Rip off for crappy work – Went to Sprout, had my hair conditioned twice instead of shampooed. My hair looked nasty with the excessive conditioning product and the hair stylist ignored it, tried to spritz some water on it but it looked like they smothered Crisco on my hair.
The haircut cost $50+
It was a HUGE waste of money and time to go there. Total rip off and terrible customer service that problem with shampoo was ignored.
What a horrible place! – Organic?? These are a bunch of fakes, who say that they are for the earth and not harming yourself with chemicals, when the owner has more tatoo's than bare skin. Does she think shoving dye under your skin rank as organic? My hair stinks...literally, and they didn't listen to a word I said of what I wanted. Save yourself a lot of money and go to a REAL hair salon. Tabatha would laugh you out of business.....I am more organic than you will ever profess to be. A total sham.
A beautiful cut for me – I got the haircut I've been dreaming about since 2003 from Holly today. She was fastidious and meticulous and a real Baltimore girl, through and through. She rocks and really knows what she's doing. Beautiful cut in a beautiful place.
Horrible Expereince.. Where do I begin? . Arrogant Stylists.. Expensive.. No consultation – I had a similar experience as some of the other reviewers about Sprout. They did not consult with me, just started cutting my hair and coloring it. I asked questions but it almost seemed like I was bothering them by asking. No customer service at all. They almost act as if you should be so worthy to go to them to get your hair cut and colored. Never again.
Terrible color experience – Having just moved to the neighborhood, I thought I would try an Organic salon, which is inline with my philosophy about beauty products. I had bleach blonde hair, which was really really bright when I walked into the salon, and wanted to step down to a sandy brown. I choose the color from the swatch book, along with my stylist, which was NOT an unreasonable color (some people want to go from black to blonde or blonde to bright red with highlights which is not possible in one sitting).Anyway, despite my pick being totally do-able my hair turned grey because it was not left on to develop. The stylist meanwhile was going on and on about how she trained in L.A. at Paul Mitchell studios and how she knew all this edgy techniques, and blah blah= I was not impressed because my hair was mother (insert obsenity) gray. Seriously? I am in my young twenties, I want to look hot honestly, and I had gray hair. The stylist realized the color looked like something out of a $3.99 Walmart special and tried to save it, to no avail. Oh, then charged me 200$ which I paid (because I am clearly a pushover).
If you want to change your color and pay a reasonable price, go elsewhere.
FABULOUS color & cut from Holly! – I am the type of person who is never satisfied with her hair, and I am constantly changing styles. For the first time in my life, I've found a hairstylist who makes me happy with my hair that I'm not changing it anymore. I was recommended to Holly at Sprout and have never looked back!
The coloring is all organic. Now, I'm not a very "Earthy" person, but here's what I *can* see from that: the color lasts longer, fades out more evenly, smells better, and my hair feels WONDERFUL.
As for the cut, I mean it when I say that no one beats Holly! She's INCREDIBLY precise and will not let you leave until you're 100% happy. (She's kept me in the salon after it has closed before, just to make sure everything looked great!!!) Even if you go to her for a bang-trim, you'll be in the chair for a while, and come out feeling like a million dollars.
I've heard some people complain about the price. I think it's accurate, though, in that you get what you pay for. If you want a 2-inch trim off of your perfectly straight bob, then by all means, go to Hair Cuttery. If you want a top-of-the-line color and cut job in Baltimore City, go to Sprout!
Expert color and styling at Sprout – I recently had highlights, a cut and blow-dry at Sprout for the first time and am thrilled! Naomi was my stylist, and she certainly captured the "look" of the photo of the hairstyle I had brought as a guide. I felt I was in the hands of a pro...she was an expert with the color application (base color and highlights went more quickly than I've experienced elsewhere, but without the smears on my neck and face I've experienced elsewhere), and she was meticulous in her styling, taking time to "finish" the cut after it was dry with some final snips. It was also a bonus not to be exposed to harsh chemical odors at the salon. I'm getting lots of compliments at work on my hair...and I'm recommending Naomi and Sprout!
Not worth it... – I live really close to the salon, so I thought that I would give it a try. I don't mind spending money on a haircut...I have long hair and only get it cut a few times a year. I got an appointment with the owner, Rachael. I have curly hair and she was recommended for curly hair. Since I had never gone to see her before, I assumed that she would want to see what my hair looks like dry. She didn't see me until after I had been washed and didn't really have much of a consultation with me. The cut seemed fine, I guess, but then her next client arrived before she finished. She seemed surprised that I wanted a blowdry...apparently she doesn't really do that. What? So she gave me over to an assistant who had never given a blowdry before. After all the product that was sprayed into my hair, 2 spritzes per tiny section and the not very good blowdry, Rachael used a razor! I have never had a razor used on my hair...a bad idea for curls. So for $80, I got an average haircut and a bad, greasy blowdry. She is the owner so at least I didn't have to tip.
Saved my wedding...Rachel is the best! – I've known Rachel as a social acquaintance for a couple of years. Never did I dream that she would be the ONLY reason I looked good for my wedding. Just two months prior to the big day, my groom had a stroke, leaving him with a major visual impairment. Our world was turned upside down. Trying to get all the details done for the wedding seemed impossible.
The week before the wedding SHE CALLED ME to let me know that she had some time and could cut and color my hair. It was the last thing on my mind at that moment.
The day of the wedding, she came to my house to do my makeup and hair. I was late meeting her by at least a half hour and she waited on my front porch. I didn't even reallly have appropriate make-up. She had everything and even figured out how to do my hair when I would be putting on a motorcycle helmet right afterward. And did this for free! Obviously, she is a great friend now.
I used to live in DC and NYC and paid stupid amounts of money to stylists who had their own ideas about my hair. I recall in DC one very famous gentlemen stylist who did me the favor of cutting/coloring my hair for $180. I hated it. Rachel and Sprout are about 1/2 of DC prices. That just lets me me give her better tips. The other reviewers here who have complained about their cuts or color probably don't communicate well. It takes time for a new stylist to learn your preferences.
Sorry for the reviewer who thinks it's more economical or environmentally-friendly to fly to LA or NYC. Guess she just doesn't get it.
Great cuts and Really Good Color – I've spent 9 years in Baltimore trying to find a place that can give an excellent cut (one that flows whether I style or not) and subtle color that blends for me (and avoids those awful chemicals.
Rachel's cuts at Sprout are the best I've ever had - and I frequently get compliments and requests for her info as I'm out and about. And I really like that the color she uses is healthy - none of that nasty chemical color.
BTW, i love her Sprout oil =Earth, it smells fabulous.
Everyone at Sprout is friendly and warm - not intimidating at all. Love this place - I have to move from Baltimore and I'm going to time my trips back here in order to keep going to Rachel.
