Outstanding Vietnamese – Delicious, amazing Vietnamese food. The pho is made with rich, superflavorful broth. Lots of interesting, tasty appetizers such as Vietnamese ravioli (could serve as an entree, too), buttery toast with shrimp mousse, and scallion pancakes. Everything consistently tastes delicious. Lots of choices, including the usual favorites (pad thai, spring rolls) and less usual fare. Service is very friendly, and so are the prices--a great value. Atmosphere is simple and relaxed. One of the best all around restaurants in town.
Very good vietnamese food – I was disppointed with the choices of vietnamese restaurants in Providence after moving here from Boston. Boston had great vietnamese restaurants, such as Pho Pasteur. Most of the restaurants I could find in Providence were of the pan-asian variety that didn't do anything really well. When Phonatic moved in I was skeptical but it proved to be excellent. I have been going there at least once a week. I've had the pho and the bun and both have consistently been fresh and delicious. Vietnamese food is great because it can be light, healthy and usually pretty inexpensive. It is BYOB which is a pro if you would rather spend less money by bringing your own alcohol, or a con if you prefer the convenience of buying alcohol at the restaurant. I'm so excited that Phonatic is here and I really hope they stay!
