When a reclaimed wooden table lures you into a restaurant, you know it's gonna be good. The next time you're strolling through the West Village, stop by here and throw back a gin martini and some grilled squid. Your day will be that much better. Oh, and be sure to get a seat outside. You can judge people as they walk by while they can be jealous of you for being where you are. Perfect, huh?
Yummy - everything!!! – The food here was really fantastic. Can't say enough good things about it - our waitress was really good too. very knowledgable about the menu, made great recommendations. No pretense here at all - just good food, good service, great location.
can't wait to go back.
Decent food, few service glitches – Doesn't make my top 5 list for italian in new york or or the top 3 McNally restaurants, but not bad and at least last summer was the place to be in the village. I had a credit card issue that took a while to get sorted out but it did.
great wine and food – Went with a large group and ordered family style. We were able to sample 4 appetizers and 4 entrees and most of the deserts... excelllent!
Eh – Not a place I will return too with a date. Chairs are uncomfortable, lighting made my hot date look his age and the food wasn't anything special. Not terrible, just not special. I'll try it for lunch the next time and see if its better when the kitchen isn't so pushed. The entire meal felt like a rubber chicken, political meeting that cost too much money.
Handrolled Lemon Heaven – Morandi is simply lovely. The food is so delicious! The handrolled lemon pasta is my fave. The decor is like a european cottage...
Excellent Brunch! – We've been to brunch at Morandi three times in a 1.5 month timespan. Each time, service has been great and the food, divine. There aren't many choices on the brunch/breakfast menu but I view that as a good thing. Less dishes to make to absolute perfection. We've dined outdoors and indoors and both are great. The vibe is casual and neighborly. I can't wait to go back. I'm craving focaccia occhio di bue and their delicious sweet breads.
What happened to Jody? – After many enjoyable dinners over the past few years at Gusto. We decided to start savoring the new creation at Morandi - boy were we disappointed. After 3 visits we could not help but put up a damning review.
This place leaves a lot to be desired. Chef Jody Williams has certainly lost the magic menu she had created at Gusto. Morandi is a disgrace.
First the restaurant: Completely miscalculated decor. The chairs are mismatched - not in a quanit way, but rather it looks like they bought 4 different types of uncomfortable chairs on closeout at Furniture Liquidators Store. The faux italian country decor looks cheap - reminiscent of an Italian restaurant you would find in Binghamton, NY or Poughkeepsie - not in a good way.
The wine list is intentionally lacking of favorites - maybe to show how good they are at finding wines that no one else wants to serve. The funniest thing was that our waiter talked us out of a wine purchase and steered us to a less expensive bottle - excellent training!
The amazing thing is that most of our foodie friend love it. They are stuck in the hype maybe...
So for my third visit I told the head waiter that I was frustrated and wanted him to order for me - dazzle me. He came up with an artichoke salad which was completely bland and practically inedible and pasta with boar which lacked any originality, surprise, or gusto (no pun).
The pasta is pedestrian - boring and amateurish

The our desert could have been made at Dunkin Dougnuts.
Holy canoli – This place is the #1 reason for the recent demise of the W.Village (Centro Vinoteca is a close #2). What in the world is up with the (1) cheese factor at the door (fake suits creating an aura of exclusivity) (2) cheese factor behind the bar (is scruff part of the costume requirement) and (3) the fashion-backward clientele this place is attracting? Last night the winner was tough to pick, but it would have to be the 45+ year old woman in silver lame daisy dukes, a black halter top, a pashmina (HUH?) and an 8-year old starving boy's body. She pretty much summed up the after-9:00pm crowd. It is all laughable...and surely the owners are having a hearty chuckle all the way to the bank. I just wish they would do all of this somewhere closer to where the B&T crowd lives. The trash descending on this neighborhood is frightening. Oh and the food? A can of Chef Boyardee, jar of Cheez Whiz and Wonder Bread would be an apt substitute.
Amazing – I found my new favorite restaurant. Our staff was so attentive (and adorable)and helpful that it was a dining pleasure. The food was so amazing - we tried so many dishes to get a great tasting - artichoke salad, meatballs, rolled pasta , heirloom tomato salad with the most fresh mozzarella I've ever experienced - everything was just perfect. I literally can't wait to go back to Italy and this restaurant.
The sound levels were just right that we were able to have intimate conversations all evening. The temperature inside the restaurant was perfect and the doors were all wide open to let in the great breeze that the city had tonight.
Everything was spot on! Too bad my evening at Daniel the other night didn't even come close to this evening.
i almost had a heat stroke.... – Thursday night, party of 4. This place is ridiculous. No ac. I actually felt like i might dehydrate during the meal. Our poor waiter looked half dead in the heat. How can you not have a functioning ac in August in New York City? You know it's going to be hot outside.... What a mess. Everyone around us seemed miserable.
