First and Last Time Going... – After hearing great things about this establishment, I decided to take my toddler in for some playtime. When we arrived the place was packed and HOT. Every table was in use with one family ahead of us so we waited for 20 minutes to get a table which I was OK with because they had a guitarist playing music. However, from the time that we ordered to the time it took to get our food another 30 minutes had past. There were only 2 servers which wasn't nearly enough for the amount of people ther.
The waiter and waitress were fairly personable but didn't apologize for the slow service. While we waited my daughter went to the play area, but since this area only has 1 extremely old and dirty wooden train track with equally old and dirty wooden trains that she is too young to push on the track it didn't hold her interest. The one thing that we both liked was the chalk board. I picked her up and we drew for a few minutes before our food arrived.
I ordered the Jr. Beef Hamburger that came with Sweet Potato Fries and a cookie. My daughter had the French Toast. Like other reviewers commented the food was sub par. The hamburger and french toast were pretty good, but the sweet potato fries were cold and stale. The chocolate chip cookie wasn't much better. Overall, I was extremely dissapointed and won't be going back.
Go for the Atmosphere, not for the food.
PB & Ellies' is a wonderful concept, a kid-friendly place that serves healthy food.
While they have the atmosphere down, kids just love to go here, we have been here twice and both times were disappointed in the food.
The last time we went, we ordered a kids burrito and a monte-cristo sandwich. Our first surprise was the number of items the restaruant was "out" of. For example, No applesauce - so they had to substitute sweet potato fries on the kids burrito. We ordered the burrito with chicken - it came without. I have to say that the service was okay, no more, no less. Our waitress, aside from not getting the order correct, did not seem particularly interested in her job - perhaps we caught her at the end of her shift.
The monte cristo I orderd was two tepid pieces of soggy and lifeless wheat bread with a fat slice of fatty ham, and what looked like a slice of turkey lunchmeat. It was a very sad, sad, sandwich. The kids burrito was much better. Brown rice and black beans in a wheat tortilla.
PB&E's has a winning combination. If they put some effort in their menu and food prep, it would be a great place to go. But the two times we have gone, the quality of the food has been lacking. There is no reason that healthy food can't be good too!
Take your kids there to enjoy the atmosphere and kids menu - I would suggest that the adults eat elsewhere.
Not the greatest food... – I thought this restaurant has a great atmosphere for children, but the food was only OK. I ordered the Green eggs and ham. The whole wheat toast came unbuttered and barely toasted and there were egg shells in my scrambled green eggs. The ham was not a nice thick slice of ham like you'd expect, but 3 layers of very thin, sandwich-type ham. The potatoes were dry and not very warm or fresh. The coffee was good but the food could have been better.
I'll probably still go back and try something else on the menu because I do like the atmosphere there.
Great for hyper kids and tired Moms!! Good food and Atmosphere – Very bright and open floor plan with an inviting area for kids to play. I would like to have seen more toys for the kids and they have done away with the chalkboards (why??) for kids to write on. Maybe too much broken chalk..who knows. Service was slow though there was only one waiter working ( I say working becuase there were actually two wait staff there but one seemed to do nothing but sit on her butt drinking coffee the whole time). Food was very good, though my toast was cold (I know, lame thing to complain about). Coffee was great! Eggs were nicely cooked and bacon very good. MY friend got the Green Eggs and Ham and she enjoyed it. It was nicely noisy so if you have a screecher or an otherwise noisy kid this place is perfect.
Great Food & Fun for Kids! – My family loves this place! My son is 14 months, and he really enjoys the food, the toys and environment. The play area is in the center of the restaurant, so I can see my son play from our table. There are toys and games for all ages of children, and they offer a good selection of tasty & healthy dishes for the whole family. The ratio of servers to guests is very good, and it is obvious everyone is working hard to make the experience enjoyable. I live in West Linn but find it worthwhile to make the drive. If you are a parent with younger children, you have to check it out!
Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors – Kid-themed restaurant offers everything from organic peanut butter sandwiches to jelly-glazed ribs. Parents chat while kids frolic in the play area.
