Chef David Myers French bistro restaurant with Moules Frites, Boeuf Bourguignon, Tartare De Boeuf. Reminds me of my summer in Paris. Good place to go on a date.
Go for the burger. It's gigantic, decadent and so so awesome.
Big fat juicy burger for lunch and dinner. SO YUMMY!
Good spot for dinner, but I recommend going for happy hour. Sit at the bar for bits and great priced cocktails.
over-rated, great ambiance, food not so much – Full caveat- people I know and trust love Comme Ca, but my experience was far from fabulous. The ambiance and service were first rate. Our waitress was attentive and apologetic when some of the food came out cold. It is loud, but this can be a pro or con depending upon your mood. Loud has the potential to be rip roaring fun or romantic or a pain if you have more than 3 people dining with you.
The food was the real disappointment- my salmon tartar tasted like tuna fish salad and my scallops managed to be both bland and spicy at once and primarily tasted like peppered white fish. My mother-in-law's halibut was also bland and cold. My in-laws did love their Roasted Beef Marrow And Oxtail Jam and the creamless creamed corn special side was one of the best I ever tasted.
All in all, a big disappointment though. I loved Sona and expected at least one of my two courses to inspire...
Food very mediocre – The food for their brunch is mediocre. Their service is horrendous. They should stop hiring wanna be actors as servers. Or at least train them on how to serve the customers. Of all your choices in los angeles, do not pick this one.
Horrible service – Do not eat here. It has the most horrible service.
GREAT SERVICE, GREAT FOOD, GREAT GREAT DRINKS, GREAT ATMOSPHERE!!!!! – My fiance and I went in last minute on a Saturday night and we had the best experience. It all starts with the great drinks at the bar while waiting for your table. We got seated actually very close to the people next to us and ended up just joining tables for an impromptu double date!
Barrett is exceptional!!!! His service, attitude, and recommendations were all spot on and he truly made this dining night an experience to always remember.
The food was great, but honestly Barrett's service was the winner of the night.
Go and let the fanciful cocktails delight you into an evening of fun and fulfillment!
Heavy French Food! – If you don't mind the loud noise that bounces off the walls...then this is the place to eat, drink, and enjoy good French food. The bone marrow is a must! The Mussels are excellent.!..Our entire party had a wonderful meal...buttery scallops....fresh whole fish....and rich lamb shank....if you can handle the cholestol it's well worth going down this gluttonous road...only prob....the Wine List Is Limited!! not enough selections and not too many great wines for a location like this....i brought my own bottle and the wanted a $30.00 corkage fee!! Ridiculous.!....all in all excellent service....great staff....warm and welcoming...not pretentious at all! Definitely Going Back!
I HEART Comme Ca – I really do! Def reccomend reservations because it is ALWAYS super busy but the staff is very cool they know the menu and always give me wonderful reccomendations. I think the most unique part of Comme Ca are the cocktails. There is literally nothing like them in Los Angeles. I sometimes grab after work drinks there with the ladies, just sit at the bar. The bartenders are so sweet and obviously have mastered their skill. Fascinating to watch them tend bar, they are down right passionate about it! Very cool!
bad service!!!!!!!!!! worse food!!!!!!!!!! – Had dinner the other night. i do not understand all the hype. the place is a beautiful space. you want to be in there. but wow our food was not great. our steak was over cook. the duck confit was dry. the salad over dress. our server was scatter at best.
Don't Bother – I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant, but was disappointed with it in the end. The $14 cocktails were painfully small and the absence of a bread plate and/or butter knife is just annoying. I had the escargot to start - they were actually quite exceptional - no complaints there. Had the duck confit for my entree. Really bad. The duck was prepared perfectly, but the spatzle was unbelievably dry and there was an overwhelming amount of cranberry (or some dried fruit?) which overpowered the whole dish. The tart tatin was fine. My date had the chocolate bread pudding for dessert. No mention of the fact that it was filled with banana - she couldn't get through it. Another expensive, sub-par LA restaurant. The plastic chairs are a drag too.
AVOID. For the money, worst burger in town. – After numerous posts re: the burger and food over all at Comme Ca, I tried it for lunch.
Not my kind of room. Stark black and white interior. stainless steel bar, flat metal barstools, and I really don't like the shiny plastic chairs.
When I was seated I was presented with a warm mini baguette wrapped in brown paper and a small ramekin of hard cold butter. No bread plates.
Iced tea arrived cloudy, below average.
First the soup. It looked very nice in a traditional semi-spherical white bowl with plenty of cheese melted down the sides. Little flavor. Poor bread -odd texture, stale, not good. Not much onion. No more than a spoon full of onion inside. Waited for my waiter. A buss boy offered to take it away, but I wanted to show it to my waiter. The Waiter asked me how my soup was and I told him it was disappointing. He took it away and very graciously apologized.
The burger came next. Under the shiny bun was a heap of shredded lettuce mixed with a ton of mayo. It covered the top of the burger and most of one side and ran down into the fries. I scrapped most of this off. The meat was perfectly cooked, very juicy and totally void of any hint of seasoning. A thoroughly bland sandwich it was basically a mayo flavored cheeseburger. The bun did not make it thorough the meal with out falling apart, and I eat fast when I'm by myself.
The burger was served with fries, too bad they were a disappointment also. Very dark, no fluffy goodness inside, horribly under seasoned. Not a trace of salt,Oh well, at least they are consistent.
Maybe I don't get "it". It's just not my kind of place. I found the interior bland, stark, loud and uninviting. Their culinary aesthetic matches their decor.
I was not very luck with my choice! – my husband and I took two out of town relatives to commeca last night. I had heard about the place from friends and read a review. I figured it will be pretty good, something like anisste in Santa Monica, a true brasserie. We had made reservations for seven P.M. and I must admit we got seated right away at a not very desirable table. There were probabley five other occupied tables at the time!!!! There were two warm small baguettes on the table which were impossible to cut, since they had left blunt knives at the table. I ordered the riccotta tortelini, my husband the scallops, our two guests the free range chicken breast. When my huge plate with seven or eight tortelinies arrieved, I honestly thought I had ordered from the apetizer menu!! It is a good thing my husband had ordered an order of french fries(it being a fench restaurant and all that) or else I would have gone home hungry. When their plates arrived I truely felt embarrased. Those must have been the smallest chicken breast portions I had ever seen in my life.
Maybe ten years ago huge plate with smallish portions and baby carrots, zuccini,etc.. were fashionable at expensive restaurants, but I thought the trends had changed. Not at Commeca appatrently. I am a pasta lover, but my tortelini was mediocre and insufficient. The scallops were very rich and rubbery. Service was very poor. Waiters were unattentive, our guest had to wave at them for a while for fresh ground pepper and mustard We orderd lemon tart and apple tart tatan for dessert. Lemon tart was o.k. but the tart a tan was a piece of tough dough, one slice of caramelized apple, and a scoop of ice cream; all seperate. The carbonated water I orderd for us cost us seven dollars per glass!!!! This restaurant is obviously overrated, offers inadequate service, and very mediocre food andvery expensive. I would deffinitely choose a different eatery for my next out of town visitors.
THE MIX DRINKS ARE MADE FROM SCRATCH, THAT'S WHY IT TAKES SO LONG KIDS – My fav French Resto in LA. Inventive menu with great brasserie staples. This is real food thatdoesnt need a designer space to make up for it like most LA restaurants. I love this place. Yes, the drinks take forever but they are MADE FROM SCRATCH like your meal. A wiskey sour actually involves making the sour mix from scratch etc etc. If you're not happy you're welcome to go get a Mudslide at TGI Friday's.
