Overpriced, and poor food – After a little shopping in Nashville, we decided to try New Orleans Manor on our way home to Portland. I was surprised at the inactivity around the restaurant as we were pulling in. There was no one else headed into or out of the restuarant. That's when I noticed that the hours were 5-9, and we were arriving at 8:30. That should have been my first clue to keep driving home. We were promptly seated, however the host was less than inviting and did not ask us how many in the party or whether we wanted smoking or non smoking. The server did not mention any menus, and told us the restaurant only had the hot bar. At 8:30, the bar was empty. There were no vegetables, no meat, only crab legs, and some fried shrimp. After walking around the bar in confusion a couple of times, the attendant said they would be replenishing the bar momentarily. So, I decided to fix a salad. The salad options were as disappointing as the bar. The only options on the salad bar were ice berg lettuce, tomato wedges, cheese, olives, mushrooms, and lettuce.

They did restock the bar while we were enjoying our lettuce, if you consider putting three pieces of overcooked prime rib, a squash casserole, and some more fried shrimp restocking the bar.

After trying to fill up on crab legs, we were about to head for dessert when a young lady appeared with a small platter asking us if we would like an appetizer. I thought an appetizer was a precursor to an entree?

In summary, if you want to pay $30-$40 per person for fried shrimp, and crab legs, this is the place for you. If you want a good meal, I would recommend Stamps Diner just down the road. Their customers looked much happier leaving the restaurant than the customers at New Orleans Manor.

One more restaurant in Gallatin that won't make it. – The New Orleans Manor in Gallatin opened a few weeks ago. We were looking forward to giving it a try. We first checked the website and were excited to have a classy joint in Gallatin; prices looked to be around $30 to $40 dollars a person.

When we walked through the door we were greeted by a man in a dirty polo shirt who seated us. Table was set as expected for a high end restaurant; however, we quickly noticed the dirty silverware. The waiter greeted us and told us about the food bar and asked us if we would like the food bar. I asked for a menu and was told that everything on the menu was on the bar and would I like the food bar. I asked again for a menu and reluctantly was given a menu and encouraged to check out the food bar. We quickly looked at the menu and then went to check out the food bar. Not really interested in the food bar I went back to my table with plans to order from the menu. I quickly notice the menus where gone. After double checking to make sure I returned to the correct table, another waiter came to the table asking if we would like to order an appetizer. I believe both of the waiters where probably teenagers, and inexperienced. Their presentation was awkward and not polished, but their pushing me into the food bar was unacceptable. Also we where not offered any drinks.

I don?t mind spending the money on a good meal, but for two people we were going to spend more than $60 plus tip. For that much money I don't expect the McDonald?s treatment. By the way, we got up and left without eating and had a wonderful meal with dessert at O?Charlie?s.

Editorial Review – With a vast seafood feast, restaurant exudes Southern hospitality in an ornate setting.
