Loved it there – I shopped around. A lot! At semester break I even flew home to TX and went gown shopping at 4 stores with my mom and sis. Everything was a let down after going to Alta Moda. All the same brands that I tried in Dallas were at Alta Moda, but with less of the rat-race and a lot better service. The gown I ordered was by Augusta Jones, a designer that a Dallas store had, but the TX location said they couldn't do the fabric I wanted. Jamie at Alta Moda reassured me it could, and even showed me a fabric sample. After the TX experience, I was really nervous about doing it, but it came in just as promised, in my material choice, and even with custom train beading.
My fiance is from Utah so are most of our friends, so we decided to hold our wedding in SLC last December. I wanted to buy my gown here so I didn't have to travel back and froth with it. Even if we had our wedding in TX, I still would have bought it at Alta Moda. Just like in the last post, they pressed my gown for me for free and delivered it to my wedding that afternoon.
A Simple, Elegant and Refined selection with Exemplary Service – Alta Moda maintains one of the finest selection of unique and varied gowns of anyplace I traveled to. Living in California, but getting married in Utah, one would think I would have an easy time finding a dress in the bay area. I went to four stores and a special Etergie, and was still unsuccessful - until I found Alta Moda, and its owner, Hilary Anderson. I was simply blown away by her exquisite taste. Dresses from all four corners of the world, in every price range - and yet the selection is not remotely overwhelming. I came twice, from out of state as I mentioned, and they were lovely. I was having the hardest time finding a dress and then suddenly I put the last one on and wallah! They got it to me on time, had it sized correctly, and we had to do very little alterations to the dress itself. My only complain would be that at least one of the alteration hemming pins stayed in the dress and it got caught on my shoe after my ceremony - that took a little while to get untied with.
I have some health issues that require particular fabrics and dress structures to manage comfortably, and they took the time to really listen and address all of the issues, including taking out 7 pounds of the fabric/train so that I could carry the dress on my body without straining my neck - and the dress looked perfect, as if that extra fabric had never even been there in the first place
So, overall, a lovely experience, and a dress that I cherished. Thank you Hilary and the Alta Moda staff for everything.
Best Gowns Ever! – After searching for the perfect gown online, I made my appointment at Alta Moda. They had a great selection of all of the gowns I'd seen in the magazines. There were two designers in specific that I was interested in, Monique Lhuillier and Anne Barge and they carried both! I worked with Hilary, and she was extremely helpful in choosing gowns for me to try on based on my descriptions and pictures that I brought in with me.
The hard part was that I needed a gown that could be made temple ready. Alta Moda worked with me and the gown's designer to not only make it temple ready, but even more gorgeous than the sample I tried on! I was absolutely amazed at their ability to completely customize the gown so it was not only modest, but a one of a kind!
The one problem I had was that the satin I chose wrinkled easily. After my bridal session the gown was covered in wrinkles and I didn't discover it until the wedding day! They sent someone down to pick up the gown, have it pressed and rushed back in time for me to come out of the temple and they never asked for a single penny! THAT'S astounding service!!!
Beautiful Gowns with Atrocious Attitudes...and we're not even in LA! – I walked into this salon with a friend of mine, fully intending to drop the big bucks on the perfect dress. They have many that are amazing and unique. It's too bad the staff cared more about their personal conversation than helping me because I never even made it to the fitting room. They did not seem to mind that we were in the in the salon, listening to their conversation, full of scathing remarks about a past client. We continued to look for about 20 minutes until we had enough of the lack of service and unprofessionalism. They may have a great selection of beautiful couture but the price is higher than that on the tag when you don't have the service or respect to back it up. I know that I don't ever want to be the client they tear to shreads in front of someone else.
In the end, I purchased my stunning Romona Keveza gown from Lily at White Couture in Park City and could not be HAPPIER!
Best bridal boutique west of New York! – I am completely bewildered as to the 2 poor reviews about Alta Moda and felt I should speak up, apparently thrilled brides aren't as loud as we should be.
When my now husband proposed I got a lot of advice. Many of my friends purchased their gowns at Alta Moda and were beyond thrilled.
So I made an appointment with them as well as a mega bridal chain, I figured I would check out all of my options. The chain I went to was awful, I told them about my "trouble spots" and asked for some style advice. All I got was a roll of the eyes. Absolutely NO personal service. After being treated like one out of a herd of cattle at the mega store, I was a bit fed up with gown shopping.
Alta Moda saved the entire experience for me. I was personally greeted and set up with my own consultant who helped me from day 1 to delivery. She even came to my bridal session and helped me into my dress!
A huge thing I noticed was the difference in quality of the gowns. (fabric, lace, seaming) I was honestly so surprised that there could possibly be that big of a difference, but believe me there is.
When I asked about my "trouble zones" they suggested many gowns that would flatter me. It was so exciting to see myself looking 10lbs lighter and perfectly curvy just because they knew about their gowns and what looks good on every body type.
When I found "THE" dress, I had to have it rushed because I had a relatively short engagement and they made it happen!
They took all of my measurements and sent them to the designer - not just a generic "oh she is a size 8." Which is wonderful because when my gown came in there were very few alterations needed. I thought that the seamstress was wonderful, she perfected my gown! I couldn't have imagined it would fit so perfect!
Lastly, they were extremely helpful and accommodating when it came to specifics required for my religious needs when it came to the cut.
I can't say enough good things about Alta Moda, They're fabulous!
What a letdown! – I guess I'm glad to see that someone did not have a bad experience at this place, unfortunately, it wasn't me. I can relate to the first post for sure. Sadly, Salt Lake doesn't have much to offer in the way of couture so if that's what you're looking for in this town and you happen to be getting married, you're pretty much stuck with this place - and they know it. There is no negotiation on price, like in other towns and service is really inconsistant. For a bridal shop, I never felt that they understood the sense of urgency that goes along with some situations -- like when your dress arrives late, for instance. It makes me wonder if they placed my order correctly, or can't pay their bills, or if they just all together forgot to order it until they were reminded. As for the alterations...I think I could have done better. If you absolutely feel you must shop here, a few tips of advice: don't spend too much money (it will only make you resent the whole experience all that much more), don't expect anyone to cater to your needs or go out of their way and most importantly, find a seamstress you can trust, that will listen to what you want - avoid using theirs at all costs.
Or, better yet, try White Couture up in Park City - 435.655.2943. I wish I had found them BEFORE I shopped at Alta Moda.
Drastically Different Opinion – It's amusing to me how two people can have such vastly different experiences. I have been beyond thrilled with the experience and treatment I have been given at Alta Moda. The old saying holds very true with this boutique: "You get what you pay for." You will find what sets this boutique apart from others in the valley is the selection of HIGH quality designer bridal gowns and above excellent customer service. Yes, this does entail a higher price tag, but again... You get what you pay for. I have never walked into this shop without being asked if I would like something to drink within the first 3 minutes. A bridal consultant was assigned specifically to me the very first day, and has been handling my account and communicating with me ever since. She took the time to sit down with me to discuss what type of wedding I was having, what "feel" I was going for in a gown, and helped me with my selection accordingly. I recieve regular phone calls from her updating me on the status and progress of my gown & veil. She has even served as a kind of "wedding consultant" offering her advice and recommendations on completely non-gown related wedding subjects, as they deal with the various wedding vendors in the valley regularly. If that's not going above-and-beyond I'm not sure what is. May I also say that my experience with their alterationist has been lovely. She is a sweet sweet lady and is exceptionally skilled at what she does. The work that she has done on my gown has made it look as if the designer herself made the dress with me inside it. I cannot wait to wear the beautiful gown that perfectly embodies my wedding and personal style. I would recommend Alta Moda HIGHLY to any bride who wants a personal and customized experience in one of the most important decisions she will make for her wedding. After all, you only wear the dress once, but the pictures last forever!
Nothing good here. – Horrible experience. Terrible alterations. Poor communication and customer service. Dippy staff seems to be overly medicated. Didn't even wear my $3000 dress at my wedding b/c the seamstress ruined it, plus 2 of my bridesmaids dresses. Alta Moda wouldn't remedy the issue in any way. Go to vegas, new york, los angeles, anywhere but here, for a designer dress!
