Owner is RUDE – I have been to Martine's many times and have had excellent experiences until recently. Last time I was there the server took fifteen minutes to even come over to our table. No major problems after that until I asked him to wrap my dish of lobster that had over half left. I should have realized that he forgot after I needed to ask for it. When he finally brought it he told me be careful it is hot. This should have been a major clue. The next day when I opened my to go container to heat up the lobster dish there was rice in the container and nothing else. I called and complained to the owner, Martine, and was told there was nothing they could do and it was my fault. Absurd! She said she would look into it and call me back in a few days. I never received a call and will not be going back. The entree was over 30 dollars and a simple apology would have gone a long way. I would not recommend being a patron of a restaurant that does not value its customers.

Romantic spot for two. – While often crowded, the wait is worth it. The fireplace next to the bar is a welcoming spot to sip a cocktail on a winter's night. This is not a spot to come if you want to get in and out quickly. Take your time, enjoy the atmosphere, and savour the food. We like the upstairs at night and the bar side or patio tables for lunch. Try some of the specials as the chef is creative and well trained in the mixing of flavors. Save room for the desserts, too. For the price, the food is very good, but you can spend more and get better in New Hope. Try this restaurant for a great date night and go dancing at Havana, afterwards.

Extremely children-UN-friendly, poor service, mediocre food – I went to Martines Riverhouse Restaurant with my five-year old daughter after the matinee at the nearby playhouse.

The sign at the door ("We don't have high chairs or booster seats") should have tipped me off, but somehow did not.

At the entrance the maitre d?hotel informed us that they do not offer a children's menu. That was my second warning, but I chose to ignore it as well. My husband and I have heard similar statements before, but even the fanciest French restaurants in big metropolitan areas were always able to accommodate the "plain" taste of our child and prepare something she would enjoy.

Anyway, even though our waitress was very friendly, according to her, the restaurant's chef was unable to prepare any chicken or salmon entree without a sauce. Even a simple grill was out of the question. They ran out of pita at 12:15 pm, so we finally settled for a grilled cheese sandwich. I emphasized that the sandwich needed to be plain, without any sauce or flavorings. I ordered a gazpacho for myself, and we started our wait.

The view - probably the only redeeming feature of this restaurant - was very pleasing, even though I have always told myself not to pick an eating establishment for its view. The restaurant sits on the bank of the Delaware River. I enjoyed watching the boats, and my daughter had fun watching the ducks. Both boats and ducks came very handy, since we had to wait about 10 minutes for our drinks, and another 15 minutes for our food.

Needless to say, my daughter did not like her grilled cheese sandwich and, after taking one bite, made a statement that made her mother very proud, albeit speechless: "Thanks a lot for bringing it, but it tastes nothing like I have ordered". The sandwich was awful, WITH sauce and flavorings; the gazpacho was tolerable. My daughter settled for plain rolls with butter. I finished the gazpacho, we paid and left.

The experience never to be repeated...
