Great Steak – My fiance and I traveled from Clear Lake to check out The Hideaway's Steak Night. We were NOT disappointed. The steak and loaded baked potato were fabulous. My only grip was that the salad was something I would have gotten at summer camp. It was served in a styrofoam bowl and it tasted as if it had been sitting out for awhile. If they took the salad out of the equation, it would still be a great deal and worth going back for. BONUS: We got to hear a great cover band with a small crowd. Check it out for yourself!
Bad Service? – After reading the other reviews, it confirms my thoughts so I will share. I think the bartenders here spend their time flirting way too much to the other men in the establishment (which is probably why your service was bad to begin with!). One, named Tina, needs to remember that married men go to this location and she needs to behave herself or she will find herself in lots of bad situations, if she hasn't already. I watched her personally flirting with one male at the bar, give him drinks after telling him they were on the house, and watching the poor fool get so drunk that he had to be carried out the door by a friend of his. Bad. Just bad. Doesn't matter who is in charge there at the time, this is not okay or say anything at all for the establishment. The poor judgement on the part of the baristas and waitresses create a environment not suitable for females unless they are that type of person as well and looking for men who are either old, drunk, or taken.
Maybe a bad night? – A buddy and I visited this place on a Tuesday night (5/4/10), which is their $12 Steak special day. At first, we had a kind waitress stop by and got our drink order when we waited for about 4 minutes after we sat down. Althoug she was not our waitress, she was nice enough to take the drink order for our assigned waitress. Our assigned waitress seemed....stressed, but the place was not very crowded (yet), because we got there right about 7. So then we got our drinks, after 10 minutes, I had to get our waitress to get our steak order. She gives us this paper to fill out the order, took her a long time to come back to pick up the form, so I had to walk up to her to give it to her. All in all, it took 1 hour for our food to come out, and in between she never stopped by to ask if we wanted something else to drink or give us a status on the food. So when the food came out, it wasn't great, besides the baked potato. They even forgot to put on our salad dressing. Steak was ok for me, but my buddy barely touched his. So even when we finished eating, which didn't take too long. It took forever for her to stop by to give us our check....so I had to go to her to get the check. Granted the place was not too "packed", it was busy, with only 3 waitresses for a hole in the wall type of bar, because of the service and experience, I give it 1 star and probably will not visit again any time soon. Maybe in a year I'll give this place another chance.
Cheap prices, and cheap everywhere else – Went for steaks with a friend and the steak was good, unfortunately the service was not. They are constantly out of stock on draft beers and don't bother going there for drinks with the girls because the creepy old men are like vultures and they won't leave you alone.
Stay Away! – Don't waste your time here. The food is alright for the price, but the kitchen doesn't seem too clean. They have friendly bar tenders, but the wait staff is horrible. Management doesn't seem to have a clue as far as what type of bar they want to be. Sometimes they have bands, but most of the time they don't. When they do, it is usually just the same couple bands over and over. If you do decided to take the chance and go there, hide your valuables, apparently there have been several cars broken into in the parking lot.
Best Live blues in town – I've been going to The Hideaway for years and love it just like an old friend. They feature THE BEST blues bands in Houston and throw that together with a come as you are atmosphere and I guarantee you won't want to hang out anywhere else. Mark May is THE BEST!!!
Editorial Review – Grab a drink and a bite, watch the game, catch a band and play a game of pool at this casual west-side tavern.
