I wish I would had gone to another place – if you want to pay $100 dollars for lunch among 4 people who shared to small pizzas, 2 salads, and 2 glasses of wine (one beer) then this is the place for you. $9 for a glass of wine glass that was barely a 1/4 full and not even a thank you when we left by the server.....too bad. I will never be return
Lovely Place that Has A Bit of Everything – I had a great time there recently. The head waiter was very nice and knowledgeable. He had been there for a year and half. The new waitress was less impressive because it was her second day on the job. The food was less French than American, but totally acceptable. I had a salmon burger and some wine and my dear cute friend had Mahi Mahi. I am very content with VIEW and the food. It is probably not the place to go if you want to savor formal French cuisine, but the whole package is unbeatable. In the end, it is not what you are eating that matters, it is whom you are eating with that counts the most.
AWFUL – The service, food and ambience is awful here, don't waste your money. The chef doesn't look as though
she cared what she was doing. The onion soup was mushy, strange tasting and appeared to be reheated! The haricot verts were luke warm. The halibut was okay though. The bread was stale. The hostess was eating her dinner at the area where everyone elses food came out from! All in all, a waste of money, I would not recommend anyone this restaurant and we came away feeling rather low and cheated :-(
AVOID -OMG the other reviews on service are correct! they are TERRIBLE! – I usually never write reviews but the service here was so bad today I signed up on citysearch just to write this review. I'm typically the person that is "too nice" and whenever service for anything is bad I figure the person is just having a bad day. The bad service here extends to multiple people.
I walked up to the patio door at quarter to 5pm. No one was seated in the restaurant and 2 tables were occupied on the patio, a pair of men at each. A girl came to seat me from the restaurant and I explained I was hungry but just wanted something light - the onion soup and dessert of the day. She said that was fine and asked if I needed a menu and I said no, just those two items would be great. She brought me water and a napkin. 15min later I ask the only server I'd seen who had been helping the men at the 2 other tables (I guess the girl was the hostess) if I could at least get the dessert and he was surprised and asked what I ordered and with whom. I told him and he went to get her - she forgot to put in my order! Even better, though sincere, he said he was sorry he "didn't see me sitting there". WOW. I am the ONLY female occupying 1 of 3 tables in the patio &restaurant. I also have a large BABY STROLLER and I'm wearing a CHARTREUSE sweater; but he didn't see me.
Once I got the soup (I cancelled the dessert) she came by to ask if I wanted more bread. I thought she must've meant in my soup, I said I was fine and no. Then I realized she was suppose to have brought me bread BEFORE the meal - she forgot that too!
Oddly the men and subsequent couples that arrived before I left seemed to be receiving plenty of attention from the server. My husband ate here a month ago and he had great service. Perhaps they just discriminate against single women? But the other reviews indicate otherwise;
Given how inept the employees are when it's not busy, I can only imagine how many orders are forgotten and people ignored when it is busy.
The service here is TERRIBLE! – I have to go with the majority on this one, the service here is TERRIBLE. This past Sunday I took my family here for Father's day. We had a misunderstanding with the order and the manager got wind of the problem and came over to tell us that we were wrong, not the restaurant. We dine out for dinner about 4-5 times per week. NEVER have I encountered such a rude and obnoxious employee at a restaurant, especially given this was the manager. He just laughed and said, no you are wrong and I am right. I tried to reason with him for a few minutes, after I realized he was a pompous idiot that was unable to listen to the customer, I asked him for the check, we paid and left. Beyond the manager, the service itself was really slow and bad, plan for an 2 hour lunch.... About 30 minutes of that will be sitting at a table with no drinks or food, just everyone ignoring you. At first I thought it was us, but when looking around, it was every table in the place. I really want this place to get new management or go bankrupt soon, reason being that the location is great and to have someone reopen it with a properly trained staff would add a great new addition to the city - food was good, the chef could stay.

We were a party of five. After entering the restaurant looking to be directed to a table. No hostess or host in sight. Finally a wait person showed us to a table.
Right from the start of ordering we all noticed that our waitress (Kristin) had an attitude as if she was inconvenienced by us.
We ordered five dishes, all had to come with mustard and ketchup on the side. Some had both others one condiment and mine had none.. We had to even ask for salt and pepper. Overall the food was OK.
After lunch one guest asked for a cappuccino .A cup without saucer, spoon or sugar arrived at the table. The guest had to ask for all the missing items which were later delivered. The unwrapped sugar was placed on the saucer, I am sure the health code does not approve of this practice.
While still in shock over the service, the bill was thrown on the table with 18% service charge added recall we were a party of five. At that time we asked for the manager and were informed that he was out. The waitress tried to tell us that this was correct. We informed her that a service charge of a party of six was appropriate that it was noted like this on the menu. In a huff she threw the bill on her service station and returned later with an revised bill.
I am sorry to say, that our lunch experience was terrible.
Worst experience ever – I have never written a restaurant review. Unfortunately, I am compelled not because of an excellent experience but because of a verbal assault by the restaurant manager at La Terrasse, Robert. I am writing the morning after our dinner and am still stinging from the experience.
The evening was cool and our table was next to the door. The manager went out the door and blocked it open causing my guests to be quite chilly. I went to the door to close it only to be verbally assaulted by the manager. I was informed that he was the manager and the door would not be closed until he was finished. The interchange did not go unnoticed by anyone in the restaurant, either staff or customers. To add insult to injury, when the manager walked by the table, he murmured a four letter expletive to make certain we understood his feelings about us. To be certain, a return visit is out of the question.
As for the food and the setting, I agree with the previous poster that it's not the greatest food particularly given the price but the setting is unique and nice. The service was spotty as there was only one waiter and bar tender for the entire restaurant. The best thing about the place has nothing to do with the people and the worst thing is the management and staff. In San Francisco, there are plenty of other places that will respect and appreciate your business.

Warm wood and stone throughout, vaulted ceilings and a wrought-iron chandelir make this restaurant feel like an updated lodge. Big windows look onto the expansive patio and, beyond, bucolic Presidio. The L-shaped space is lined by tables on one side and the open kitchen (complete with wood-burning fireplace) on the other, and a zinc-topped bar is tucked into the back corner. Service--prompt but unfriendly--leaves room for improvement.
Well-heeled diners, who run the gamut from small groups of 50-somethings to young professionals out on dates, choose from three- or five-course options for dinner. The menu, with a focus on classic French cuisine and technique, changes seasonally, but dishes can range from an aromatic truffled guinea fowl to a savory roasted squab balanced out with mandarin oranges. A more casual crowd filters in for brunch and lunch, which highlights bistro classics such as Roquefort-topped burgers on crusty Ciabatta and wine-braised lamb shanks.
Ridiculously expensive – On the web, this looked like a great casual bistro. We arrived for dinner to find an over-priced, fixed - and fairly inflexible - menu. When the food started arriving, the over-sized plates simply amplified the small portions offered. For $370 for 4 people (including one bottle of wine and tip) we should have not have left wanting a pizza. Instead of leaving sated and exultant, we left feeling cheated and angry.
While the restaurant's ambience is wonderful and the service is very efficient (how could it not be given that we were the only people eating dinner), you can do much better elsewhere if you want an expensive but satisfying meal. The owners would do well to scrap the price-fixed menu and serve food that matches the bistro ambience they have created rather than trying to compete with the City's fine dining establishments.
