Billys on Burnet is a good neighborhood joint – We used to make frequent stops at Billys when we lived in Rosedale. Billys on Burnet is the type of place that every neighborhood needs. Billys is not 5-star food, but the burgers, fries & sandwiches are good and affordable. The beer selection is robust. The atmosphere is laid back (TVs inside and a patio outside). Its also kid friendly (pool tables & video games inside), which is why its a good neighborhood hangout.
I wouldn't recommend Billys if you are looking for Austin fine dining, but happily recommend it for a casual dinner with family or drinks with friends.
It is what it is. – Billy's is good or bad depending on the day, the time, the weather, the tides. I'm still trying to figure it out. Their menu is hit or miss. Some of the items make me wonder if they ever try their own food. They've got good wings, and my friend liked their Reuben. I've had three different burgers hoping each time that the previous crapiness was a fluke, but each time they've been horrendous. Nachos are meh. You've got to hand it to them for having real vegetarian options. The atmosphere is laid back and friendly. If you want a place to hang out, drink beer and eat wings, Billy's is nice. Asking anything more from there leads to disappointment.
never again! – horrendous service, the attitude in this place is that you are lucky to be served by them. I don't plan to ever go back.
This place simply rocks! – I just moved ot the area and was lucky to find this place! This place is the real deal - old fashion corner bar and grill and a sports bar They have old school vid games, pool and darts and a butt load of TV's. Their burgers are pretty decent, but the kicker is they a lot of draft beers - all kinds of good local and foreign beers - I try a different one everytime I'm there. They could have better happy hour prices, but waht can you do? And there are too many guys working there - what's a bar without the ladies?
Want a stomach ache? – Billy's is terrible. Quite frankly Billy should be ashamed. While there was a wide selection of beer, I went to eat a burger as the previous reviewers conveyed that the food was tasty. It was tasty alright... but it tasted like something I might not feel good about feeding my dog. I had "The Hoss," it came with bbq sauce, cheddar cheese and an onion ring on top, sounds fantastic, doesn't it? Well it was nothing shy of awful, the bun appeared to have a trace of mold on it, the meat was burned to a crunchy state and the bbq sauce was terrible. My date had the "Mushroom Burger." It looked fantastic so I asked for a bite and was sorry I did so. The mushrooms were marinated in some sort of bad wine and it accented the burned meat in an awful manner. To make matters worse, we set outside to enjoy the weather (and because the inside isn't clean) and there were more ciagarette smokers and brown teeth than all of Europe combined. I was a bit apprehensive my date would leave me for taking her there and when I saw the assortment of weathered women hanging around Billy's I knew I needed to do something big to recover... but all I could think about was "The Hoss" and how it would likely haunt me for hours.
One Star and a Photo Booth? – This reviewer must have Billy's confused with another place. There is no photo booth, and never was.
reviewer went to wrong place.... – Just wanted to note that the other reviewer that rated Billy's as a one star, and said that the burger and fries were terrible, must have gone somewhere different...Billy's on Burnet does not have a black and white photo booth......just give poor reviews to the correct restaurant!
Absolutely awful... – I had heard tons of great things about this place over the radio, so a friend of mine and I decided to try it out. I'm not sure if they were having an off day or what, but it was completely unedible. The burgers we got were burned and flavorless to say the least and the fries were terrible. "How is it possible to screw up french fries?" You may be asking. Well, I wondered the same thing, but Billy's managed to do it quite nicely. The only perk is a black and white photo booth inside which managed to keep the experience from being a total waste. Will not visit this establishment again.
Burgers, beer and easy camaraderie keep this Allandale dive booming. – In Short
Intent on creating a low-key burger joint, Austinite Billy Forrester (owner of Dog & Duck Pub and the former Waterloo Brewing Company) created this no-frills restaurant in 2004. Casual families and neighborhood regulars amble in to order juicy burgers, classic sandwiches and other comfort foods. A surprisingly varied meatless menu offers vegetarians many options. The spacious deck is a favorite dining spot for many, while others prefer to keep an eye on the televisions inside.
Home of the happiest hour and more – If you want a great beer selection along with good prices and great burgers, go to Billy's. They have great prices (including discounted Guinness during their happiest hour) and their burgers are some of the best that I have ever had at a bar.
