fantastic place, but not for pedestrians – have been going to this place for many, many years. it is a unique cultural enclave, a best kept secret in this whirpool of a metropolis that New York is.

you come here if you can appreciate opera, classical music, home like environment, a place to gather with friends, have a good laugh between the numbers, raise a glass and test your knowledge of Puccini.

dont come here if you are a snob, or have to keep talking while you have a most beautiful tenor perform his magic on the stage, or want a waiter to kiss your feet.

Loving Leopoldo, loving the singers, loving the people who have been coming there for years.

Rachael Ray doesn't know good food! – We decided to make reservations at Caffe Taci after hearing Rachael Ray say that it was her favorite restaurant in NYC. I admit that the novelty of listening to opera while dining interested me, but I was skeptical about the quality of food. My skepticism was warranted. I do not recommend this place if you are looking for great Italian food; there are so many other wonderful restaurants in this city to try (and I say this because I saw a lot of tourists there, and it was a shame to see them waste their time at a place with mediocre food). The opera singers were great, but I cannot say that their talent made up for everything else that was lacking in our experience.

To illustrate this, let me explain what happened on our night there. I ordered the "famous" calamari appetizer - it was cold and not very good. My sister and I proceeded to order the sea bass dish as an entree. The fish itself was awful (my piece was discolored and really fishy tasting). My sister's piece of fish was fine, so she kept hers, but I had to send mine back. The waitress gave me attitude because she saw that my sister was keeping hers, and then the manager came to the table to argue with me about my having sent the fish back, saying that they had been serving it all night without complaints. I explained that I had probably just received a bad piece of fish, which happens, but at that point I was so irritated I didn't even ask for a replacement dish. To top it off, at the end of the night the singers come around to each table with a basket soliciting money, so you are pretty much obligated to tip them even after having spent $40+/person for bad food.

Overall, if you are in the mood to listen to talented opera singers, Caffe Taci may be the place for you (though I suggest spending the $30 min. on drinks and dessert - not dinner). If you are looking for a good meal and overall dining experience, pass on this place.

Great opera – My friend and I came here on a Friday night and had a great time. The food was good and the opera was great....The service was good as well.

The opera will make you swoon! – The music was soooo beautiful!! The food, however, was mediocre. This spot could truly be a wonderful date spot with a tad more attention from the management on making the spot a bit more "choice" (e.g., a broader wine list, tea from suppliers that we may not find at the corner grocery store, heated desserts (so that we can at least imagine that it's been freshly baked...)).

The opera was breathtaking and nearly balanced out the rest of the shortfalls. Stepping up the food and service would send this restaurant into the annals of New York history and would possibly attract some wealthy patrons for this amazing talent.

Very bad service – I went to Taci with three friends. At first, I thought it was a good place. It could not be better to have some wine with some friends while listening to opera. However, the service we received from the waiter disgust me. He was not only inattentive, but also rude. He never refilled the water in our glasses. He never put on a smile on his face. His tone was completely indifferent. We ordered another bottle of wine after we finished the first one. He dared to mock us when he took back the wine menu, saying: would you like a third one? I had never been treated like this in a restaurant. And then ironically, he put tips on our bill. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone.

I left in tears... – I want to let you know that I had the worst dining experience of my life at your restaurant! The waiter literally said "I sh*t on Yugoslavians" because he was from Albania and my father asked him if he was from Yugoslavia in trying to guess his accent. Both my mother and I ordered the PETRUZZELLI. We both got the special instead in error and the clams were ice cold!!!! When I tried to send it back Leopoldo was VERY rude and wouldn't take it back! He said that Italians sometimes like to add to dishes. Well, I don't appreciate that. I got something I didn't order. I would have never ordered clam since I am allergic to them! This was the night of my birthday and we all left very very upset! The bill came to around 218. and the waiter had the nerve to add the tip. Not only will I never come to you establishment again, I will make sure everyone I know in Manhattan knows not to go there. I'm also writing a letter to the Rachel Ray show to let her know what happened! The whole night was embarrassing to my other three guests!

Romantic Italian Caffe – This is the place you want to visit when you are in a romantic relationship or with an intimate close friend. The atmosphere is so sweet and cozy. Very European. The most amazing huge windows (especially wonderful during a rain or snow storm). The wait staff in truely nice and very helpful-they will remember you a discreet way. The expresso, caffes and of course all the food is extremely good (the owner's mother is the chef). The round marble tables and miss and match chairs give it unique & romantic character. The only down side there could be a few loud NYU students. Hopefully more quiet romantics will discover this unique Greenich Village caffe and give it the atmosphere it truely warrants.

Worth a try – The traditional Italian items are great - cheap and served in a cozy setting. Perfectly al dente pasta, not drowned in sauce -- generous portions. We also ordered a hamburger, which was a tad daring - the rest of the menu is clearly Italian. Although not served medium (closer to well-done), it tasted fresh and as if homemade. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and will be going back for the desserts ....

Great Value! – My family and I went to this restaurant on a whim- we weren't sure what to expect. The food ended up wonderful. The sause was delicious. I ordered chicken parm, and it has to be the most tender chicken ever! The service was nice. However, if I were to chage anything, it would be the decor. It was just a little too drab for a Caffe. This place attracts NYU students, and locals- who know that they are getting a great deal. All in all, it was a great time, good food, oh- and excellent dessert! Chocolate lovers: try the mud cake!
