A great place to grab a beer and a burger.

Great for burgers and hipster-watching. Actually, they pretty much make any sandwich incredible cause I wanted to taste what my friends were having.

Highland Park's neighborhood gastropub is as famous for their cheddar burger, truffle grilled cheese and fish and chips as they are for their laid-back, community atmosphere.

Much has been said of The York's burger and extensive beer list. And while that's true—there are a few things to remember. The cocktails are awesome...I had a great Makers Mark Manhattan and for a small bar bite/snack, try the fried garbanzos with cayenne pepper and lemon. They're addictive.

Best burger in town, according to me. Truffled grilled cheese on thick cut bread is a revelation. Both go great with a local brew on tap.

Real gastro-pub vibe – This is a great neighborhood joint. I met the two owners when they were bartenders at Mixville and followed them over here. They make a good martini, and the wine selection is small but well thought out. Good beer variety too, of course. The food is pretty good. I liked the burger and the catfish, especially the catfish. The lilttle fried garbanzo beans are interesting but not sure I would get them again. I wanted to try the fish and chips but they were out the night I tried to order them. The only thing I wasn't wild about was the Cuban sandwich. It just didn't have much zing. The bar is really starting to build a good crowd and a good momentum. Drinks are reasonably priced.

I feel like putting a bad review so people will stop going there – The York is the best thing to happen to the neighborhood. The food is good and a bit overpriced, I would get rid of the chicken wings and some other items since it's a bit lame. Good beer selection, diverse crowd. Owner is nice if you catch him in a good mood. The bartenders are fine and a bit rude because you can't blame them. The times that I've been there the people calling their drinks out are either lame or absolutely hammered. This one girl got the attention of the bartender and said "can i get a drink" and he snapped at her saying something like , well I am a bartender- Everyone started laughing. It's also funny when people come in here looking for a scene. It's not like that. Come on people get with the program we're in highland park. Hooray for the York and keep up the good work.

Can't Go Wrong – You can't wrong to stop by this local Highland Park bar. The food is good and the variety of drinks and beers is reasonable. Also a good selection of wines at reasonable prices. There is parking behind the bar.

Lively, gentrified space in Highland Park – The York is one of the newest bars to grace the slowly-being-gentrified Highland Park area. The space is loud and bustling, drawing shiny Hollywood types, Eastside hipsters and young homebuyers from the area. They have a great selection of beers on tap, friendly bartenders and a gourmet-ish menu.

Best Bar in L.A. – Highland park is quickly becoming the new cool neighborhood of L.A. and The York is leading the way. The place is large, open and airy, which is great because it's busy every night of the week. The vibe is cool, but never "too cool" and it's a great spot to sit with old friends or make new ones. I manage to do both every time.

They have about a dozen great beers on tap, more by the bottle, a good selection of above average wines and a fully stocked bar. And somehow the service is great even when they're super-busy. And on top of that they have excellent food.

Two former Edendale Grill bartenders open a genuine gastropub in Highland Park's old Wild Hare space, following a stunning remodel. – In Short
Unrecognizable from its stint at the Wild Hare, the space's conversion represents a complete overhaul. Gone is the too-bright lighting scheme, and the unfortunate drop ceiling has been razed to reveal expansive, gorgeous wood-beams--it even looks like a true London public house. The welcoming attitude and relaxed vibe attracts Eastside hipsters of varying ages, and occasional foodies who wander in from outside the neighborhood. The manageable menu sticks to classics like burgers, fish and chips and peach cobbler.

Wonderful rehab job...service needs A LOT of upgrading! – The York offers a wonderful, comfortable pub atmosphere for patrons and brings a fun, social hangout element to our ever-developing neighborhood. Unfortunately, the actual quality of service leaves a lot to be desired. The bartenders are NOT professional- they are slow moving, make weak, poor drinks and don't seem to have any organizational skills. They randomly wander from area to area at the bar and this will eventually scare away patrons that don't want to stand around smashed in a crowd with money in their hands. The food is decent, but it is overpriced for the small portions. I think that the owners should focus on gaining the long term loyalty of the neighborhood crowd instead of doing everything they can to cut costs and make a quick profit. More bartenders (who actually know how to work a crowd) and bigger portions will be a great start so this place will have a long term following.

Great atmosphere and near-perfect food – I went to The York lastnight (a Saturday) for the first time with a group of four. We ordered some of the small plates (olive/garbanzo/peanut combo, salami/cheese plate) and three large plates (ribs, cheeseburger, fish and chips). When the chef gets it right as he/she did for all but one of these dishes, they really knock it out of the park: The ribs were tender and flavorful, the cheeseburger phenomenal with just the right kick, fish and chips good (but we would have preferred the expected fries to the actual potato chips), and the salami/cheese plate perfect (the soft cheese with ashy vein was outrageously good). The only drawback was our snacky order, the trio of deep-fried garbanzos, overly-hot olives (I couldn't pick them up!) and toasted-to-a-burn peanuts. These items are still best served un-messed with, in my humble foodie opinion. The atmosphere was wonderful: All kinds of people being friendly to eachother and laughing a lot. Nice music volume (between 8:00 and 10:00) so we could talk. All-around, these guys have a winner you must go try.

Still needs work!! – Although the atmosphere is much improved over the Wild Hare. The food was just OK and certainly overpriced. The $12 cheese & Salami plate came with exactly 3 slices of Manchego, 4 very thin slices of salami and a small wedge of young goat cheese. The bread showed up about 5 mins after we finished the plate after we hounded the servers enough times for it. The service needs some serious work. There were four of us and we each got our food at separate times. The plates arrived so far apart that the last person to get his food basically ate alone. I hope they get it together; we desperately need a nice/good place to eat and hang out here.

Go after work if you want great service and a chill time! – My boyfriend and I rode our scooter to The York on a lark and really enjoyed our afternoon/evening there. We were there between 6pm and 7:30 pm on a Wednesday. There was a handful of folks around the bar and some at tables, but it was more empty than anything. Right when we walked in and sat down, a couple near us at the bar offered to share there tapas with us. We did and they were tasty! I recommend sharing the nuts, olives, and garbanzo app between a group. Food is a little pricey for small plates, but the quality of ingredients is apparent. We got a lot of chatting in with the owner, had drinks served as soon as we asked for them and enjoyed the great natural light coming in through the big windows. If you're not looking for a scene, but want to experience the aesthetics of a great looking bar, good food and friendly eastside folks, go on a weekday.

Great Job on the Remodel...bad job on the service – I went to the York last night with high hopes. I enjoy bars i can ride my bike to and it's nice to see people putting money into Highland Park / York ave. First let me say they did a great job with the remodel, the bar feels like a place in New York, the open windows in the front are great. Had the chicken wings and they were good, had a thai spiciness to them and came relatively quick (once we got our order in). now the negative part: Bartenders...took 10 minutes to get my order in...it was relatively crowded, but the bartender looked at me 3 times with money in my hand with out so much as a "be there in a sec" "Sorry dude kind of slammed". Also kind of weak once i got the drink....maybe the 2 bartenders are friends with the owners and don't care much about tips or making the bar more money. I'll try it once more to see if it gets better.
