CRAZY IF YOU STOP HERE – SORRY, BUT IF YOU ARE GOING TO CHARGE ME $5 FOR AN 8OZ. COKE, YOU BETTER PUT A LOT MORE THAN FOUR UNDERSIZE SHRIMP AND A FEW LEAVES OF LETTUCE IN YOUR SHRIMP SALAD FOR $26...I JUST MOVED TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND THEY WILL NOT SEE ME AGAIN....
JENNIFER KLEIN'S WINE & ROSES - SADLY IS NO MORE. – It is really sad Jennifer Klein's Wine & Roses was destroyed for no good reason. Jennifer's entire 15 member staff quit in support of Jennifer rather than work for her ungrateful investors that ruinously locked Jennifer out , and have no experience at running a wine bar or restaurant. Jennifer spent 4 years working every single day to build her popular award winning wine bar. These monsters should be ashamed and embarrassed by their shockingly ugly behavior. There is nothing left of Jennifer Klein's Wine and Roses that WAS the hottest bar on the UWS. What a sad sad loss for everybody.
A. Awful. B. Rude. C. Over Priced. D. ALL OF THE ABOVE – I just read the review about the entire staff walking out and I think we should throw a party. I'm serious. My friends and I had drinks here about a month and a half ago. Our experience was truly horrific. I live in NYC and thus I go out a lot - probably three or four times a week. This is BY FAR the WORST EXPERIENCE that I have had in this city in the past three years of being a resident. It was so bad that I'm writing a review - my first ever.
My friends and I came in to this wine bar with the intention of having a lovely evening. We live in the area and we were all excited about this place.
Our waitress was a heinous bitch and I don't say mean things lightly. She was pointedly rude to us when we asked to have a different type of wine.
This place is expensive. I understand and accept that. However, if you are going to pay next to $20 for a glass of wine, I believe one should have the option of choosing another glass after tasting it- or offer a tasting in the first place.
Our waitress was repeatedly and increasingly rude to my friends and I and even accosted two of my party outside of the establishment when they were having an important and intimate conversation.
Her behavior was so terrible that we asked to speak to the manager. The man that arrived at our table appeared and behaved like he was heavily stoned. I'll leave it at that.
I'm sincerely happy that whomever has been running this place has been ousted. I enjoyed only the wine and now that there is different management, I might wander back that way.
Best of luck for your drinking and dinning.
JENNIFER KLEIN LOCKED OUT. ENTIRE STAFF QUITS. – Jennifer Klein, Founder/Owner/Manager of Wine & Roses since opening in 2006 has been LOCKED OUT by investors attempting to grab more profits at the expense of Jennifer's reputation and good will earned over 4 years of hard work creating her famous high quality, award winning operation.
The ENTIRE loyal staff of 15 WALKED OUT in support of Jennifer, with honor that is truly amazing and overwhelmingly says everything about the love and respect they mutually shared, and the class environment Jennifer created.
HOWEVER, Jennifer and her many supporters are fighting heart and soul against this travesty manufactured by ungrateful investors, and she hopes to return to her creation and labor of love ASAP!
Easy to find way better. – I stopped by last saturday night , found the place cute and tiny with a nice crowd.
I ordered a glass of red Burgundy at $17 which was not poured in a Pinot glass. First faux pas.
It was warm this evening, and the wine was served at room temperature, well over what you would expect for a Pinot noir grape. Pretty scary...
The second glass was fine ( the helpful bartender having chilled the wine )
Leaving the place, I decided to say a few words to the owner. I have been in the food and wine industry for decades and consider myself a wine connoisseur.
He was obviously intoxicated. He became rapidly agitated and said that I should have left the place if I weren't happy ! How classy ! Best part was the wife, obnoxious and pretentious . David Crockett wanted to call the police !
The website confirmed my thoughts. Owners more interested in fame than quality of service or wine etiquette. All those Awards! What a joke.
Pompous and pathetic. Fits them perfectly.
Best date spot on the UWS – The UWS can be a bit of a wasteland if you are looking for a non-fratty bar. Wine and Roses is one of the standouts. The food is excellent, the staff is prompt and knowledgeable, and despite the slightly gag inducing name, the atmosphere is ideal for first dates.
Just simply Beautiful ! – Jennifer and Todd created magic with this bar on Columbus, a place to discover great wines from all over the planet. Not only you immediately are seduced by a tasteful decor but also charmed by the owners and staff.
A great wine bar for sure but dare trying the food menu, you're up for delightful surprises... the shrimp crostini is my favourite.
My wife and I just love this bar !
Hippest Spot on West Side – I came here with my BF for the first time on Wednesday and was THRILLED to see Steven Tyler from Aerosmith hanging out with a small entourage and chatting up the other customers and bartenders for hours. The owner was celebrating his new 2009 Wine Enthusiast Magazine Award for being "selected as one of the most wine friendly restaurants in the nation" and was trying to figure out where hang it in the limited space. All in all this is one very very cool joint and although I live in the Village I will def come back for more.
Better places to spend your money! – I was in NYC for the first time recently and was taken to the Wine & Roses bar for a night out. The owner stopped by to chat and was CLEARLY intoxicated. He rambled on about himself rather than make our experience a good one. Also felt the prices on the high side. Better place to go if you ask me!
Great Space – Nice intimate neighborhood wine bar. Charming little outdoor tables with roses - all year round. Wide bar with hooks underneath to hang your coat or bag. How often do you see that! Love the Curry Chicken Salad and the Prosciutto and Melon (though pricey).
