Best pancakes I've ever had – I live in the neighborhood so was excited to see a breakfast place I could walk to but after seeing the reviews I had rather low expectations.
I am happy to report having a great experience with both the service and the food. I have been three times for breakfast in the last three weeks, both on the weekend and during the week. Both my boyfriend and I agreed the pancakes were the best we?ve ever had (we tried blueberry and banana walnut). Omelets are above average. Garden Scramble is awesome. I?ve never had to wait to be seated and have no complaints about the service.
HORRIBLE SERVICE - mediocre food. not recommended – wow. my experience at the denver ave. cup & saucer this morning has finally compelled me to become a citysearch member to post a review. we have been there at least 15-20 times in spite of the horrible service and mediocre food. actually, there are two good waitresses and the rest act like it's a priveledge to have them wait on you. so, my husband and i went in this morning with our 20 month old because the little one was dying for some pancakes. there was a guy waiting tables that we've never seen there before. he said nothing to us when we walked in (we were the first ones there at 8AM). the lights weren't even on. as he finally brought us our menus (lights are still off) my son looked at him with big smile on his face and said "car!" This a** waiter looked at my son and directly says "i am a waiter, NOT a car." He wasn't being funny about it - he was being mean. i said "excuse me?" he said "he called me a car." it was as if he was tattling on my son. i said "no he didn't, he is telling you about the car he just saw out the window." as the waiter set down our water i noticed his hands were FILTHY - covered in dirt, tons of dirt under his nails, etc. as if they hadn't been washed in weeks. my husband and I would have left except our son was starving and needed to eat. we finally placed our order and suggested that perhaps he should turn on the retaurant lights since it was after 8:15AM. we got our food - one of our pancakes wasn't cooked all the way and he forgot to place the order for my bacon. i was also not offered a coffee refill during the entire 45 minutes we were there. we officially hate this place and will never go back. we were so excited when it opened and now we'll definitely drive the ten minutes for the superior food and service at the tin shed. if this cup & saucer location wants to stay in business, they need to SERIOUSLY need to rethink who they hire for their wait staff.
Good for the neighborhood, but not for service – I can't tell you how excited we were when we saw the new Cup & Saucer in our neighborhood! Good Ol Kenton needed more restaurants and it's just across the park. Sweet! We went when it first opened and ran into a couple of friends who had already been waiting for 30 minutes. Apparently while they were waiting some lady came in with her little one and was seated right away. The food had to be good to wait so long and deal with that-right? Not so much. I felt guilty cheating on our usual 'hood spot-Kenton Station right across the street...portions big enough to feed a trucker and for under $6 and no wait. But-I was supporting a business I had heard so much about (having lived in SE before) and was looking forward to our new and improved breakfast place. Big let down. Food-it's passable. The Service-SUCKED. We went back a 2nd time-happy to report no wait, sat down. We expected the quirks to ironed out by then. Wrong- forgotten about for about 10 minutes and then we got coffee-10 minutes later, cream came for the coffee, 5-10 minutes later order was taken. Our eggs were super greasy. Upon leaving we saw the sign for help needed in the kitchen, so we felt bad and said we'd try again later-much later.
We've gone back once-this time for dinner only to not be greeted (there were 2 people working and 3 tables filled with customers). We sat ourselves, watching the waitress flirt with these guys at the counter. Given our past experience, we gave her 10 minutes on the clock to take our order. The Thai place just opened up next door so we figured we had an out. We ended up leaving and on our way out we saw another couple who were obviously T'd off too-they had waters on their table and menus and must have been waiting longer than us.
I have never walked out of a restaurant before...and I don't plan on walking into this one for some time.
