poor service, ok food – Service was slow and inattentive. Steak was overcooked and I had to fish it out of plate to get microwave steak replacement. Good wine and beer selection at bar if that's what you want.

NEVER EVER AGAIN...THE worst ever~ – WORSE service that we have EVER received. We sat without our waitress taking our drink order for 30 minutes, then she took it and forgot to put it in so we sat for another 30 minutes before asking the bartender. He obviously never got it. Food took even LONGER. Orders were wrong and some people were done before others had even received their food. This is all understandable when someone is trying hard and feels bad that it is not working out, but that was SOO not the case. We received attitude from a waitress that just needed to offer a simple apology. When the bill came, we thought that maybe some issues would be addressed and possibly comp'd...no, instead we received the full bill with gratuity included!! We almost DOUBLE tipped the worst waitress ever!!! We felt that given the service that it was a bit dishonest to include the tip and not let us know. She then disappeared and we needed to hunt down another worker so that we could pay. She was no where in the restaurant??? All and all our brunch was 2.5hours long...good thing that we didnt have anything else to do!!!

If You Love Insects in your Food Eat Here! – I was having a good time and a decent meal with 3 other friends until I discovered a GIANT insect in my salad. The insect was dead, and literaly 2 inches long. Needless to say I got sick and friends couldn't finish their meals after seeing what was in my dish.

The staff was very apologetic and removed all of our meals from the bill. The manager blaimed the giant insect on their produce vendor - if that is the case it basically means he admitted that they don't wash their produce before serving it. Eat here at your own risk!!

Food and Service Slipping – I have been to Brownstone six times. The first two visits were in their very early days, not long after their opening. The food was delicious, with a great menu and the service was fantastic. The next time I went, I noticed that the menu had changed slightly and their service was lacklustre. Similarly for the fourth visit. My fifth visit was for brunch, where I had a delicious belgian waffle, however, the service was awful. Our waitress acted like we were inconveniencing her by being there and was quite rude. The last time we went was in late May, again it was for breakfast. We ordered and whilst waiting for our meals, the waitress informed us the the waffle iron had just broken (I was looking forward to another belgian waffle), so I chose the french toast. The three other meals of eggs, sausage and home fries came out cold and my french toast was dreadful. It was so undercooked that it tasted like raw egg on bread. I couldn't eat it. After having so many meals consistently slipping in quality, we decided that we would avoid Brownstone for a while.

My New Favorite Neighborhood Spot – I have eaten at the Brownstone several times and the staff is always extremely friendly and informed. I have also had almost every dish on the menu and I think the food is absolutely delicious. This place is a very welcome addition to the neighborhood which was lacking a place for adults to hang-out and socialize without someone spilling beer on them or charging them an arm and a leg. Although the food is great, this place is not stuffy at all. No one is rushing you out the door.

Worst meal in Boston – I cannot stress enough how bad my experience was. I should have realized when we were only the second group to be seated . The time between ordering dinner and recieving our meal was well over an hour and by this point we were the only group dining in the restaurant. When it finally arrived after asking our waitress numerous times when we would be recieving our meal, two of the four plates were undercooked and cold inside. We made the waitstaff aware of this and they acted as if they were being bothered by the status of our meals and we were putting them out by complaining that they were cold ( mind you we are still the only group eating in the establishment and it is now prime dining time ). As we waited for the meals to be re prepared, it took over 15 minutes for the waitress to return with the meals and by that point the other two meals had gone cold. No one felt like staying a moment longer at this point and we asked for the bill. When we asked to speak to the manager about the horrible service we had recieved, we were told the manager was off tonight. Little mistakes when recently opening are excuseable, but this was just horrendous service and attitude on the part of the waitress and chef. I would not reccomend this place to anyone.

Comfy South End Neighborhood Establishment – My wife and I live in the South End and have dined at Brownstone four times, we won't deny that they had some kinks to work out the first couple of weeks they were open, but it has now become our favorite place. On Sunday's we like to go and lounge, read our newspapers and drink mimosas. We love Wednesday nights because it's not too crowded, but it has a nice energy. They play an interesting mix of music, and ths food has always been absolutely gorgeous. The chef, Michael McEwen, is formerly of Salamander and West on Center in West Roxbury, and his cusine is inventive and creative yet still within the realm of comfort food. Most importantly, it's very affordable and the portions are huge! The wine list is interesting and they have recently started offering a bottle of wine each month that is featured as their "Exceptional value". My wife and I really like Chateau Montalena, which we have paid between $100-$150 elsewhere. Brownstone offers this bottle for the month of February at $50, less than my local liquor store! Our server was so friendly, and really went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed, and made recommendations that were really valuable instead of just suggesting the most expensive thing on the menu. The last of their furniture is still arriving, new tables were there the last time we went, and they told us the new chairs were coming this week. Overall, a great new addition to the Back Bay/South End and definitely a fun place to come home to at the end of a long day. We recommend it to our friends, and will be headed back soon for our anniversary dinner because we saw how special they made a birthday last week, and decided we wanted to celebrate in the company of friends, which is how we see many of the staff there now. Try it for yourself and see!

Bad Choice For Nice Dinner....Looks can be deceiving – When walking by this new place, it LOOKS nice. Nice lighting and furniture. But after so many downfalls, my fiance and I will never return. Here is a list of how bad this experience was:

1. Rude staff shoved through people and sat us down. A little annoying.

2. Nice waitress, but she serve me water with DIRT in it. Litterally, the glass had specs of dirt. She replaced it when I asked her to.

3. The Bass Ale I ordered had a FLY in it. In the beer head was a fruit fly, dead, sitting on the glass as she served it. I pulled it out quickly, not sure at first. But after picking it up, it was!

4. After feeling dirty I went to the bathroom, which was a bad choice. The door didn't fully close, there were more fruit flies in the bathroom, the garbage can was overflowing with garbage and trash was strewn about on the floor.

5. After getting my salad with the wrong dressing, I was tired of complaining. This place just sucked.

6. The dinners - I had chicken, my fiance had haddock - the food was bland and tasteless. A true diaapointment.

7. Have pulling through, we just wanted the check and to leave. The place sooner become overbearingly hot, to the point that I had to take off my sweater. Still waiting for our waitress to get us our check. Instead, she socialized with other tables that she seemed to know outside the place. It took 10 minutes for her to return with my credit card.

8. For two drinks (one with a fly in it), two mid-level dinners and two salads, it came to $70. For what we got, what a true waste of money and time.

BEWARE. Avoid this place - they seem to fully rely on the first impression of how it looks and seem to have zero idea on how to control quality of food and service. Because they are in a busy street, I imagine they are hoping for walk by's to try it. Those people are in for a rude awakening like we were.
