Great food. Great staff. – Loved the roasted chicken so much that I had to go back the following night to order it again! Not only the chicken, but the vegies that it came with were to die for...roasted broccoli and a root vegie puree. I sat up at the bar and watched the chef's work their magic, not to mention how friendly they were. (thanks Jerry & Toby! It was delicious!) The chocolate tart was fantastic. And you've got to love the convenience of free and easy parking in a safe neighborhood, just a few minutes north of the craziness of trying to find parking in Belltown.
Drunk semi-owner picking fights with guests... – This used to be my favorite place to eat until. Then I had to deal with drunk Jesse (aka owner #2) who insulted me, tried to pick a fight with me in the bathroom, come sit next to me to try to do it again and then finally threaten me across from the bar and tell me to get the F**K out. Dude you are the drunk and I did nothing to you. Needless to say my friends are not amused and I am thinking about beating your a$$ the next time I see you. This place is spoiled. I like the food, I think the other owner I (and likely the true inspiration for the place) will fix this. Sadly I will NEVER go here again. And I will tell everyone about this as my guests that night were appalled by someone yelling at me for ordering food late. We got a menu did we not? You know who I am coward. Thanks for ruining my night. Douche.
Underwhelmed – The best part of our dinner tonight was the service. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and quick. Timing of all service aspects was good. On the minus side, the restaurant temperature was very cold, and the food got mixed reviews from our party of five. Prices seem 1-2 dollars too high for most dishes -- we could get similar pricing from higher-end restaurants with better food. When there is so much to choose from on the restaurant scene, the good service we experienced here is probably not enough to make us come back for average food & atmosphere with a high price tag.
I dream of gnocchi – Great bistro food and friendly service. Get the gnocchi with butternut squash and chantrelles - it's amazing. The gnocchi is made with cheese (instead of potato). No wonder they're so damn good. The generous amount of shaved parmesan and touch of sage are the perfect compliments. The steak frites is delicious too - just beware that their steaks are cooked on the rare side. The salty garlicky sauce smothers the fatty rib-eye and soaks into the fries. Comfort food at its best.
Friendly and fresh – Betty is the perfect neighborhood place with just a touch of flair. I went here for cocktails and dessert with a few of my gal pals and had a delightful time! Our waitress was very friendly and accomodating and both the cocktails and desserts were flavorful and tasty! Not too noisy but still alive and full of energy. The art deco bar is gorgeous yet simple and the overall atmosphere really makes you feel at home. A versatile place that's great for a date or rendezvous with friends!
Just Right – Betty fits right in that rare realm of a restaurant that has a homey, comfy vibe but but is still nice enough to make you feel like you are out on a special night. The menu fits on one page of paper with several choices for salads, appetizers and entrees. The steak frites is probably the dish Betty will make it's name on in the long run, much like Crow did with their crispy skinned chicken. Betty's wine list features several by the glass selections and their pours are heavy. Desserts are made on premises and if you still have room, you can't go wrong with Betty's fresh fruit pie of the day selection, always served ala mode. Whether you are taking out your mom or a hot date, Betty will do just fine.
Overhyped and short on delivery. – We went there two weeks ago. Food was OK but not exceptional. The halibut I had was bland and my husband's steak was bland. Service is also lacking. It was really noisy too. I'd rather go to Tilth or Smash Wine Bar for a "neighborhood" kind of place.
Try the steak frites – I love Betty. I have heard some negative things, but remember that this is a new restaurant, sometimes it takes a little while to work out the kinks. The staff are friendlier than almost any I know of. The food has always been consistent and very good. I have a hard time ordering anything but the steak frites because it is so damn good! However I have tried some different pasta dishes and salads that were always tasty and fresh. I really recommend desserts at Betty, I find them to be better than the offerings at Crow. Also, try the sparkling ginger lemonade, it is my favorite cocktail for the summer.
Food wasn't the best... – I was disappointed given all the hype of the restaurant. The food was bland and I expected more from them(aren't they the sister restaurant of Crow?) The staff was great but in general, just disappointed with the food. The steak was of poor quality and my pork dish was bland. Maybe we just got a bad piece. I would like to hope their food is as good as we've heard but ours just wasn't up to standard.
Quality food! – Small menu, but QUALITY. Great vegetarian option(chard and ricotta ravioli in a fig sauce). I would go back for just that! Since the boyfriend is a meat eater he said the pork was Yummy, and he is notoriously picky! Service was also friendly, and prompt.
