Though highly gifted with a scholarship to a prestigious university, our son struggled with college failure due to learning differences and anxiety. Though admittedly pricey, we have never once doubted that every penny is worth the services that College Excel provides. The staff is excellent, knowledgeable in their respective fields and have anticipated our son's every difficulty. Our son has been treated with immense respect - never like a diagnosis. He feels lifted up by the program, giving us hope that he will be able to succeed in an academic environment. Bend is a gorgeous, welcoming city. It's a classy program giving a classy service. I recommend highly.
Our son is spending the year at College Excel after a year in which he struggled at a traditional college in the face of a learning disorder. We couldn't be more pleased. The coaches are superb, and he has made immense progress in his academics, social skills, and self-esteem. And Bend is a treat.
For kids that need the kinds of services offered by College Excel, I can't imagine a better experience. I'm confident that the benefits of this gap year will be felt by our son, not only through the remainder of college but for his entire life.
College Excel and their professional staff were instrumental in helping my daughter get back on track with her college education. After a first year of college she did not seem to fit emotionally and reverted back to a eating disorder which she battled in high school. After a long summer in an outreach program we selected college excel as an aftercare solution. The entire staff were caring and very focused on getting her back into the mainstream of college life. After 6 months the improvement was nothing short of amazing. My daughter is now a full time time student at a major university and doing extremely well. Outstanding committed people make the difference and College Excel has those attributes. I would highly recommend this staff and their program.
I couldn't disagree more with DirkWilkerson's comment. Our son attended the College Excel program from 2009 to 2010, after being unsuccessful in college due to learning and mental health issues. Sue and Jeannie have created a program that provides life and academic coaching for young adults/adolescents that made a huge difference in our son's life. Additionally, the parent coaching element of the program was crucial for us to learn how to help our son learn to take responsibility for his choices and for us to learn that we didn't need to rush in and rescue him whenever things didn't work out. Today, our son is on his own, working and supporting himself, and considers the founders and staff at College Excel to be among the most important teachers and mentors in his life.
College Excel was the best thing that happened to our family. We truly believe in the program and are so grateful to CE for helping my son grow into a productive and caring person. Thank you CE!!! Blessings to you all!
The experience my son had attending College Excel last year changed the trajectory of his life. It is staffed by a group of professional, dedicated and caring academic coaches, life coaches and tutors. He is now attending college in Bend without College Excel, living independently and performing academically. I could not recommend this program more highly.
Be wary of sending your child here – Be most way of a woman named Susan, I think, and her daughter. (a semi-haggard looking woman with blondish/gray hair and her daughter had died red hair) Both are vindictive. The program is super expensive, Jeannie is ok, but in reality it's a business they make loot on. They rent out houses at quadruple market rate for the students, which is in addition to the "tuition" for the program, which is very high, the program involves some hand holding and meetings, a life coach, they did actually have one good one but he left I hear, and a few other services. The bad taste in my mouth is from seeing how Susan and her daughter, obviously a case of nepitism, treated students in the program. I saw and spoke with several people in the program to form this opinion.
