I will not go back. The food was okay. Overpriced. The interaction that I had with the manager/owner (not sure) was very negative. They were not willing to be fair. NOT customer oriented.
HORRIBLE!! NEVER AGAIN – Absolutely one of the worst restaurant experience ive had in a long time!!
Service is garbage - they have one waiter serving 10 tables and it took 20mins to first get us our drinks, and than even longer to take the order for food. On top of that, food was mediocre at best. Take the cheese curds off the menu if you cant do them right!
The interaction with the OWNER is what really prompted me to write this review. (this is honestly my first online review)
We had gone in with a Groupon that CLEARLY stated in print that we could use it with their Happy Hour specials. Simple Simon (our waiter) had to go ask the owner if they could even take it(also took 10 mins) only to come back and say they had changed their policy?!? WTF.
So naturally i very politely ask if we could just chat with the owner about it. After another 10 mins she comes out and is extremely rude/bitchy right from the get go. Wouldn't budge and when I nicely suggested that with their next groupon just make it more clear what it can and cannot be used with- she snapped back with "you bought this 6months ago!" and stormed off. Again - the expiration date ON THE GROUPON listed August 15! Regardless of when it was bought- it was still valid!
This is an obvious example of HORRIBLE ownership and management. Its quite clear the restaurant is struggling to keep their doors open and I DONT even wonder why. Fix your business model, Fix your food, hire new waiters, and fix the attitude! You will not dig yourself out of this whole, or expect to better your business when you arnt willing to "surprise and delight" your customers.
Message to the owner - I guarantee this place goes under within the year and its because of YOU. You will simply NEVER succeed with the type of customer service you provide. Also, lose the attitude with customers because you really come off as a total b!tch
I would never ever go back, even if it was offered to me free. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON THIS DUMP.
Awful – Major disappointment. My friends and I went there for Sunday brunch to find the selection of the food items was dismal, nothing much for vegetarians, and whatever was there was definitely not too appetizing. The service was less than mediocre and to top it off, they added a 20% gratuity to a buffet! Bad food, bad service. Would definitely not return for any meal.
A Twin Cities Treasure – Wow. I'm surprised by some of the moderate reviews for this place. My experience was incredible. The service was top notch - from the second we walked in the door we felt welcome and the staff attended to our every need. The host was especially friendly which was a nice touch.
Our server told us they had recently started a new menu recently and walked through the specials. I had eaten here once before and I've got to say the new menu is incredible. Small plate options were the route we went and they were all delicious. We tried about 4 different items and were happy with all of them.
The wine selection was top notch which was a pleasant surprise considering the lack of proper selection at many local establishments. I know my wine and I was not disappointed! A nice touch was the wine store they have on site - very reasonably priced options of the wines we sampled that night. We wound up going home with 6 bottles!
For anyone who hasn't checked out Spill the Wine I would highly recommend it. We will definitely go back again sometime soon!
Not Horrible – My experience was not very good. Primarily based on service. Our waitress seemed as if she did not have time for us, and forgot to put in our appetizer. We also had to beg for a simple refill on water. There were other little details that frustrated us as well. My thought is if you are paying $25 a plate the service should be good.
The food was good. My wife had the lamb rangoo that was really really good 4-5 stars, I had a chicken pasta dish that I could have made at home.
The ambiance was also good. With better service it would be a good date place.
DONT GO!!! – NEVER again.
My husband and I like to try new places out often in the Twin Cities area. Even with the negative reviews I have heard about, we decided to give it a try.
We had reservations for 8pm. Still had to wait 5 minutes at the door to even GET to the front desk. As we got to the hostess, she told us that they were behind and we would have to wait. We grabbed 2 wines at the bar and stood and waited for 15 min. We watched the hostess as she seated a couple that walked right in the door. I looked at her like- hello?- and she goes "Oh, have you been helped?"- YES, by YOU, 15 minutes ago! She then proceeded to seat us in the back at a puny table by the kitchen, while the couple that walked in the door with no wait got a great seat by the window. That pretty much set the tone for the night right there.
The wine was great, the food was okay, and the dessert of homemade ice cream? The NASTIEST crap I've ever had in my life. I will pretty much eat anything, and I couldnt handle more than 2 bites without gagging. We did tell the waitress our disappointment, and she said oh, must have been a bad batch. No offer for replacement, nothing. This was AFTER our first quest for the crumble was turned down because they were out.
DON'T go there unless you like to be treated like a second hand servent and have no taste buds. Or ONLY go there if you are just going to sit and have wine at the bar- they bartender was very pleasant.
Will NEVER, EVER return to this place!! – Complete disappointment. The owner booked another wedding party in the room I had a contract and deposit paid for. I discovered this four days before my event.
The owners' "business decision" was to squeeze my guests into their small, oblong lounge or their over-sized, cold loft. Neither were acceptable, but with four days notice (and multiple out-of-town guests arriving) I had no choice but to deal with this unorganized restaurant.
Yes, I was given fair discounts. I was even offered an additional $500 gift card for their mistake - but was told the next day via e-mail that the offer was "off the table" because the owner decided she had been "gracious" enough in correcting their mistakes!
Needless to say, a broken contract and broken word have left me to decide I will NEVER, EVER visit this restaurant again.
Not Worth It....Seriously Move On! – We decided to try Spill the Wine before an evening theatre performance. Parking behind the restaurant consisted of 15 stalls which were all full and the remainder of the lot (50 stalls) practically empty allocated to Grumpy's.
Restaurant has a welcoming feel upon entering. We had to wait approximately 5 minutes to be seated. We had a nice location by the front glass to view the restaurant and street.
Food entre choices are limited to 6-8 options. Don't expect any bread to be served, because there is none. No side salad either, unless you order one at $8-$11. For an entre choice at $27, you would expect either bread or a salad to be served with the meal. Food was okay, but nothing to write home about and dissappointing at this price level. We ordered an appetizer that barely fed two people. Small piece of fish, mashed potatoes, and green beans. Service was mediocre and not really excited and ethusiastic for us to be there. The wine flight was a fun way to try three different wines (1/3 glass each) for $12. Excellent wine selections.
Bottom line, for a $108 meal for two (wine flight, appetizer, and entres), Spill the Wine is overpriced and perhaps could be justified with exceptional service and atmosphere. It is simply not there. Other much better alternatives a short distance down the street.
WIll never dine here again – We went there 2 days ago and were seated in a table that was right across the front door. We were cold and miserable through our meal. Our request to move us to a different table was dismissed by the waitress. I sent an email to complain about this incident to the manager and received a rude response. Will never, ever go there again!
Fail – Seven of my friends and i went to spill the wine. They rushed us to our table which was located right next to the bar and server station in the back. One would think this location would grant us quick drink service, not true. This location only meant we were constantly fighting for space and bumped by servers in the two feet of space the servers had to work with.
As I mentioned before we were all rushed. Once we got our salads the server came back twenty minutes later and asked what was wrong with the salad because none of us had touched them. I replied we need utensils to eat. I also said the other servers we asked for utensils didn’t bring any either. The server returned with just forks and we had to distribute them ourselves. One additional comment on the salads, they were all different sizes. Once the salads were done we waited for them to be taking them away for 10 – 15 minutes after, at which time they took our forks.
Next was the main course, which just sucked and no two of the same orders were the same. Also, the food was as cold as the server. We had to send everything back. But that didn’t hardly matter because we haven’t any utensils again. The server told us everything would have to be made over because they don’t reheat anything. But when the food came back out my friend commented that he could clearly see the bite mark were he had tried it the first time, we all hoped it was his bite mark. So much for making everything over again.
All and all, the experience was bad. We were rushed, food was terrible, and the server gave the impression she was better then her job. I have severed before and found it to be a great job if done correctly and it paid for a lot college. Also, my severing experience allowed me to understand what an eating experience should be like. I spoke with the owner on the way out. From the look in his eyes I could tell he knows his restaurant sucked to. Consider re-staffing, everything.
