AWFUL! – The venue is very nice. But the "niceness" stops there. Honestly I don't know how this place stays in business. I thought I'd be doing a good thing by having my event at Yancy's to throw some business their way (since it's notoriously empty). I regret making that decision. The service was HORRIBLE. Persons in my party received their food an HOUR late with no apology. The manager threw us in a "Private" dining room then proceeded to leave the premises for 2 hours. NO ONE knew how to operate the sound system to get music playing for us. There were several instances where persons ordered things ON THE MENU and were told, "We don't have that," including a request to see the dessert menu which was met with "We're not serving dessert tonight." Where is THAT common for a RESTAURANT? The cover charge at the door was ramped up to $10 in anticipation of my group. I'm not sure why he thought it was acceptable to charge people $10 to enter a RESTAURANT. For $10 per head we should have gotten much better service. Add to the debacle the fact that upon arrival, the management started introducing new terms that we did not discuss prior to the event. The business dealings here are quite shaky. All things considered I would suppose it's a lesson learned for me—get it on paper (and go somewhere else).
Not all it's cracked-up to be – I was very disappointed when a group of us went to Yancys. I was forewarned this place isn't all that, but I still held out hope.
When we got there is was 8:45pm and we were charged a $10 dollar cover, because there was a band playing that night. However, the band wasn't set-up. The band didn't begin their mic check until 9:15 and began their set around 9:30.
When it was time to order, I order a hamburger and the waitress replied "we don't have that". The waitress did check and they did have the burger I wanted. Although the burger tasted good it was more like a slider than a burger.
We didn't stay very long after getting our food, which came pretty quickly. We heard two songs from the band. The lead singer even pulled someone from the audience to sing and that was a wreck...I was sitting there thinking "I paid for this?!". Other than that the band Sweet Dreams was good (what we did see).
I would not recommend this place at all.
Yancy's didnt respond to my email,so.... – I visited Yancy's 2 wks ago on a Thursday night. We paid the expected $5 cover for open mic night as we did back in August on our first visit. Back in August, my friend and I shared an order of crab cakes and a warm seafood dip. It took @ least 30 minutes for the food to arrive, but it was well worth the wait. It was freshly prepared and it only cost us about $10 because the appetizers were half price.
We expected the same good food for a good price at our most recent visit. Our party of 3 decided to order...I wanted the dip, but was told it was no longer on the menu. One friend ordered a seafood pasta and the other asked for the crab cakes. I chose shrimp & fries to replace the dip. The server returned a few min later to say that crab cakes werent available that night because the cook wasnt satisfied / the taste (?). I remarked that " at least its only half price." The server, who was very pleasant the entire time, told me we were too late for that price....thats only 6-8pm. Who is there 6-8 on a Thursday evening? Open mic starts @ 9:30, which actually was after 10 that night.
The food arrived about 15 min later. My fried shrimp were rubbery and warm, the "homestyle" fries were limp and various sizes. The pasta was reported as "tasting funny", but I didnt test it to find out. The friend who ordered it took a few bites and pushed her plate away. Some type of nachos were ordered to replace the crab cakes...my friend said it was good, or maybe she was just hungry. The server eventually removed the shrimp and pasta dishes from our bill due to our obvious dissatisfaction with our food.
1. why would the food be excellent in August, but disgusting 2 months later?
2. why charge $5 cover and still charge full price for food during the time you know the crowd will be there? we paid the $5 for entertainment, not to purchase a full price meal of low quality.
3. I probably will return for the music and drinks, but I WILL NOT EAT THERE AGAIN! Fix the kitchen and put the apps on special again. A restaurant won't survive if customers don't purchase food!
Horrible. So disappointed – OMG... Where shall I begin? My boyfriend and I visited Yancy's on a Friday night. 1st issue was $10 per person cover charge... What? (Jazz Band..So, So --DIRTY JEAN AND A WRINKLED WALMART BUTTON DOWN. ARE YOU SERIOUS) OK, however my boyfriend really wanted to go so we proceeded. The lady waitress...horrible, rude, unprofessional, ect... 2.) She wanted to seat us in front of this large speaker and we very nicely asked her if we could be seated to another table( MANY TABLES AVAILABLE BY THE WAY). TOTALLY ATTITUDE. Why would we want to sit in front of a LOUD 5 ft speaker while having dinner?
3.) FOOD--- OVERPRICED!! AND NOT VERY TASTY AT ALL.
4.)a)-- They were out of different "meat" items at 9:30 on a Friday night. Are you serious. My burger was OVER DONE and DR.
4.) Waitress didn't check on us after the food was delivered to the table nor did she ask if we would like another "DRINK". She gave us our ticket and ran! totally disrespect US when we left her a 20% tip that she totally DIDNOT DESERVE.
I could have overlooked the covercharge, and so, so food if the SERVICE was not so BAD!!! "OUR" people have to do better, if you can read between the lines.
So much more, HOWEVER TO MAKE IT SHORT. WE HAVE VOWED TO NEVER REVISIT THIS PLACE EVER AGAIN. TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED!
The Best 5 Star Restaurant in Raleigh – I had an excellent time at Yancy's yesterday. The food was unbelievable and the service was the best that I have ever seen. I was also surprised by the great entertainment that was provided. I would highly recommend this 5 star restaurant to anyone.
Great Food Great Entertainment – I ate at Yancey's Last night , The Cajun/Southern Food was excellent The Best Jambalaya since I was in New Orleans and , the Entertainment on Wednesdays is The Best and the Service was Friendly and Prompt. I highly recommend you try the Creole Nachos.
GREAT MUSIC, BUT HORRIBLE FOOD AND SERVICE – OK, where do I start. Went to Yancy's on a Thursday night with some friends, got there about nine and was told there is a $5 cover charge because a band was going to be there. This info was not listed on their website and I think it is TACKY to ask people to pay to eat! I didn't come for the band I came to eat their food. Second, the waitress got everything wrong, never brought the sauce out onetime with the meal, we never got bread, and we had to beg for water. I had their Jazzy wings and Mac n Cheese. The food was HORRIBLE! I was in shock that an establishment with their reputation served food of this quality, the food was so bad, it's the only reason I am up this early in the morning writing this review! I am sick as hell! The Mac n Cheese looked like a 3 year old played around and slopped it together and the wings were dry, tiny and super hard, you could barely bite them. My friend got fried chicken and they couldn't get that right!!!!! They ONLY good thing was the BAND, they were awesome, even though they never started on time (9pm was the start time, they started at 10:45) BUT here is the kicker, my friend ordered sweet potato pie, it costs 5.95, they had the nerve to bring out this little thin sliced pie with the crust fallen off!!!!!!! HORRIBLE, you could not pay me to eat there. It now makes sense why they charge $5 to get in because they will not make any money on the food! EVER!
And just so you know what I consider good food, The Pitt ,in down town Raleigh..................................And Yancy's ain't got nothing on them..............HORRIBLE!
Yancy's the best food in Raleigh,NC – I LOVE YANCY'S the food, the customer service, the music. It's the perfect place for a date brunch is my favorite yum-meee. Had fun! – Just wanted to say I went out looking for a good Jazz Band and I found that and more at Yancy's. The bands name was Rhythmic Piece. Great band! We had dinner. The food was good. The service was good, the drinks were good.Tthe crowd was exciting. We just had a great time. I know I will be back! Yancy's is back, and I am so glad!!!!
Had a great time – I wanted to take my date out for a good time. Live music and good food. We went to Yancys on Rock Quarry road. When we arrived we were greated by a nice lively host. We heard a jazz band playing. Thats all we needed to start the night off right! Our server greated us at the host stand and lead us to our table. She told us the specials for the evening. I ordered the T-Bone special and a spiniche dip appitizer. My date went for the gumbo and Big Bayou Salad. The band was just great. Our appiterziers arrived in good time. Our main courses followed pretty fast. My steak was cooked just right and my dates salad was huge! After all that food we didnt have room for desert but we did get a couple of drinks. We did get a suprise. Mr. Yancey personally thanked us for dropping in and got on the stage and sang a birthday song for all the people out on their birthdays. I will be back for my birthday!!!!!
