up paying her (a lot of money) for her time, and thankfully leaving before the thing was finished. I hate to make a fuss, but this was a terrible experience, and things like this should just not happen. Tattoos are not haircuts, and a tattoo "artist" should not just make executive decisions mid-tattoo, especially if their creative vision is so narrow they can't see why two different kinds of leaves might be in one tattoo. Although laser removal is excruciating and very expensive, I will be so glad when this tattoo is gone.
Karen is amazing – Beautiful art, beautiful soul, beautiful ink. The woman knows her stuff. She can bring a brilliance to your own art that you didn't know existed or create something from scratch as if she has know you your whole life. Great insight, amazing talent. Will never go to another artist.
Amazing Tattoo Experience from Anniemess – I went in to Resurrection Tattoos knowing that I wanted a memorial tattoo for my grandmother, but not really sure what I wanted, or where I wanted it. I spoke with Roger, who helped me decide between the different styles I was considering, and suggested my bicep for placement of the tattoo. Because of the painting-like style I wanted, he recommended that I work with Annie. I was very lucky that she had a cancellation, and I actually got tattooed the day after I went in for a consultation. Everyone at the shop was friendly, and knew their stuff. My sister and I got to watch their talented body piercer, Dutch, do some piercings while Annie worked on my tattoo. I have seven other tattoos, but none of my experiences has ever, EVER been so wonderful. I highly recommend this shop to anyone looking to get tattooed, the folks here are truly artists. And they're pretty entertaining, too.
Best in Austin works here!!! – Every artist that works at Resurrection has a different style to accommodate anyone's tastes. They are nice and friendly with no egocentric attitude. I love the newly remodeled clean space!!
And, a documentary is being filmed there on cancer recovery and tattoo!
Book early as this is a very busy shop with lots of talented artists featured in magazines and The Chronicle!!!!
Tina is a Mermaid – Over the past 15 years I have been tattooed by Tina, from her beginning in Florida to flying to DC and Austin for her amazing talents. She is an amazing and innovative artist who is really concerned about your satisfaction and asks for you to return to check out the healed product. She is also a pretty mermaid. No I am not an employee.
