Looks Like A Remodeled El Torito – Don't believe the hype. I'm not sure what type of people are writing positive reviews but if you're looking for a nice place with modern decor and space to breathe, keep looking. It really does lok like a painted over restaurant. Looks like they threw a splash of blue paint on the walls and spent the rest of their money on the sign out n front. Its a narrow long room with a cramped back patio. The bar in the back is literally about 4 ft. x 4 ft. The drinks are average for trendy LA bar but nothing to write home about. The pic on this site makes it look pretty cool with the movie playing on the back wall but thats just about the only conversation piece in the whole place. On a positive note, it may appeal to those lookin to have a low-key nite w/ some friends. More like an afterwork place. The crowd is calm and reserved, no low-life trash here. but no swingin hot spot for sure. The service is average. The "Liquid Kitty" crowd mite like this place, but don't expect the killer martini's. Swing through if you're loookin to wind down in a quiet place w/ some close friends. But don't fall for the super pumped up fake reviews.
cool happy hour, cheap drinks – ive been here on busy nights in the past, and im not one for big crowds so i hadnt returned. i live down the block though, and frequently walk past it. i was astounded to see the sign lit up and the door open at 7pm on a wednesday.
there was a basketball game on some smallish tvs above the bar, and about five people sitting at the bar.
bartender was cordial, and my rum and coke was only FOUR dollars! he even gave me a free shot when he made some for what appeared to be a couple regulars.
people trickled in and out over the course of an hour and a half. it was never empty and never obnoxiously busy (thankfully)
i will definitely return, so glad to have a chill bar near my apartment.
no frills hollywood, like i like it – we live down the street and stopped in for a drink saturday night. didnt know anyone and the bouncer was cordial, even though he asked us who invited us (i thought we were screwed at this point). it was a cool vibe... nothing spectacular. but some pretty girls and a nice patio. i will be back.
Wicked Time! – Loved this Place ! Went for the first time since it was red buddha and i have to say the atmosphere was sweet! Was supposed to go to Seven and there was some mix up so we took our party to Play. Seriously , it was amazin. We had no problems getting in, and the place was packed. It had a lot of cool people not Hollywood types trying to look good but real people just wanting to have a good time. Music was great aswell, really such a great atmosphere to party in. Spoke to the owner Gianni and he set i all up for us. We had our table next to the dancer pole and me and all my girls danced on the pole all night! Love this place and we will be back next Saturday!!
This is a must for anyones celebration.
GREAT PLACE TO THROW YOUR BIRTHDAY – I just threw my birthday there on Saturday night 2/23, and it was amazin! Truly truly one of the best times EVER in LA. I know this sounds repetitive but I cant stop thinking what a great time we had last nite. All my party got in with no problem at all, no hassle and no stupid Hollywood wait. We emailed in our guest list and they honoured it all with no cover. Music was excellent, they played hip hop and top 40 and ended with songs like Def leopard Pour some sugar and the whole club was singing along. It felt like I truly wasnt in a LA club and more of a welcoming party feel. I reccomend emailing them and sending in your guest list. I think the loung elooks great and I love the patio. I had never been there and heard from my friend great things and now I really feel they deserve that I write this. They bought me and my immediate girls some shots and totally looked after us. Great great night. Definitely a MUST for your birthday party.
I have NEVER been to a place so TERRIBLE!!!!! – Overall this place sucked! We went here on a Sat. night for a friend's birthday party. We read reviews on this club and they all said it was awesome and it got a 5 star rating. DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT IS WRITTEN! It is a total lie!!!! First of all, on the website it said the club opened at 9pm and to get there early because there WILL be a line. We got there about 8:45 and the door was bolted shut. So then about 10pm someone finally stumbles out of the place to open the door, and they said it will open at 10:20. We wait because we heard this club was off the hook. When they finally decide to open, there is a short line consisting maybe 20 people including our group. We get in and the place does NOT look like the pictures they post and there is NO upstairs either (and it said on the website that there was this huge VIP area upstairs). The drinks were expensive and the place remained DEAD the entire night...also the DJ was NOT friendly and wanted to play only 80's songs. He refused any of our requests to change music.
Needless to say...DO NOT GO TO THIS CLUB!!! You will be VERY disappointed if you go to this poor excuse for a Nightclub!!!!
An awesome spot without the Hollywood b.s. – Play is the kind of place where you can actually TALK to people! It's intimate enough so that it's easy to make new friends and strike up conversations. It's like a perfect combination of a bar and a club since there is a dance floor and and smoking patio. The patio's the spot to be and it's easy enough to move from one end to the other so you can mingle. The dance floor is hot too since it has the kind of flow where there will be a crowd in the center and watchers on the sidelines and the two groups just sort of seamlessly swap places whenever one needs a break from dancing.
The staff is hot (hello Mark at the door!) and my bartendress Nikki was cool as hell. I got to meet and chat with Gianni and Brad, the owners, who are really nice and want to be friendly with their guests and show them a good time (the antithesis of such stuck-up pseudo-celebrity club owners as those of that little French joint we all know and love).
A friendly, classy crowd.
This place will be around for a while because it's not a flash in the pan that has to reinvent itself every six months.
It's just good vibrations.
Down to earth and so much fun! – We went there last saturday and we had such a fun time! This place ROCKS! We threw a surprise birthday for my friend and she had the best birthday ever. Music was good , dancefloor crowded and he patio is cool. Theres a bar outside on the patio which is perfect. I would recomend this place for anyone who wants to throw a party. Were coming back next month for my sisters! They were great helping to organise our party! Definite thumbs up!!
GREAT PLACE TO THROW YORU BIRTHDAY – I just threw my birthday party there and it was fantastic! I held it on a Saturday night and everyone there were so friendly and helped arrange it and make it a great night. All my friends had NO problems getting in unlike other clubs they really helped to see they all got in which was my main concern. DJ was good , drink prices are average for the area. Patio was so cool to hang out on. Door guy was handsome. Definitely a great place and I told them I would reccomend it and thats what i am doing! Thanks alot!
I live across the street from this club, so I hear and see the crowd nightly.
If you're looking for a trashier, louder, and more obnoxious crowd -- this is your joint! Everyone gets in. and the dudes and chicks leaving really are a scene themselves.
If you're in the neighborhood, I'd recommend you walk a few blocks and go to King King.
