Just O.K..... – I was very skeptical about trying this place out after reading the reviews; they were about half and half. But, my boyfriend is a tex-mex fanatic, so we went ahead and tried it. It wasn't as bad as I prepared myself for it to be...but it wasn't particularly good, either. The waiter, albeit professional and appeared to be attentive, didn't listen very well. We ordered two of the patron margaritas on the rocks with no salt and he brought them both out with salt. We corrected him and he appeared to understand, rushed off and came back to the table with a plate of MORE salt. (?) Again, we corrected him and after that he finally got it right. And was very apologetic. Unfortunately, though, I agree with some of the other reviewers; the margaritas were weak and watered down. The salsa was just ok. I ordered the tortilla soup as an appetizer and it was very bland. My boyfriend's crab enchiladas were pretty tasty. I had the special for that particular day as my entree-a fillet mignon on a bed of spinach with a crab cake and a shrimp on top. I can't really say it was good or bad; just blah. We had the fried icecream for dessert...again...it was just ok. I will summarize with this--I think Houston has far too many tex-mex options to settle for way over-priced, just ok food with touch and go service. I won't be going back.

Great restaurant! – Armandos is my favorite mexican restaurant, not only because of the great food but the atmosphere. Such a beautiful restaurant and lovely ambiance. The food is outstanding and the margaritas excellent. If you haven't been, you really should give Armandos a try. There is sometimes a bit of a wait, but definately worth it!

Why Did I go???? – I read the reviews, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Wasted 2 hours of my life!!! Tables were empty and the 1st thing I heard when I walked in was "do I have a reserevation"? It's 8pm, place is 75% empty, is the guy kidding?? Everyone seems to have an attitude, from the valet, the hostess, wait staff, etc. I had to battle everyone just to get decent service. My tip was reflective of the lack of professionalism by the entire staff at Armando's. I won't go back.

to expensive for me – mexican food for $30 a plate???? I couldn't believe the prices. It started bad for me, the valet guy was so rude. He acted like he was doing me a favor.

The drinks were watered down, I spoke to the manager on duty and he was as rude as the valet guy.

The food was cold, the tortillas tasted liek they brought them over from Krogers. The salsa was flat.

It wasn't a fun dining experience for us. We heard the restaurant was a good place to eat, but i certainly don't agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!

save your money, go somewhere else.

Best People watching and tasty food – If you are looking for a place for great people watching and fun atmosphere Armando's is the place to be. The food is great and so is the vibe. What I like best about the food is that is it fresh and "homemade" dishes. Premium quality selections of cheese, veg. and meats.

I have always had great service.

If you are on a budget you should be eating at home.

Most classy restaurant in Houston by far! – My experience can be summed up with one word, Wonderful! After my family and I arrived into Houston from our native New York City, I heard only raves from friends and colleagues recommending the new hot spot! Unsure of what to expect and always a bit weary of new restaurants, we went into Armando's and were blown away! The ambiance is beautiful and refined! The vintage leather bar is gorgeous and the famous margaritas are the best I have had yet! I am dying for the recipe! Once we sat down our waiter, a very attentive and handsome young man gave us great recommendations and suggestions. We ordered the rich spinach enchiladas, the tasty flautas and the tacos al carbon, in addition to the queso flameado for an appetizer. The queso flameado was so good we ordered two! The tacos al carbon and tortillas are delicious and those beans are heaven! For dessert we ordered the tres leches, flan and sopapillas and made sure we left our plates clean. The drinks and food were well priced and at times, seemed underpriced for such an elegant and stylish atmosphere. This is no average Houston Mexican restaurant, but much more reminiscent of a sophisticated scene straight out of old 1920's Mexico City! I will definitely be recommending it to all my family, friends and anyone for that matter! Please Armando come to Manhattan and open a location here! You will be a great success!

It's just okay – Agree with many of the other posters who were left wondering WHAT IS ALL THE HYPE? I've never had a bad meal at this place, but never a truly memorable one either. And I've always had to wait too long for a table, even with reservations. The crowd can be diverse in age, but it's mostly a mid-40s and older scene. It might be more fun to sip coctails at the bar while ogling the motley crew of folks trying to fit into "the scene." Wish I could convince my boyfriend to go, but he's so put off by the food and service.

Heaven has arrived at Armandos – Finally a Houston Mexican restaurant with style, taste and amazing service! (Leo is the best waiter I have ever had in Houston). Armando's has done what no other Mexican restaurant has accomplished yet in Houston, fresh, clean Mexican food, the enchiladas were amazing and light, wrapped in fresh tortillas. The frozen margaritas potent, so smooth beware they sneak up on you. Imagine having this unbelievably simple and tasty Mexican food on white linen in an ambiance that is from Mexico City or Madrid in Houston?? Whoever designed this space and this menu needs to expand and franchise this concept. This will be my new favorite restaurant in Houston, hope Armando is ready for me and my extended family because my kitchen is now closed we will be dining at Armando's!

Best margaritas in Houston! – Great bar scene, beautiful people, relaxed, comfortable setting with good bartenders. You usually have a short wait , but no problem, the margs are the best in town. Food is excellent, especially the snapper and the refried beans are to live for. The atmosphere is classy without being pretentious, call it urban chic. The service is attentive. Armando is usually there holding Court.
