Jim's employee's are very knowledgable. Their policies however suck as do their prices. I have spent probably $25,000 over the past 10+ years in their store. Don't consider trading anything in, you will get taken advantage of. The only and I mean only reason I have shopped there, is because of their inventory. I buy some exotic guns and they usually have them. Of coarse 20% higher than anywhere else. This has to be the only reason this place is still in business. If you want a great guy to deal with, unbeatable prices and you live in Ascension Parish check out Mark at Waggenspack Gun and Reloading in Gonzales. He is a great guy to deal with and I have never been able to beat his prices. I don't know how he makes money as low as his prices are. Take it from a guy who buys a lot of guns. Unless you are looking for something exotic like a Sako TRG 42, Night Hawk .45. Go somewhere that cares about your repeat business. I can tell you from a whole lot of experience Jim's does not. 2

If you like to get ripped off, shop here – I have been shopping around for a particular gun. Yesterday I was at Jim's and saw the gun (used) in the case, upon inspecting it I noticed that there was a flaw with the magazine.

I had two guns that were almost new that I was willing to trade in on this one. Bear in mind these guns of mine I was willing to trade were no slouches by any means. I offered to trade both of my guns for a new in the box gun, or one of the guns for the used and I would deal with the faulty magazine. The clerk asked me how much I wanted for the guns, knowing this was a setup I asked him to just see what he could do, what he came back with was beyond insulting. Then when I asked if I could have a gun transferred (knowing I could find what I was looking for online cheaper) they wouldn't do due to having it in the store.

There prices are super high (sometimes above the manufacturer's suggested price), they have excessive fees and generally take adavantage of the public by being one of the only games in town.....If you are looking for a fair deal, you won't find it here....

By the way I was handled I could tell that these guys just dont care and this review probably doesn't mean anything, just hoping to give some other shoppers the truth about shopping at Jims. Personally I will never shop there again.

Try Somewhere Else – Their prices are super high and they have inconsistent fee policies. I have bought 3 guns from them since they have been opened at their "new" location. the second gun I purchased I had to used my concealed carry permit as identification because I had misplaced my DL. No problems, no fees, nothing. I went in a week later and purchased another gun and when the salesman asked for ID i explained how i had used my concealed carry there the week before and everything went smoothly. He went to go ask whoever was in charge at the time and came back to tell me they could run my concealed carry permit, but it would cost an extra $30! AS IF THEY HAD TO DO SOMETHING EXTRA TO USE IT! They placed the same phone call to the FBI like with every other purchase for the background check, no extra steps.

That is Jim's Firearms trying to take advantage of a repeat customer because I was using something different, but perfectly acceptable by the FBI's standards.

Granted, you probably won't experienced this exact scenario as me, but this is a testament to their character, they will try to take advantage of you whenever the opportunity arises.

Do yourself a favor and go to Cabelas, Bass Pro or Pelican Pawn for gun purchases in and around Baton Rouge. Better prices and better service there!
