We had our furnace maintenance check via our home warranty company. After trying to get them out here for 3 weeks, Clough Mechanical (UT) finally came out- they said they never received the email. Upon inspection on November 20th (the tech was late- showed up after 5 pm), they said it was putting out dangerous CO2 levels and they needed to shut the furnace off. It was reading 2 ppm. Their intent was to replace the furnace. After speaking with the home warranty company, they were told they needed to go through the manufacturer as it was still under the manufacturer's warranty. The home warranty company would pay for labor, but the manufacturer needed to supply the part.

We waited and waited and kept calling and asking the technician when it would be fixed. It was so cold and only getting colder (cold snap of below zero!!). He said there was no way to track the part and we'd just have to wait. After telling him there is no way anything is shipped without a tracking number, he decided to investigate a little more. Turns out the part wasn't put on a truck until after Thanksgiving weekend.

So, after doing some investigating we found 2 ppm is nothing. Less than the air in a car or even the outdoors. The average home produces 1-9 safely. We called our local fire department and they said 2 was completely safe and recommended CO2 detectors (which we had been saying we needed anyway). We bought the CO2 detectors (one for each level) and turned the furnace on. Both are reading at 0 and have been for 5 days.

Without back-up heating options (electric and gas firelplaces), our pipes surely would have froze. We finally had the part replaced two days short of four weeks of waiting. Regardless of whether it was a manufacturer issue or what, Clough NEVER once took responsibility. I heard one very short "I'm sorry" from the secretary. This was only after she asked my name, followed by "Oh crap, didn't he call you?"--very professional.

Other than one mid conversation with the secretary, we never received an apology. Not an offer to pay for a hotel room during sub-zero temperatures without a furnace. We had to continually contact them to find out what was going on (very rarely did they initiate updates). Their behavior indicated they could care less about us or our situation. THAT (and actually that is second to the fact my home was FREEZING for so long) is my biggest beef with this company. Late, stories that don't match or add up, and overall disregard for our situation will forever be attached to this companies name in my book
