Lights out at Mainstage – This place is closed and has been closed for some time. It's time for the "new" citysearch to update some of their information.
Ok for comedy but not much else – Review edited and updated with good news (see at the bottom):
Fortunately, I got free tickets for the comedy show so no complaints there. But I still might not pay $20 to see some comics I've never heard of. Didn't help that the host (in house?) yelled way too loudly into the mic.
This place feels a tad shady with how they serve alcohol and charge for it. There was nary a splash of alcohol in our drink and we were charged full price and a half shot of Bailey's came out to another $7.
Plus, the waitress bothered us at least twice during the show by bringing us the check and taking it back with her when we didn't immediately dig into our pockets for cash. Why couldn't she just leave it and pick it up a few minutes later after we've had the chance to examine the check and prepare payment?
Then when we eventually paid, she gave herself a 40% tip by not bringing us change for the already inflated bill. We waited as the audience emptied out (all 12 of them) so she could bring us our money. She blatantly ignored us, even whilst we were waving around asking "change"? Not wanting to ruin the night, we decided to cut our losses for the night and just leave and write to the manager.
At first I regretted doing so. The initial emails exchanged with one of the owners became very combative and hostile but as soon as another owner was copied on the correspondence, the tone changed dramatically. Big props to Dorothy for commandeering a pleasant resolution. She offered a very generous $25 gift certificate which more than made up for the money we lost that night, plus gave me an incentive to introduce another person to the club.
If you decide to go here, please let it be for a great comedy act that you're willing to pay $20 for. I'm still iffy about the drink and waitstaff situation. Buyer beware, I guess.
Big Fun at Mainstage Comedy & Music – My Girlfriend and I saw a comedy show recently at Mainstage C&M, and had a GREAT time ! The
comedians were hilarious, and the headliner was so funny that my face hurt after the show from laughing so much ! The food was tasty, our waitress was very nice and quick to bring out our food & drinks, and we'll definitely be back for more ! It's nice to have a fun club like this so close to home, that hosts both comedy and live music. I would absolutely recommend this place to any of my friends.....
a great place for comics... – I would like to thank Mainstage for working hard and being a supportive place for comedians. As a comedian I know how important it is to find a good stage to work on your craft. It is especially important for new comedians who are figuring out how "it" all works. Julie (owner) is very supportive and encouraging to any comedian willing to give their best. I've read reviews about some people seeing a bad show (subjective), but I can attest as a performer who works all the Seattle comedy clubs - that no club in any city can boast of never having an off night. What I observe when I am there is a staff that work hard to make the audience comfortable and well taken care of. My experiences have been positive and I'm glad we comedians have the Mainstage as one our venues. It's not the only venue I work, but it is the subject of this review - and after reading some of the other reviews I felt it was important to let people know how a 40 something comedian (who was good looking for 3 months during the summer before my senior year of University) feels about This club. Let's play nice.
Best comedy club i've been to in a while – This is one of the best comedy clubs I've been to in a while. I produce a festival based out of Los Angeles and came through Seattle to scout new talent. What I liked about the club was not only were the headliner and feature act HYSTERICAL to watch, but the local talent hosting was something different every night. Nice to see a club not only bringing in the best from around the country, but supporting local talent. Keep it up Mainstage. You have a new fan.
Outstandind comedy venue – Julie is a great owner. She brings in quality comedians and the food rocks! It's a very fun evening.
So much to offer, always a great night out. – I love the Mainstage. I've been there on many occasions for different events. I've seen several comics and loved them all. I went to Wine Women and Song with girlfriends and had a great evening listening to local women sing original songs. My husband and I had such a great time at Fugeddaboutit, a comedy murder mystery where the entire audience was part of the show.
There is so much to offer at the Mainstage, you just can't go wrong! The food is always consistent and the drinks are great too!
dishonest owner. – This is the WORST comedy club I've ever been to. When my brother flew in from back east two weeks ago he suggested it might be fun for us to see a show. Apparently Comedy Underground is under construction so I thought I'd give this place a try - what a mistake. After I left FOUR messages to make reservation with no return call I eventually got an apologetic call from a staff person who told me everything from the reservation line went straight to the owner's phone so nothing would be missed. Well, she missed it. Four times. When she did finally call me back she told me about the lineup the night we wanted to attend and how great the headliner was - PJ something or other - and that she had seen him in Vegas. As it turns out, my brother knew the headliner and was really excited about seeing him. The kicker is, they couldn't get PJ and so had a string of about NINE painfully unfunny comedians come up and do short bits. Really one notch up from an open mike night - except that we paid a steep ticket price for it. When I confronted the owner she said in the most flippant way......."sorry, we had a last minute cancellation". Really? Because we bought our tickets at about 10 for a 10:30 show - how can she advertise a show and then not tell her guests - even at the door - that the headliner you came to see isn't performing? This place is awful and the owner is a liar and entirely unethical.
rude liars. – Had a great time. The show was hilarious. Even the guy who wasn't very funny, cracked me up a couple times. And I was impressed with the clean interior. It took a while before the waitress took our order. My friend and I ordered one beer each. Before we could even finish our first round (imperial pints take time), our server brought two more Redhook IPA's to the table and asked if we'd drink them. She explained that she had made a mistake, they were a miss pour. We gladly accepted. By the time we finished all four beers, the show was nearly over. About that time, the waitress brought our bill and i noticed she had charged us for the two beers that were "a mistake." I calmly approached an employee and explained the situation. They suggested I take it up with our server. When I told her i thought the two beers she gave us were on the house, she instantly got upset and claimed that we ordered four beers. I tried to calmly reason with her. She got more upset. I politely asked to speak with her manager. The manager decided to take her employees side and got all worked up about the situation as well. I asked if I could go outside and get my buddy to back up my story. They agreed. Of course the door guy followed me out so i "wouldn't take off." With the doorguy standing within earshot, I asked my friend how many beers we ordered. He replied, "one each." And i asked him how many beers she brought to us all together, and he said "four." Then i told him to tell that to the manager. He did. She got even more upset. I gave them about thirteen bucks and told them they had ruined a perfectly fun evening and that i would never return. They replied, "good, we don't want you back anyways." Real nice. I noticed in another review here that someone got charged fourteen and some change for one margarita that took twenty minutes. Wow. Mainstage comedy club is bammer.
Mainstage Comedy Club – The service was slow, it took 20 minutes to get my margarita. Apparently texting while on the job is appropriate. The show was ok. When I got my bill I was pretty ticked off. One margarita costs $14.25!
There is no chance that I will ever go back there again. Laughs Comedy Club is definitely better.
