Terrible!!! – 3:40am on Friday (10.30.10). My big toe is still hurting. First of all, the service was BAD. the waiter was making a stupid joke about if my husband made my little sister pregnant?! We were shocked when we hear this typed of joke. Secondly, the service was not good. Lastly, my toe got jammed from woman restroom door and still hurt so bad til now. I woke up to take some pain killer at 3:30am. We had addressed the issue to the owner and female owner was laugher at it us. We did not understood why and never go back again.

What kind of place is this. – I went for dinner yesterday, food was horrible. I ordered a 3 leches cake and it had gone bad!. It tasted like old cheese.. I will never go back here.

No Bueno – If atmosphere is needed this is the place. However, you will get a better meal at Taco Cabana for a fraction of the price. It was horrible and it took 90minutes to get our meal after the order was place.

Realize as we were leaving the thug at the front door was the owner ie picture of himself on the wall . Not a friendly chap

Good first experience, great date spot – My husband took me here for a weeknight dinner date, and we were seated immediately in the fairly-vacant restaurant. There were several patrons at the bar, definitely a well-to-do crowd. I was initially disappointed because I ordered a mojito and the waiter came back 5 minutes later to tell me they had no mint, so I had to order something else. Fortunately, the margarita I ordered instead was very tasty. The salsa was great, as were our entrees: carnitas and fish tacos. Looking forward to our next visit!!!

Stick a fork in it. – The shi shi Armandos of old is dead. Save for an occasionally well made margarita, this place is awful. You can get better, more authentic Mexican at Lupe's at half the price, minus the aging divorce's looking for action.

Bad Food, Very Expensive – Very bad experience. Bad food, and very expensive. The Guacamole was terrible.

When I went there the place was empty and the owner Armando never greeted us

even though we ordered a bottle of champagne.

He is an arrogant person and thinks his above his clientele. He should learn more

about how to treat a client so they go come back to his place.

The decor is the only nice thing about the restaurant but the food and service

are just terrible.

Better off with drive through at Taco Bell – In addition to bland, over-priced food and despondent service, my wife found a large chicken bone in her enchilada that provided a frightening semblance to a skeletal remnain of an ill-fated pigeon. Upon notifying the staff, they simply offered notification of the chef. In a city with so many wonderful Mexican restaurants, it is amazing this place has lasted as long as it has. Absolute travesty and not worth your time or money.

Extremely disappointed! – The reviews in Texas Monthly and Paper City were quite misleading. I was prepared for a wonderful evening of great mexican food only to find myslef enduring a greasy tasteless meal. We started out with the crab-cakes, that should have been our sign to leave. They were greasy and over-cooked. My cake was almost burnt. I did not make a fuss . . after all, we were in for a great meal!

The meal arrived. My crab enchilada was tasteless and cold in the center. The sour cream topping was just that, SOUR CREAM. My husband's steak looked like a "skirt" steak and 1/4 of it was pure fat. Not marbling, but fat. So much fat that it could have been removed prior to cooking / prior to serving.

The atmosphere did measure up, it was beautiful and cozy. I only regert that I did not go to Las Alamedas, Hugo's or Cyclone Anaya's - you are always sure to get a wonderful evening filled with great food, and good service.

Uber-stylish white tablecloth Tex-Mex ideal for trendsetters and River Oaks socialites celebrating the restaurant's retro comeback. – In Short
Though the somewhat traditional interior resembles former tenant River Oaks Grill, the restaurant itself is classic Armando's with the same clientele of social scenesters and menu of classic Tex-Mex as with the original '80s-era locale on Shepherd. Owner Armando Palacios ensures menu favorites remain like potent margaritas, mushroom-flecked queso fundido, grilled snapper and beef dishes, tacos al carbon, chicken verde or crab enchiladas, and traditional desserts like tres leches cake and sopapillas.
