A solid place to go – This was our first experience at Bluefin and we got high quality sushi and great service. I cannot say that for very many sushi places in the Jacksonville/St. Augustine area and I have been to many of them.

The Good:

The atmosphere is very nice and everything is MUCH more reasonably priced that I expected. They also have a full bar that looks like a good area for drinks (with a 5 month old, we didnt get to take advantage of that though). Our server (Nick?) was phenomenal and was very helpful without being overbearing. There are a lot of really good places to go after dinner as well-you could wind up spending your whole night out without leaving this one little area. For you non-sushi lovers, the non sushi portion of the menu was also very reasonably priced and sounded very good.

The Bad:

There is a serious lack of variety of sushi that they offer. Most of the rolls and specialty rolls are very similar-we had a hard time making our selections b/c we felt like we were choosing the same roll over and over again. Also, there was too much tempura sushi and too much Japanese mayonaise on the rolls (the white tuna nigiri even had it and it completely overpowered the taste of the fish). The other thing is the bad music that they played (which seems to be a common thing for restaurants in Jacksonville). I think that the music in a restaurant should tie in to the theme of the restaurant (like a caracas band playing in a Mexican restaurant or classical music in a very expensive high end restaurant).

Having said all that, I did like everything else about the restaurant. If they correct these few things and get better music, I think they will have an excellent sushi restaurant-one that could even make it in a major city like Atlanta (and there are very few restaurants in Jacksonville that I would say that about).
