inappropriate manager – I came in, ready to tan and i was greeted at the counter by the store manager. He continued to act inappropriately towards me, and act all cocky when all I wanted was just to get my tan. He was extremely unprofessional and the store was gross. I will NEVER go back.. and I swear i saw a waterbug in my room.
only ask for MELISSA for an airbrush!!!! – I have been airbrushed by so many of these technicians, including Dante, and no one comes close to Melissa. She is adorable, helpful, knowledgable, and gives a flawless airbrush...everytime!! she works on 14th and 23rd and i believe 86th, I wouldnt recomend anyone else
Editorial Review – The beds and spray booths at this tanning salon chain give glows year-round--and lotions sold on-site provide bronzing at home.
Best service anywhere – Tanning at this salon on 23rd St is quite an experience. What separates this store from the others, as I've been to the other Manhattan locations, is the staff. The manager at this location is a guy who goes by James, although I hear his employees sometimes calling him Tony so I'm not sure, but anyway he always takes care of me. From lotion recommendations to great machines and airbrush tanning to stories of how the tanning industry used to be twenty years ago it's always an experience at 23rd St. But don't take my word for it... Head over to 23rd & Lex... Ask for James
Beach Bum Tanning, 23rd Street, NYC – I haven't been in NY that long and a friend recommended that I try airbrush tanning at the Beach Bum on 23rd street. I would definitely recommend Elise if you are looking for a good airbrush artist. She did an outstanding job and was very professional. I was surprised at how good my tan looked (very natural and no ORANGE!!). I will recommend her to other people. I thought the salon was very clean and the prices were reasonable. They will try to suggest you buy "packages" of tanning. If you tan alot it's probably a good idea, but I would give it a try once or twice before you commit to anything.
Great Tanning Products – I've been tanning for a while and I've never tried the tanning lotions. I talked to one of the people at the counter and they explained to me how I can maintain my for longer, which meant fewer visits, which save me money. It's been working well. I really like the Califiornia Tanning cream.
GREAT BEDS, GREAT LOTION, GREAT STAFF – I am incredibly surprised at the two reviews below mine. I am 27 and have been tanning since I was 16 (so a little over ten years) and I have never been more impressed with a tanning salon. I think the beds are wonderful and the staff even better. Its funny that the review below mine mentioned a girl with a bar in her ear because unless theres more than one, thats the girl who helped me tonight. It was my first time there and as soon as I got to the top of the stairs I was given the most welcoming greeting. She very clearly broke down all the levels and packages and offerred me an incredible deal which I took advantage of. She also explained to me why I should use a tanning lotion and it made perfect sense. I tried a packet she reccomended and got twice as good of a tan as I have ever gotten in any other bed or with any other lotion. She was the friendliest most helpful salesperson I've ever been approached by in a tanning salon and I was shocked at the amount of color I got after one session. Overall my experiance was amazing...I won't ever tan at any other salon and plan on renewing my package with nobody but her.
Not so bad – Like the person before me mentioned, there is atleast one super pushy and rude chick who works there. I go there often and always liked my experience until this chick with a bar in her ear started working there. She is OBSESSED with trying to sell people lotion. I understand its a part of her job but she should lay off when a person says "No thanks, no lotion for me" instead of giving a lecture on lotion with BS information. I'm making it sound like I don't like this place but overall the service is very good, the rest of the staff is very nice, there usually is not a wait (atleast at the hours I go), and the prices are good.
Pros: good specials on packages
Cons: chick with bar in her ear
Horrific experience – I was disappointed. I have been to two different beach bum locations, I have had no problems and decided to try this one this one on 23rd street this time because I saw it was new. I thought new beds, new bulbs, what could be better? The customer service was horrible, she ignored me at first and when i tried to give her my name she looked at me as if she was annoyed, she was also extremely pushy for me to buy more tans. Not to mention I saw marks on the top part of the bed! Overall it was a horrible experience, and I am extremely disappointed with this Beach Bum at a so called "just opened" location.
tanning. air brush tanning done right at this tanning salon on the corner of Lex and 23rd in Manhat tan – Claire, the air brush artist, did a great job with the air brush tanning. I went in last week and was thrilled with the results. I went in yesterday and got my face and arms touched up and I could not have been happier. definitely recommended.
