Highland Perk Coffee Shop Art Gallery Taco Stand Wine Bar? – This place suffers from major identity issues. We waited with high hopes for "Highland Perk" to open a couple of years ago only to be disappointed again and again. The interior is over the top and the music was equally loud and horrible. Employees were lacking customer service and barista skills but to their credit their boss was a complete a$$hole. On more than one occasion I saw the owner talking down to his employees IN FRONT of myself and other customers. In less than a year's time this business has shifted direction and names so many times it's hard to keep up with them. It's gone from an early morning coffee house to a wine bar serving tacos? I don't understand the positive reviews below. A search for "Highland Perk" (former name) will give a more accurate review of what this business and it's owners are truly like.

Growing pains – I'm thrilled that a place like La Casa Blue finally exists in the Highland Park area, and I can tell the owners put tons of work into it. The place has been beautifully restored and there is nice art on the walls and a patio out back. But it seems like it's still suffering from growing pains - every time I go, there is a different menu. I'm glad to see that they no longer serve burgers (a few months ago the whole place smelled like fried food) but I'm still not crazy about the food options. The pastries and desserts are often stale and dry. Disappointing. A nice place like this should be selling yummy goods from a bakery in South Pasadena. I hope that the owners talk to a restaurant consultant and get a strong and steady menu of food and drinks. Consistency is important. Oh, and the bulk coffee beans are VERY expensive. Up to $16 a pound. This is too much! Also, I'm overwhelmed by all the TVs. There are 3 different ones as well as a projector with a big screen. Sometimes there are 3-4 different shows on at once, with no volume. I don't know where to focus! And what's the point of watching if you can't hear anything? Last thing- the patio is nicely decorated and very relaxing. However, it is cluttered with low tables that no one can sit at, and there are too few chairs. The area is big but can probably only seat about 10 people because of the weird setup.

I'll keep going back, but I hope all the kinks get worked out soon!

why so early... – First of all I do have to say that the last time I went was a couple month ago. I like the place it's cute and the owner is very pleasant. You kind of have to go a little early to get parking. I think the only thing I did'nt like was that they closed so early. 10 pm and you feel like you had to leave because they start to pick everything up at about 9:15. Other than that I'm very happy that Highland Park is growing. And that people are taking notice and investing their $.

This Beer and W Bar / coffeehouse is turning Highland Park into the new Silver Lake. – My first time to this Bar / Restaurant / coffeehouse cheep-but-swanky joint was also my first time ever hearing about Highland Park. I was thinking Starbucks (yuck!), but the coffeehouse name really fooled me. It's really a Beer & wine bar & club house, with big couches and lots of edgy provocative art on the walls. We told the owner that we were moving into a new house and missing the foot ball game, so since we bought two microbrew beers and a glass of killer glass of white sangria & ginger Ale, he turned on the 9 by 6 foot wall projector on direct TV satellite receiver. Long Story short, we sat there for 3 hours watching the game, eating a really great Argentine steak & Sausage Tappa, surfing the internet with the free wi-fi and then we had a super sized ice cream Sunday, deep fired! with a crunchy pastry shell made on site. I ran into two friends (neighbors) here, from West Hollywood, which I hadn?t seen in years, what a great hangout. They have a back courtyard patio where you can sip your beer or wine, smoke, eat, and watch the full moon from one of 20 Anarondac lounge chairs. Only been open 7 weeks, this place has got the best of everything. A diverse range of customers, I saw Parents with strollers, a group of blue-collar gay guys watching the giant screen game with us. and some echo park lookin Betty Page / James Dean wannabees getting ready to watch the Open Mic sessions on the main stage Thursdays at 7:00 pm. I'm definitely going back, Is Highland Park the new Silver Lake?

Great New Place!! – My usual haunts are Buster's and Kaldi's in South Pasadena.....but the Highland Perk is definetly worth crossing the York Street bridge for. I see a new star rising on the horizon, and its name is Highland Perk!!

I'm taking all my hockey buds over on Saturday. Hey, I was thinking, maybe they should have some bike racks. Highland Park/South Pas/Eagle Rock area is really thick with bicycle owners and their cool cruzers. Gotta have a place to tie up the ol' hoss.

Great coffee house! – I like this place-- very good atmosphere, good service, decent coffee. Very open to customer requests/questions. :) Because they are new, everytime I go in they have new options (food, danish, etc) on the menu. Awesome!

No pun intended – This place really quenches my thirst. I'd been looking for a place to sit up with my laptop and write like my life depended on it, without going to the semi-depressing Starbucks in my area, which seems to always be bogged down by their artsy appeal rather than lifted up by it. Anyway, the free wifi lured me in, the friendly service keeps me coming back, and the delicious desserts are why I'll never quite completely leave.

Great coffee, friendly staff, lovely building – We've been waiting for something like this to open in Highland Park for years. The owner has done a beautiful job renovating an eyesore into a welcoming and comfortable place to relax, to work, or to meet with friends. There's art on the walls and free wifi and beautiful little desserty things in a case and pretty lamps. I'm loving the coffee, too.
