Not what I expected – Had lunch at El Siete Mares today. Myself, my husband and our son stopped by today, while we were driving down 281 to look for some land. I saw the sign and automatically assumed it was the same siete mares that was out near OLLU. Of course we decided to eat there since we loved eating at the other restaurant. We were seated promptly. Recieved our menus. The waitress was new but very nice. We could tell she was a little nervous and asked her how big was the medium versus the large ceviche order so we could decide to just share an order. She said she did not know. So we decided to order the large and split it. We also ordered 2 soups. My husband got the siete mares soup and I the fish soup. The prices are pretty high 10.99 for his soup. But we are okay with prices if they are worth it. After like half an hour we finally get our soup. We had to ask for tea refills when we could finally get our waitress to come to our table. The place was not even busy. So we get our soup and its just really salty. Ceviche never came and she asked us she forgot to order it. So she asks us if we still want it. Of course, really the only reason we came there. We got a small plate, then we got charged for the large. 12.99. The small ceviche was 9.99. Sorry but it was not good. When she came I asked her if this was the same restaurant as the one by OLLU. She said no. She said the owner was there, some college kid who looked like he had no clue what mexican seafood was about. I will never eat there again. WAY OVERPRICED for the quality of food you get. NOT AUTHENTIC at all. I would rather drive to the other side of town to get the real thing. I think its pretty shady that they take a name of a restaurant where the food is excellent. If you want real mexican seafood look into the other Siete Mares. I will never go back again. It was a waste of money and totally ruined my day.

Not as good as adverstised – I was excited about trying El Siete Mares after reading about my fellow UTSA alumni that poured their hearts into opening this new establishment.

We arrived about 4:30 PM on a Saturday to find the restaurant empty except for one other table. We were quickly seated, but noticed a lot of the table around us had not been cleaned even though the restaurant was pretty empty. Our waitress explained she was new and we had to point to items on the menu as we ordered.

My wife ordered the De La Casa salad, described as a mix of greens and vegetables. The greens appeared to be iceburg lettuce; the vegetable were large slices of cucumber and unripe tomatoes. We asked the waitress what she suggested. I ordered the Montados (beef skirt steak with jumbo shrimp) at her suggestion. The shrimp and sauce were good, but the skirt steak was salty and overcooked. It came with squash that had been overcooked and their seafood rice, which appeared to be white rice with some artificial crab meat bits.

My wife ordered Enchiladas de Crema Poblana (chicken enchiladas). They were on par with average mexican restaurants in San Antonio like Chueys or Alamo Cafe.

Our waitress definitely shows a need for improvement as she wasn't very good at consolidating or clearing dirty dishes when she stopped by to check on us.

I read an article in the Sombrilla that said Josh Dayton, one of the three owners, spent almost all his time at the restaurant when it first opened, eve missing graduation. We didn't see any of the 3 owners on our recent visit. I would encourage them to spend more time on the restaurant and focus on food and service.
