My experience was nothing but enjoyable. I enjoyed the full sized sushi rolls at happy hour prices, sipped on a sake sampler and sat in the "red" lounge by the fireplace. My server was prompt, friendly and attentive. By 5:30 the lounge was packed and there was a wait to be seated in the dining room.
Wow, I don't know why everyone on here seems to be against this place...did they go to a different restaurant? I've never had anything but good experiences when I've visited this location, and I've visited this location a handful of times since it's been open. We've always had great sushi, great Saki, and great service! I did have a server who messed up on the bill once, but the problem was taken care of promptly by the manager, which is what you should do in that situation, so I have no complaints. Sidenote: The fire pit in the bar is great for ambiance on a date too.
The food is quite overpriced but expected for the location of the restaurant. Personally I will never return simple due to the tremendously rude staff.
Do not waste your $$$ like that,a total rip off restaurant! – Awful!!!!
The most expensive restaurant for only sushi, extremely over price! Ridiculous prices, is just sushi,c'mon!
I dont want to even give it one star. Seriously save your money and go to a better place, where you can eat even more for less than half .
ICK- horrible customer service – Too bad there is no 0 or - rating. Terrible management! I've spent way too much money here - no more!!
Gross. – I've eaten here twice before at the Clackamas location, but it wasn't anything special. On my third, and final, visit the service was extremely slow. I asked for additional wasabi and didn't receive it until I had finished all of my sushi; there was no point in bringing it to me then. The sushi was definitely not fresh and didnt taste good at all.
Terrible!!!! – I have never taken the time to write a review, but was compelled to sit and take the time to voice our exceedingly poor experience at this pathetic excuse for a restaurant! The sushi was smelly and old. The service, excruciatingly slow....!!!
Do not eat roten sushi or old food – Hello, I am from japan and all of the staff is korean. I don't mind that they our but they do not understand japanese food! I ate there many times and the food is of bad quality and the crab isnnt real. Why do they put old food on the plates and serve it mayonaise/cream on everthing
Terrible customer service, inconsistant quality – Asthetically, Sinju is a gem. Very swish and trendy, with a modern Japanese fusion interior. As I live (and work) very close by, Sinju was one of my often-frequented restaurants. The sushi is usually fresh and creative, and the other Japanese dishes remind me of the foods I ate when I lived in Kobe, Japan.
That said, the customer service and quality of some of its meals can be unpredictable. Today, I went on my lunch break to enjoy some tempura and when it finally arrived, it was soggy, saturated with grease, super heavy, with a ton of extra tempura batter dumped on top.
Having eaten the exact same dish less than a week before, I knew it was not up to par with my previous experience. The entire meal was made up of soggy batter. After three bites, I politely explained the situation to my waitress, who referred me to her indifferent, overly defensive manager. I was basically told that the quality was normal, and he insinuated that I was in the wrong. Please keep in mind that I have NEVER in my life sent food back.
I was really surprised at his cavalier attitude and failure to listen. Only after several polite attempts on my part to explain that there was something wrong did he at last offer to replace the uneaten meal with something else.
I am really disappointed. I was a fan of this unique restaurant, and have spent a ton of money there. To be treated like I was being unreasonable or childishly picky was really off-putting. Suffice it to say, after such rudeness I will not be returning.
Good sushi, nice place – I eat at Sinju at least once a week. The sushi rolls and nigiri are very good, tempura is great, tofu items are borderline great (even for a meat eater like me).
The music they play is the worst ever. I don't mean a little bad. I mean terrible, like "nails on a chalk board", "cat caught its tail in a meat grinder" bad. It's some sub-par, home-spun, karaoke-grade reggae that never seems to end.
But, the sushi is really enjoyable and the servers are all very, very friendly. It's nice to get good service with a big smile.
Horrible environment, no one speaks english.. – our waitress didn't know any english and didn't even offer her name, the boss of the place looked as if he was angry and started to yell@our server in some other language in front of our family dinner! it was a nice ambiance, but horrible overpriced food and have only heard bad things from this moment forward. will never go back again..
if the manager/boss can't help us or be nice then why should the server have to speak english?!
